  1. Thanks Tom, okay thought it might be a more complicated issue on my side. It's probably my firewalls etc. slowing it down then. I'll give it a test. Keep up the awesome work man.

edit: Just thought about this again quick. Could be my connection, checked firewall and its allowed through. My local connection to the rest of civilisation is at 400ms by the time it reaches the UK. Got to love internet connections in Africa.

  2. Hi,

I'm just having a look at your handy communityUpdater application. Just a quick question, I'm experiencing an "operation timed out" popup titled "Microsoft .NET framework. Below is the exception text.

I have the latest .net framework but could I be missing something else? Thanks for any assistance!

  3. Thank you tom_48_97, works now!

  4. Hi all,

I've been having no luck with getting my external viewer option to work from within the object builder.

    For example:

I'm in Object Builder, I load up a sample file, say Test_Car_01 and then click on View>Viewers>Buldozer>Start and it comes up with "External Viewer attach failed" it then just loads straight into ARMA 3 game.

Is there something I'm missing here? In the ObjectBuilder options I have written in the External config settings:

    P:\buldozer.exe -noland -window

    DLL folder has p:\

    and Path for textures P:\

I've read through the other threads regarding external viewer issues and haven't spotted a related issue so if I missed something, sorry but can't find anything.

Thank you a head for any assistance!

    B

PS I did manage to get it to work a month ago but then had a harddrive format and had to reinstall everything and things just aren't working as smooth as they used too.

  5. Hey there Edge, many thanks for this great reply. Yes, we are really trying to make sure all i's are dotted and t's crossed here. Not wanting copyright issues and so where possible we either trying to create everything (VO, sounds) and use assets already in the game so there's less work and worry to do in that area and more time to focus on creativity (and other work work that I should be doing haha).

On the music, noted on that. Okay, so just to clarify, if we DON'T edit the ARMA 3 music, we can use it in a trailer for the contest entry? This correct? We just have to credit it appropriately in the video who made it? This leads to the next question though...

Regarding the word 'editing' - when you say refrain from editing but okay to use in promo, with a trailer sometimes lasting between 10 seconds and a minute. If we have a 20second clip we made, would we be able to use the music for those 20 seconds, starting at a predetermined timeframe in the music track and cut the music at the end of 20seconds or if the track is 1min30sec, would we have to make a clip to last the full length of the track?

As ARMA 3 music isn't in the licensed data pack, is there a license we require (like a mechanical license, as that would be the one we would require if not owned by BI)?

Without a Mechanical License, might be safer then to just use the ARMA3 music within the game (like normal and unedited) and then for any promo we just purchase music with the right license ie. commercial use etc.

Thanks re:textures. We might, might not... really time wise as time is tight. ARMA 3 standard has some great material to use in it though so will decide when we get to that bridge, but at least now we know we can if we want to.

Oh, almost left out this reply... re APL license etc, thanks for clarifying the use of only one is allowed... will look over our the graphic chart and decide which one again :)

Thanks Edge, hear from you soon.

  6. Hi Edge, I have another question too, ok a few.

    Singleplayer mode related questions:

Are we allowed to edit the BI ARMA 3 music? For example cut/shorten/repeat for a trailer? Is this allowed? Also which would it fall under? APL or APL-SA? Also voiceovers, if they our own voiceovers, are they then APL or APL-SA? Do we make use of both APL and APL-SA licenses when listing copyrights or must we only choose one license?

Also if we develop our own textures for characters clothing, is this allowed in Singleplayer mode or is that considered a mod?

Just to verify again, we wanting to keep any issues of copyright to a minimum, okay let me reword that, we not wanting any copyright issues so everything is pretty much "in-house" or straight ARMA 3 data. However as we will have custom voiceovers for the storyline (owned and developed by us) this would have us release under APL or APL_SA?

Many thanks for any assistance with the questions :)

    Kind regards

    Brad

  7. A course on Systems Engineering with NASA officials has started on a MOOC site called Saylor. (Free)

It teaches you the background and process of Systems Engineering with a side running Mars mission that you have to plan for.

It is however a little late to start for the certificate but the course they say will always be available to do and I guess will be possible to take part again in the future when they run the course again for the certificate.

I think it's a great course to complement the simulator as then you have knowledge of how a mission is put together and then seeing it put into action with Take On Mars.

    Here's the link: http://www.saylor.org/courses/sse101/

This mixed with an understanding of Mars and the Mars simulator is an awesome way to enhance your time in the sim I think!

    Have fun!

  8. Hi Dram, great additions! Just a quick question though, is everyone on the official release/updates? I'm still on the development updates but it keeps crashing upon loading the missions. Must I go to the normal/non-development update option so I can play? Haven't been able to play in weeks. Thanks, looking forward to a way forward so I can continue.

  9. Okay, further pinned it down. It happens when the program tries to go fullscreen. Also if it starts in windowed mode, if I trying alt-enter it to make it fullscreen, crashes. I'm on beta development option in steam. Hope this helps.

Okay found this now, seems its a reported issue with version 0.8.0262 http://mars.takeonthegame.com/feedback/print_bug_page.php?bug_id=408

  10. Hi guys, I'm having trouble running my TKOM. On starting all is good until I try click on anything in the menu and it crashes. Upon clicking on space program, it goes to loading screen then crashes.

Comes up with a crash info box:

    Program: ...Library\steamapps\common\Take On Mars\TKOM.exe

Reason: Access Violation with a load of other text.

Then Windows joins in and in the APPCRASH mention it has a fault module name: enforce3_ltcg.dll

Any ideas? I have an i5, Windows 7 64bit 4 gigs RAM laptop with an Nvidia GeForce GT335M

    Thanks guys.

    Kind regards

    Brad

  11. yes, we have to pay everytime dev wants to bump the price, if you wont u wll have the game unable to play

srlysy man, u bought this game, use your brain

and how about games where price drops over time? they give you money back?

"Early Access is a full purchase of a playable game. By purchasing, you gain immediate access to download and play the game in its current form and as it evolves up and through 'release'."

I'll ignore that rant but thanks for the last constructive bit.

Next time just answer a question without being a rude kiddie.
