ABOUT The Special Boat Service is the special forces unit of the naval service of the United Kingdom. We are an ARMA 3 mil-sim group that emulates the operations that the unit is involved in and we focus on playing the game in the most realistic way possible. We have recently re-vamped our recruitment and training program to better immerse new members in the UK Special Forces selection and training experience. The course itself is modular in design and designed to teach our SOPs in a challenging, yet fun, manner. Although we call our training course 'Selection', in keeping with the realistic approach to our group, we do not reject/kick out those who struggle during Selection. We merely offer optional extra training. Our group replicates, as much as game and mod limitations allow, the TTPs and operational tempo of 6 Troop, M Squadron of the Special Boat Service, which in real life is a part of the UK Special Forces Group. For the Americans in the community think of the SBS as a British DEVGRU and you're close. We carry out operations in a variety of environments, from maritime to land-based operations utilising a variety of insertion methods, from HALO/HAHO to aquatic and other methods, and we have a number of former and serving UK Armed Forces members in the group, as well as veterans from other countries. Although we have rank structure our approach is laid back and relaxed. Within reason. We do not address each other by rank and everyone is encouraged to share their opinion, however when the patrol commander/IC makes their decision then the discussion is over. We are also involved in joint operations with Batavian Tactical which sees British and Dutch Special Forces forming Task Force 33, a joint task force involved in operations across the globe. RECRUITMENT Recruitment is open. We are seeking motivated and active people to join the group and we numerous roles for members to take up. We are also seeking a small number of pilots. Pilots will not be required to undertake Selection, however they will be trained in minor patrol skills, contact drills and escape and evasion for if they are ever shot down on an operation. Our only rule for the flight section at this time is that pilot applicants have good experience at flying in ArmA 3. 40 Commando is a co-op military simulation squad modelled on the Royal Marine Commandos. We closely emulate contemporary tactics, techniques and procedures but we also understand the difference between working in the real army and having fun playing a computer game. Our operations are planned and conducted in a series of month long campaign deployments. Each mission typically takes 2 to 3 hours during which we tackle a wide variety of tasks depending on the current operational objectives. Our standard TTPs cover everything a light infantry troop might be expected to do on operations, including section and platoon attacks, ambushes, counter-insurgency, litoral assaults, airborne ops, route clearance or close target reconnaissance. Campaigns are generally persistent, with the outcome of each mission affecting the overall success of the deployment. We have a progressive training schedule which will teach all recruits everything they need to know to operate effectively as a rifleman.
