Need help with law and rpg please

Recommended Posts

i've been playing OFP for a while now, but i still have trouble shooting the LAW and RPG. too many times i'll miss at long ranges. the only times i will definitely score a hit is when the target takes up a good chunk of the center of the screen, where you need no elevation for the effects of gravity. do you guys fire at long distances? or do you also wait till they get close? it would really help if someone could tell me what distance each tick mark on these weapons indicate. i've been searching for these values without result. is there a site that explains how to shoot the LAW/RPG effectively? perhaps with some pictures indicating how much elevation should be used when the target is a specific distance away? thanks for any help.

The law sight in Operation Flashpoint is not relistic. It's totaly diffrent in real life, it has special gun sight, you just fit the tanks body in 2 lines, one going left and one going right.I actually looked thru a real law sight,(not loaded lol, on display)

and in OFP it's not even close.

I dont have any tips on firing it in OPF, i have a hard time launching targeting tanks with it, my self.I hope BIS uses the real law sight in Resitance. smile.gif

Realistic or not, all you need is some practice. Thesedays I can usually make "extreme" range shots about 2/3 times. You just need to guesstimate how high you have to aim.

And yes, the search engine at the forums is screwed. It wont find anything more recent than around late Jan/early Feb this year. The issue has been raised a few times but no one seems to want to look into or fix it.... confused.gif

[bragging] yeah i can usually make 500m shots and occasionaly a 750m shot [/bragging] but it just takes a lot of practice. i don't really know how to describe how to do it, just after using the damn thing so long sunconciously i know how high i have to put it. really funny in MP when you snipe a BMP full of troopers trying to grab your flag smile.gif

The LAW and RPG in the game can only shoot straight for 200 meters.

The AI is set to fire at 250 meters for some reason though

At 200 meters, I can SPIT on a tank if I wanted to. So the only option is to learn how to shoot long range.

Just practice. I practise on the Battlefields mission all the time.

the search engine for forum seems a bit off. it only lists articles b4 certain date.

here's what you can do.

using mission editor goto either MAlden airport or Everon airport.

place yourself somewhere at the end of either runway

place BMP/M113 at certain distances, like 200, 300 meters and so on. in OFP, a small grid is 128meters wide and 128 meters long.

place an ammocrate(2) near your position...happy LAW/RPG-ing!

ofcourse, when you are happy woth what you can do, then move to moving targets. smile.gif

You will also want to practise on targets that are at higher/lower elevations thatn yourself. This changes the ballistics slightly.

thanks for all the advice. i'll definitely try what you suggested RalphWiggum. but does anyone know what distance each horizontal line on the LAW/RPG scope represent? is each 200m as suggested by FetishFool?

roughly that amount...real LAW sights are different...but some how BIS went with some sight from something else.

you have to practice and be able to figure out distance by experience, roughly.

and do what USsoldier11b said...

for targets more than 300 meters, i usually manage to hit it close enough, within 300 meters. tounge.gif

Mastering the LAW and RPG is an art. But when you do, it's hard not to do perfect shots at 800-1000m

In the RPG you may have noticed the graduated slots in the bottom. If you fit the body of a tank in one it corresponds to the levels on the cross hair (roughly)

each grid on the map is 128m? i created a mission for target practice and objects five grids away become impossible to see due to fogging. by my calculations, that is only about 640m, probably seeing only as far as 600m.

anyway, i'm getting the hang of it. i can hit them from what i guess is 600m, otherwise, as i said, the fog gets them. the key seems to be small adjustments in elevation. i don't even think i went to the next horizontal line.

oh, and how do you add multiple weapons/magazines to a single ammo crate? is there another way besides typing commands into the Initialization section? i've tried several combinations with errors each time. here's some combo's i've tried to give you an idea of what i'm trying to do:

ammo1 AddWeaponCargo ["LAWLauncher",20] AddMagazineCargo ["LAWLauncher",20]

ammo1 AddWeaponCargo ["LAWLauncher",20] ["RPGLauncher",20]

i've been flipping through the editting websites, but can't find this simple command. very grateful if someone types out what i'm trying to do. thanks.

in the init field of ammo crate put

this AddMagazineCargo ["LAWLauncher",20]

or

this AddMagazineCargo ["RPGLauncher",20]

the fog doesn;t just automatically start at some distance..it gradually increases...so 600meters is tough too see.. wink.gif

actually the fogging seems to pop up instantly. i walk a step, the BMP shows up. take a step back, it vanishes entirely! and i'm talking about the smallest of steps. i use binoculars to see. try it at the Malden airport. that's where i'm doing all my tests.

and RalphWiggum, those commands would only add one type of ammo to the crate. what i want to do is to have both RPG and LAW in a single crate. how do i do this? i'm guessing now that it's not done through the Init field.

it can be done through init field. don't worry.

try this

this AddMagazineCargo ["LAWLauncher",20]; this AddMagazineCargo ["RPGLauncher",20]

and may i suggest that you start learning about scripting and editing? this is one of the best aspects of OFP..powerful scripting....*drool*....

hm..odd...i used to see armors in silhouette and then their skins...

Here's what I do. Don't use the damn scope.

First use the little dot to line up the target, after that, use the scope to make whatever adjustments necessary.

That's how I do it.

And remember to use your judgement to raise your aim to compensate for gravity. You just do that by using your judjment at whatever range the target is at.
