[OA] Game causes video driver to stop responding and restart

Recommended Posts

There have been a couple other threads about this issue but I thought I would start a new one and see if anyone has any new ideas.

The situation is that with Operation Arrowhead (not ArmA2 as far as I can tell), whether it be 1.52 or the beta(s), I get an issue where after an indeterminate amount of time (usually less than 30 minutes) of gameplay, the screen will go black, and the display will lose signal from the video card. Hitting Alt-Enter followed by Ctrl-Alt-Del will recover the video, but something about this driver death resets my SLI configuration and I have to reboot the computer before the game will run properly again.

I have tried the following driver sets with a full clean/wipe/install procedure each time:

-197.45 WHQL

-257.21 WHQL

-258.69 BETA

-258.96 BETA & WHQL

All of them exhibit the same issues. Oddly, the 197.45 drivers will simply go black and then immediately return to the desktop, but the game becomes minimized and I can't recover. Also, it causes the same issue with SLI which requires me to reboot.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has gotten this issue, and what we can do to help fix it. I am convinced at this point it is an OA issue and not a driver issue based on the fact that *no* other game or 3d-application will cause the driver to crash, even after several hours of continuous gameplay. Only after installing and playing OA did I start having this issue.

I would like to conglomerate all of the information about this problem into one thread. This is a serious issue for me, personally, and perhaps others, since I basically can't reliably play the game for more than 20 minutes or so without an inevitable crash.

Update: I just tried setting Post Processing at Low instead of Normal that I had it on in OA, and managed to play through a few missions with no driver issues. Still using the 197.45 drivers, but I will upgrade to the newest soon and test on those. Anyone else have any similar issues with PP above Low?

Well, as it turns out, using the latest WHQL drivers and PP at Low, the problem still occurs after about 20 minutes of gameplay. I have monitored my GPU temps and they are at or below 80C the entire time, and most of the time the GPU load is between 50-80%. I am going to try rolling back to 197.45 again to see if the problem persists.
