ladlon 10 Posted September 19, 2010 I noticed that since buying the OA expansion, my squad seems to be deciding themselves not to hold fire anymore. I'll have them all set to Hold Fire, yet after a bit, I notice one or two of them now show they are set to regular (open fire) mode, and start shooting at the enemy I'm trying to have everyone hide from in stealth mode. Granted, I can understand a team member opening fire if they are face to face with the enemy... but it seems in this case they are simply ignoring my order to hold fire. Haven't tried it in regular Arma2 since the expansion. I'm playing OA with the Cipher mod/scenario... although I don't suspect that it's specific to either of those... but then again, who am I to say? Wondering if anyone else has noticed that, or might have an idea what is going on. Nothing kills a good moment of stealthy hiding like one of your squad mates standing up and shooting at a tank with his rifle! :j:
dmarkwick 261 Posted September 19, 2010 I have noticed AI squad members taking themselves off Hold Fire for rather little reason :) another problem, for me, is that an AT/AA guy, even under hold fire command, will get up from prone to target vehicles. This is usually when we're hiding or trying to remain hidden, and although I cannot prove that their changed stance was responsible for revealing our position, I'm pretty sure it must have a few times. ladlon 10 Posted September 19, 2010 Ya, I haven't had that problem since installing Operation Arrowhead. I can't imagine they changed the AI in that... I also made a post about my own squad members seemingly going a bit lethargic. On my first go at OA, I had two enemies literally standing less than 10 feet away from my group of 5-6 guys... My guys announced them, but just stood there, even while the enemies were firing on them! Two or three of my guys died right there... and it probably would have been all of them, had I not taken a rocket launcher to the car they were standing beside. Something seems very broken with OA. ladlon 10 Posted September 21, 2010 [update] Ya, they are definitely switching off their Hold Fire status on their own. I didn't have that problem at all before installing Operation Arrowhead. Might also be an issue with the 1.07 Arma2 update, or the most recent OA update, too. Hope there's a fix for it, or someone knows what is happening here. HyperU2 11 Posted September 21, 2010 (edited) I've seen this happening on ARMA2, I have no OA. In my instance I had them on hold fire, ordered them to open fire, then back to hold fire. They did hold fire through the initial command and only after I put them back on "hold" did they decide to take themselves off. santafee 10 Posted September 21, 2010 Yep AI is ignoring the hold fire command, EVEN if they are not detected. this was allready proved in some examples allready in Arma 2, so its not introduced with OA. Still hoping for a fix in some of the next betas..!
dale0404 5 Posted September 21, 2010 I noticed this last night when I was playing a mission on my server. They are definately not doing what you are ordering them to do. Definately something broken or the AI are going rogue...
whisper 0 Posted September 21, 2010 I can't repro this easily unfortunately, I've run into this one once or twice, other times my guys were fired at when they switch to fire mode on their own.
HyperU2 11 Posted September 21, 2010 I should be able to repro in on a saved game I have. I'll give it a go later.
ladlon 10 Posted September 21, 2010 Weird! I never had that happen while I only had Arma2 (luckily), but it's happening quite frequently since installing OA (...which is why I assumed it was introduced by OA). But, at the same time, I also upgraded A2 to 1.07, and OA to whatever the current version is... so it might be the result of the patches. If you guys saw it in Arma2, then I'm starting to suspect the 1.07 patch (...unless you guys saw it before then). I was a late 1.07 adopter... Seems if you want to replicate it, just put yourself in a situation were it would be REALLY BAD if some idiot were to suddenly make himself known to the world! hehehe... I swear, they did it only at the worst possible times (...helicopter flying by while we were in a field...)!
