  1. I just ordered a GA-AB350-Gaming 3 + G.Skill Flare-X 16GB kit, DDR4-3200, CL14-14-14-34 We'll know by the weekend how Ryzen performs with high end RAM in ArmA3. I'll keep you posted.
  2. Did you play with HPET and Energy Profile yet?
  3. By about 5 seconds ;-)
  4. In all these Benches its also important to have a closer look at how Windows was configured. There are huge discrepancies in some games having HPET on/off and Windows set to High Performance instead of balanced: (From German Page (Höchstleistung = High Performance; aus = off; High Performance was done under Win10). The problem is apparently coming from CoreParking that is yet not done correctly under Win 10.
  5. Don't get me wrong guys, I think that Ryzens performance in general application and games including ArmA3 along with an outstanding pricetag makes Ryzen a very attractive piece of Hardware for all of us. I only said that if you are on a budget and all you want is a box that plays ARMA3 the best you can get for a minimum investment, there is no way around the HT enabled Pentium. --> here is mine waiting for an mITX Board ;-)
  6. So bottom line: Ryzen is a very good allrounder that performs better than any previous AMD µArch incarnation of AMD in ARMA3 but one should have fast RAM clocks. If you only play ARMA3, and do not really do anything else with it, get the Pentium G4560 and clock it as hell. Slightly bizzare that the best solution for one of the most CPU intensive games around is a CPU for about $65. Not quite the behavior of a modern Game Engine but I am sure BIS will do what they can to optimize towards all architectures to give their costumers the best possible experience. P.S.:Well, frametimes would be a good thing to see before coming to these conclusions.
  7. I have read on several occasions that the Windows scheduler currently does not work very well with Ryzens CCX design if the software is not threaded well (like many games and in particular ARMA3). It helps in these cases if SMT and HPET are disabled in the BIOS. AMD plans to release a driver that takes care of these issues in the near future and is in contact with Game studios regarding this. So if one of you benches, it might be most interesting if you also test with disabled HT - 8 cores are by far enough for ARMA3 anyway. With fully threaded applications, HT performs exceptionally well in Ryzen (actually better than it does in current intel cpus) You can see that Crysis 3 (threaded) does very well with Ryzen and HT enabled while FarCry4 (not threaded) falls 20% short if HT is enabled. Similar things have been seen for HT in Intel CPUs.

    AMD Mantle Support possible?

Thanks Dwarden for commenting on this topic! Its good to see you guys are taking the community seriously.... I haven't been aware of this situation either but of course AMD calls it BETA right now, so it makes kind of sense and might change soon. Regarding the GCN availability, I don't think that is a true reason. You can't play ARMA3 on much below that level anyway and as said before, upgrading to GCN would not be a prob for most people. upgrading to GCN/Nvidia 7 + Hasswell + Board + RAM + ... is what holds people back. Thanks again! Ned

    AMD Mantle Support possible?

Battlefield simulation is the bottleneck and this is why Mantle won't help right? Lets see the facts: http://www.computerbase.de/artikel/grafikkarten/2014/erste-eindruecke-zu-amds-mantle/3/ BF4, Singleplayer on AMD 7850K APU (Mid Range CPU Low end Graphics) Mantle 33,9 FPS DirectX 33,5 FPS No advantage from Mantle....purely GPU limited.... So let's add a Battlefield simulation and go Multiplayer Mantle 34,6 FPS DirectX 25,8 FPS makes 34% advantage... and this is not with a dedicated high end GPU where the difference would be even way higher. I really don't understand why someone would oppose Mantle in ArmA3. Its the easiest and cheapest way to increase performance in ArmA3 without reducing complexity Its even coded in the same language... DirectX and Mantle use the same High Level Shading Language (HLSL).

    AMD Mantle Support possible?

I don't think this is a reasonable answer. I see his point BUT ... They have a product they want to sell. The buyers however will have to have a hardware infrastructure to run their product which is, according to steam statistics, probably in the hand of the upper 10% of all steam users. If I look around, a lot of friends would go and buy a used Radeon 7850 to play ARMA3 but they are also sitting on Phenom II X2,X3 and Core2duo and max Q6600 systems. So upgrading the graphic card won't change it. They just don't buy ArmA3 because it sucks on those systems. If a Mantle support would be available, the Framerate of ArmA3 on these systems would probably increase by 30-50% which makes it playable. Instead of $59 for Arma + $100 for a used 7850 (the latter pays of in other games too) they need to invest about $500 to play Arma without Mantle support and this just is to much for a Game as even any hardcore ArmA Fan like me knows. So spend 3 devs, 2 months on Mantle (Pricetag: X) Make money and share by getting new costumers. (Priceless) I think this is a very reasonable decision.... Ned

    AMD Mantle Support possible?

We all know that ArmA3 runs a very complex engine and of course nobody would ever expect it to behave like a tunnel engine you experience in COD or similar games. Of course the engine is much more demanding on the CPU in this aspect and ever since I played Operation Flashpoint I never expected it to run as smooth as the mentioned games. In fact I think it is very challenging for you (BIS) guys to improve performance without taking complexity out of the game. That said, Mantle offers the unique chance to reduce CPU demand from the rendering engine which in turn is available for the rest of the game and Mantle is probably much easier to implement then any other "optimization" would ever be.# The payoff? half my friends do not buy ArmA3 for a single reason. They would have to upgrade their Hardware so badly (CPU, Board, RAM, GPU) that its just too expensive. Pluging in a newer Graphics Card is not the problem as this pays of in other games too. So... in my humble opinion ... Go BIS, it will make your customers more happy AND give you new ones! Best, Ned P.S.: Everybody who shares my opinion should help make this thread longer and more recognizeable...
