morbidblood 10 Posted August 26, 2010 Good morning all, I wish to ask for either some advice to help me finish these conversions or a favour. Probably the latter as this has been puzzling me for a while now. Long story short, I converted quite a few half life 2 models (mdl's) over to .p3d's, scaled them down to normal height approx. Over the last few days Ive been adding named selections to them, eg. lruka, hlava etc. Most of the pieces turn out fine or a bit iffy but others wrap, on quite a horrific scale. Ive tried a few changes here and there but to no avail. If someone from one of the modding teams could look at them and tell me what im doing wrong or fix them up properly, feel free to drop me a line. Cheers Si P.s if this is in the wrong part of the forum feel free to move it, cheers.
Macser_old 0 Posted August 26, 2010 (edited) I'll assume you mean "warp" not "wrap". If you intend on using the default animations, you're stuck with the pose you get for the default BIS units. This is the "T-pose" for the models.Though it's one of the oddest t-poses I've ever seen. So try to match up your selections with that of a BIS unit,as closely as possible.Particulary the placement of joints.I think most people would use the BIS resistance civilian man,as a reference. Unless you want to try your hand at animating,it's the only way to avoid anger and frustration. :) Edited August 26, 2010 by Macser
morbidblood 10 Posted August 26, 2010 (edited) Cheers for the swift reply Macser, Ive been a bit of a noob im afraid, when I originally put in the selections and gave it a few shots, the models were within one of my other addon folders/pbo's, I moved the models to a seperate folder and copied the config, then dulled it down to only have these two models/units, however, forgot to change the model path in the cfg, thus using the old ones, no wounder what I tried didnt seem to work :D. I did mean warp, as is, a hand or forearm being crushed flat in mid air :). I changed some of the selections now so its just the hands, I am guessing this is because I havnt rotated them to the correct BiS positions just yet (ofp has backward pointing hands unlike the hl2 ones which are pointing inwards), will give it a shot in a min. To answer one of your other questions is that im currently using Sancs ww4 mod, I havnt opened up sancs ww4 properly to see if the stand pose is the same, probably isnt the same as the BiS ones. There are still some bits and pieces that are a bit off but are in the margin for error at the moment. Anyhow, hopefully the CP model will be ready today finally and I can work on the selections for the rest of them, debating at the moment on how to animate the Strider, I think that animating that is way out of my league :). Macser_old 0 Posted August 26, 2010 No problem. Sanc's WW4 models do indeed use the standard BIS pose.So no problems there. You only need to worry if you change the pose.Which you can do.And some people have. But it would mean readjusting most or all of the animations to suit it. Sometimes you can get problems with selections when you're not watching what you're doing. Some verts from one could be getting included in another. Which will cause a bit of swearing, when you get the model ingame. And yes.Unfortunately you'll have to match position and orientation of every selection. You can have a very small amount of deviation, but no more. Unless,as I said before, you want to start animating.Which I wouldn't recommend to anyone.Unless you have a shedload of patience.Much like Sanc. :)
morbidblood 10 Posted August 26, 2010 Unfortunitly most of my old work has been with space ships, buildings and interiors for both, so not to up on the converting stuff and starting from scratch with a human model let along creating new animations, but its all new, and when stuff does work it is very rewarding :). I know there was an old thread about someone else converting hl2 models ages ago, however I never saw anyone releasing a mod as such, if you guys are interested I could probably make a small pack once its all finished. Si ---------- Post added at 09:00 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:34 AM ---------- Just gave rotating the hands a go, didnt work so seperated them from the main body and still nope, it really doesnt like those hands or wrists. Odd. Si
