    Tweak the graphics presets!

I can no longer play any large scale MP games...was able to in in early beta/alpha on ultra with server view distance... but recently tried a few on Stratis and Altis and find my frames unplayable 15-30fps and stutters like crazy...I know the 8350 doesn't have the best single core performance but it should be able to handle this as I have it clocked at 4.6... there isn't a single other game that even comes close to bottle necking the main core like ARMA.... Thankfully small optimized missions and SP scenerio's such as Whole Lot of Altis run great on ultra view distance 2 3,000.... but I'm Trying to figure out why they would make a map thats unplayable to 99% of consumers when fully utilized. It has much more to do than the view distance as well, It has to do with the overly retentive physics and the ridiculously over-scripted A.I....I can run this game on ultra in the editor @40+ frames. Oh and some CTI missions work well....Still stutters like crazy though... ----------------------- Just overly ambitious for the engine/current hardware is all.(mostly engine though) And one has to admit having this game not be fully threaded isn't future proofing in it's own right. Bi says it's the servers/optimized game modes but they really should be putting out servers and making large scale game modes to at least show people how it's done. but it is Arma and all arma games have started out like crap and seem to have picked themselves up....It's just a game that's always being worked on.... Saying this game is even remotely optimized or holds it's self to current standards as far as core programming goes is just unreasonable.....

    Altis - Info & Discussion

time for an SSD....already ordered it.. Will take care of those hiccups while flying.... Though I'm still having problems running some MP game modes such as Domination(same as Stratis). Just can't break that 30 FPS barrier with the lowest settings....getting 50-100+ in the editor and getting 30+ ultra for most SP scenerios that people whipped up in the editor... I really hope they figure something out for this.

    Altis - Info & Discussion

Seems to be running better than expected :) getting 45-55 FPS flying over the largest city on the map with everything max cept object and terrain at high and view distance at 3000/1738.... 8350@4.6-7870 XT(tahiti LE) 8 Gigs 1600mhz

Putting Stratis into perspective on size.

Just wait, I guess...stick with my 8350 till something can tank this game with full view D...nothing on the markets gunna give me the desired frames for full distance right now..

Putting Stratis into perspective on size.

Looks nuts...can't wait... To bad there ain't a single build out there that can run this smoothly at 12000 view Distance. I would by it.
  6. From my research i'll give a bit of clarity... An I5 4670k is about the same as a 4770K...from what i read it sounds as though the I7's O.C. a bit better but overall they arn't worth the extra money as the differences are within 2-3 frames. As for CPU bottleneck...that depends on the game. Planetside 2, Arma, Shogun 2 are always gunna bottleneck CPU's. A 760 is just fine at 1080p because your probably gunna loose frames from the CPU anyway. Games like Crysis 3, Tomb Raider, Max Payne, Metro Last Light are not that CPU intensive and the addition of Sli'd/crossfire setups help, as the GPU is the bottlenecked from the visuals as oppose to the prossessing of the A.I. that Arma uses. So it depends on what you play really. Even a Phenom X4 isn't gunna bottleneck a sli 780's assuming if the game your playing isn't CPU intensive. But people recommend an I5, at least, as games that are more graphically intensive seem to require more processing power anyway.
  7. I would just roll with a 4670K and O.C. the hell outta it. Not gunna get much more performance from adding the hyper-threading(only real difference between the two) for an extra 100 bucks. I'll just agree to disagree...it's not the 4770k that will bottleneck a 780...it's mainly the game. The game can only go as fast as where the bottleneck is...and in almost all systems with a decent GPU, in arma, it's slowed by the CPU. It would help to a certain extent, but the CPU dictates how quickly your gunna run this game. IMO good setups for the money for arma- 4670k o.c'ed+good aftermarket cooler+760 for 1080p 4670k o.c'ed+good aftermarket cooler+780 for over 1440p A 780 for any resolutions higher than that(threemonitor,1600p).
  8. It does in some situations, but I've read countless posts and played with people with sli 780's/680's and 4770k's with O.C.'s still dipping down to the 30's with the 3800 recommended SP view distance. A 780 is a beast, but any CPU is gunna bottleneck it in this game. It may bring up the max frames but your not gunna hit 60 FPS solid with a 6000 View distance...It's just not gunna happen. I believe certain benchmarks he may get those frames but not when the engine is under stress.
  9. I personally don't believe either of them. Although the 4770k is more expensive doesn't mean that it's gunna run the game better than a 4670K. It adds hyperthreading to the original 4 cores of a 4670k which arma doesn't use. 6000-12000 view distance/objects is just not gunna happen at 50-60 FPS on any rig.
  10. Your only really rendering what your view distance settings is set to...The map size doesn't matter as much as how many objects are in it.
  11. Just a suggestion and actually made an account to get this idea out. But what if they implemented a hot key to adjust view distance settings. I get good frames on ultra settings(3800/3200) just about anywhere except when Agia's filled with A.I. Play a lot of Sp missions and enjoy what some creators put out there but having to jump into the menu system every time I go in and out of that town is obtrusive to say the least. I know it's a bit of a duck tape solution to a problem that severely needs to be addressed, but a hot-button to lower view distance would be great. As soon as frames dip below 30 press the hot-button and get a boost and once frames go back up tap it again and get the visuals back. Unless there allready is one...Arma never fails to surprise me in the department. Should be an easy enough feature to add.
  12. 8350@4.6 ghz 8 Gigs 1600 mhz 7870 XT (tahiti le) Runs great...been a lot of flack on AMD not running this game well but I'm running on ultra @ 35+ with server view settings.
