Acid81 0 Posted July 23, 2010 Im trying to mod the M24 rifle to use a zoom range on the scope. First before i explain what happened, could one use Eliteness to mod OA ? PBO View could not recognize a OA pbo file so i used Elitenees instead. I extracted the weapons pbo, made the changes i wanted, packed a pbo keeping the directory structure to the files i edited, placed it in ArmA 2 Operation Arrowhead\TestMyMod\AddOns, added the shortcut command line, launched the game and got this dialog

If you have, you may have mistakenly deleted something you shouldn't have. Best way to add and modify weapons is to have a folder called @TestMyMod, and then add the modified BBO in an addons folder in this folder, once you start OA, click on EXPANSIONS and your @TestMyMod should be selected and then be able to see your work!!. Hope this helps. :D
Acid81 0 Posted July 24, 2010 Yea, i was editing the (official) weapons.pbo. I packed the files wrong. I had packed the wrong directory structure, therefor the game couldnt find the files to read from them.
Big Dawg KS 5 Posted July 24, 2010 Yea, i was editing the (official) weapons.pbo. You should definately avoid this, especially if you ever plan on connecting to a server in MP. Also, it's a lot easier, more convenient, and more practical just to create a new addon that overrides the BIS stuff.

Any pbo that you made changes to, the game still needs any and all other content that was originally in that particular pbo that the changes were made to. You cant seem to just put the file/files you edited in a pbo and use as your mod, it wont work, so the way i see it whats the point ?
Evil_Echo 11 Posted July 25, 2010 You can patch the original config via a new mod. You never should touch the original files. That's how all the mods for sounds and weapons work.

You can create a new config that overrides the BIS classnames (essentially patching, like Evil Echo said). This is the only proper way to edit BIS stuff. Modifying their core data files is just bad any way you look at it.
