    Shotguns in ArmA 3?

Elena - I don't know what information source you have, where you are getting that crap, but it is just that. Shotguns, Sub-guns have fallen off like a leprosy ridden appendage. I also don't know who you are claiming to be, but I can't think of a European entity that mass issues either the MP5, or shotgun except to law enforcement. Add to that the abysmal performance of both platforms in comparison to any assault rifle, and you can make those really short even if they loose some effectiveness, they are on teh way out. Add to that the epic failure of the PDW and it's round on and off the field. Now lets look at the "special forces" family of combatants. They never will replace infantry, nor are they capable of doing nearly what you imply. Being amazingly effective and skilled is great but good special forces represent less then 1% of all combat arms in most nations. With that said there mission is highly dependent on the fact the SF come in do something that allows a opening for Armored, and infantry assets to move in and secure. I don't care how good 1 navy seal is, left alone, with only a weapon it would be hard pressed for him to kill 100 soldiers who are aware. I wouldn't even debate this with you since you have no reasonable understanding of the topic, but after getting a SF medic trying to join our unit (Caught him in a lie pretty fast) I think the reality of the shotgun desire, and your comments should be talked about. Research submachinegun DocGKR, and look at shotgun paterns at distance you will see shot pattern from a standard military barrel that allows buck and slugs reduces its potency pretty fast down to 32 acp at some close distances. Mind you they are still deadly and extremely nice at contact ranges, but Most very old designed plates can resist even slug rounds with no problems, much less buck shot. I am sorry for derailing this, and I do expect shotguns but the need for them is limited to almost nothing, right next to unsuported SF with no infantry to hold territory, or advance and use the advantage given by SF.

    Shotguns in ArmA 3?

No shotguns by default, and honestly i have yet to see many people who are in the military complaining about missing shotguns, as they aren't a very useful tool. They have limited applications especially in the terrain settings in game. While I know many people are all hurt about them missing frankly, the addons seem to be pretty good (great job on them), and honestly I would rather see bohemia take the 3GL and put some breaching style rounds in that.... except we can't breach doors yet. Shoothouses mod will though and I expect the mods to get to that first before this. Frankly the aircraft complaints, and just about every other thing would be a priority over a weapon platform that is basically not even in play with the military at this point, and is about freaking useless against armored personel compared to a rifle round. I know some of you will want it but honestly I highly recommend the mods in this case they did a good job and deserve it if you really gotta have a shotgun.

Some comments on the new pistols

The 45 shouldn't even be 1.5 ballistics experts all over the place say the same stuff. 9-45 = same temporary wound cavity, and same penetration using similar ammo (FMJ or JHP) being that it is "military" then FMJ is the only round technically allowed for our purposes and for ease of discussion. With that said anyone looking at DocGKR's work that has been published and re-posted a billion times makes the point that it doesn't matter what caliber you get. As for the magazine capacities this might be do to copy-write issues and being just different not to be attacked by such companies. 9mm FMJ 45 ACP FMJ It is a game accuracy can't be perfect I guess.

PUNCH OUT! Maybe somewhere down the line.

I am not sure if this aircraft has a ejection seat or not. Hell it might not have one so yeah. As for parachutes.... I never flew a plane with a parachute on, but I did civilian flying. If you are going into combat you should check your gear like you would in real life. I know it's a game it could do it for you, but I call that as being part of realism. Also that isn't a attack on the original poster. I get where he is coming from and yeah the ejection seat, should be in the buzzard, but who knows. The ejection seat makes sense, but maybe it has that downward facing ejection seat.

A Large Fixed Wing transport aircraft for Arma 3

I doubt you will see this, and I'll forget to check it, but whoever told you the C-17 take of distance is less then the C-130J is smoking, injesting something. I have spend 6+ years of life in logistics and worked around C-130H, J, Talons series, the spartans, and not to mention C-17s etc. I haven't flown them but observation of them most of my adult life proves otherwise, and add to that the specs..... C-130 J - Takeoff distance: 3,127 ft (953 m) at 155,000 lb (70,300 kg) gross weight C-17 - Takeoff run at MTOW: 7,600 ft (2,316 m) A-400M - Tactical takeoff distance: 980 m (3,215 ft) (aircraft weight 100 tonnes, soft field, ISA, sea level) Not to mention no one is sending in the C-17 into any place not very secure. The aircraft isn't as rugged and field friendly to fix. I have unloaded enough of those engines and watched the mechanics work on them enough to tell you that. I can't say much for the A-400M. Being between the C-130 and C-17 in size I don't see much value other then a "bigger" C-130 (which granted has its benefits). However your assumption either are better seems kinda false (especially in the C-17 case) and with the cost of the C-17 and 400 I don't see them being a big thing. Also I unless the USAF picks up the A-400M I doubt it will have much impact in NATO other then being in NATO countries fleets. From a purely carry capacity to FOB locations with non-improved runways I just don't see your argument being valid even 1- years from now with the aircraft discussed.

    C-5 Galaxy work

While the C-5 isn't jumped out of often it is still jumped out of, and very capable of doing so. Honestly if it weren't for the poor capability of setting it would be a rather nice aircraft to jump out. Hell some center-line seat pallets that were made for the task, or duel rail setup would make airborne happy. Airdrops unless your talking about a tank are more commonly seen in the C-17 or C-130. While I can't wait for the C-5 I hope they do the C-17 along with your project being its a more versatile aircraft for drops.

    Ballistic computer in A3 bugged?

Most people ignore the incoming mortar warning, if you get it and run a very short distance your are fine.
  11. I am a complete newbie to this stuff, and I have literally searched for days trying to find what I want, and how I want to do it. Ultimately I think making a bunch of groups on a map and having them follow a path one after another will work for me, but any advice would be helpful. Ok the idea. Have a wave of civilians head towards a base at X time, then a wave of opfor at Y time, and then maybe a few more waves of opfor of different varieties. This isn't hard I assume because people have done it, but I am having a issue figuring out how its done. Watched about 5 hours of videos and nothing quite makes sense or because of my lack of programing knowledge, and building knowledge I am missing something. Can someone point me to a video, or something to guide me into this basic simple design?

waves of civilians and enemies newbie help

I have read some scripts that have a time stop but it also involved units having other conditions. I just want groups to wait to move out for a select time is that possible? I am sure this isn't hard, I just don't know what search to do, or maybe I am not searching the right stuff at all.

    Podagorsk problem

Ok I guess this is a good thread to ask. Is it possible to... port in Arma 2 maps to arma 3 and then share the game-play on say a server? Does everyone else need AiA and the previous games, or can you get around that at all? Sorry I am sure this is a dumb question but I have searched for nearly a week and I just can't find basic I don't mod anything answer.

Running animation with pistol still strange/ugly

I don't know who taught you how to shoot with a pistol, but..... There about 5 billion opinions on moving with a firearm, and none of them perfect. When I was trained two hands on the pistol in the air meant if you fell you wouldn't shoot yourself, someone else, or land on your pistol as easily. Granted its a bit akward to run with two hands and not very economical for running sake, but who says your style is smarter then others? Nit picking that seems pointless and trust me running any way with a pistol isn't a good idea. Sometimes it has to happen.

A Large Fixed Wing transport aircraft for Arma 3

I would like to see a jump capable aircraft honestly. The closest is the Osprey (which has smaller cargo area the the Chinook) and as pointed out can't carry crap. Great bird, just limited in some ways. Honestly I'd like to see a C-17, but the reality is the c-130J model will be in service at least that long, and is more suited to the small runways on the map.

Do we have any info on this I have seen photos for it, but nothing solid yet.
  22. Welcome to the informal primer on rotary aircraft and effectively jumping. While we wait for jump capable aircraft, and other such add-ons (some are already out but not to my liking) to allow a realistic air drop of personnel we figured we would give the community some information. Without further adue the information and photos the 25th ID at 25thid.us has provided for your consumption ad comment. First and for-most this isn't a complete comprehensive guide. I won't be going into the mil-sim information on how to do a proper jump although we did practice it with PFC. Kirby (a Cav scout with the US army and a big contributor to this). The reality is this information should help you choose how to jump, and safe helicopters to do such a mission. First let me start by stating not all rotary wing aircraft were tested the little bird wasn't tested, but I will attempt to do that this evening. For now lets review safety cautions. Jumping at the same time Select helicopters moving at speed Low altitude Collisions while in free fall First things first while jumping out of some helicopters will allow you to alternately release from one side or the other we noted collisions occurring regardless. This is why we will make recommendations later due to the casualty rate of a mass simultaneous jump. While Arma 3 will let you deploy and survive a opening at 50 meters above the ground it is very risky. Be prepared to smack the deck if you are jumping under a 100 meters without practice. I will go into detail later. Step 1 Assemble Step 2 Make sure everyone has a parachute (buddy check) people can be dumb and be out with a pack Step 3 Stand in a line and designate numbers to each jumper Step 4 Move to aircraft and board Step 5 Pilot gains altitude and position (this may include being in a drop zone) Step 6 Pilot signals to jump Step 7 Jump says "One Out" and then jumps Step 8 Last in stack says "# Out last man" and jumps Step 9 Parachutes are deployed after clearing helicopter and before being a pancake. Step 10 Jumpers Flare reducing speed to under 10km before touching the ground Step 11 Jumper notifies superiors are on the deck ACRE: Note talking to each other in free fall with ACRE doesn't seem to work, but radios do! The reason behind the numbers and jumping interval style is to prevent collisions and give people the three dimensional space to maneuver. Speeds during free fall get high and if you clip a parachute or jumper expect certain death. Unfortuantly you aren't watching people dive out of the back of a C-130 and this makes things a little more cumbersome. With practice however you guys can jump safely and quickly. Note that 300 meter jumps seem to be fairly easy for beginners and allow a short free-fall. For first time jumps I recommend a 500 meter release personally, build your SOPs as needed. Note that you can jump with night-vision and when landing not have a new pair of digital eyeballs (anyone who has jumped in the military will know what this is a scary thing) That covers basically everything you need to know about jumping from a stationary aircraft. Warning While traveling laterally jumpers will be struck by the synchronized elevators. This is known issue in real aircraft (fixed wing as well) and why you see certain aircraft are used for jumping and others aren't. So far with the 3 tested helicopters the GhostHawk and Orca are dangerous, but the mohawk is fine. I will assume the little bird(whatever you call it) is as well, but we will test it and see. Note the position of the stabilizers in the images below. http://imageshack.us/a/img34/360/pzuv.png (402 kB) http://imageshack.us/a/img268/7388/48oy.png (510 kB) Mohawk has a higher stabilizer and is safe to jump from. I'll update more in a day or two and probably edit this post.
  23. I would love to see a jump system where a parachute can be added to your gear, and you can jump with a backpack slung under your legs. Maybe make it so you can only walk slow (waddle) and possibly not shoot your gun without yanking the parachute off your gear. This isn't a priority but it would be nice and I assume sooner or later we will see the C-130J models or hell the talons out and in use, if the ospry doesn't get ported/added in. Those alone should cover 2035 spectrum of use. Anyways I hope the community addon guys might be able to do it, or bohemia although with all the crying on the forums for less important issues like who gets what gun anything might take a while. All in all the helicopters relatively work, just not as well as I would hope, and this little addons / idea would give people more variables to getting around on the map with a team.

25thid.us - Jumping from rotary aircarft and you

Ok so we have been jumping for a few days now and can add a bit of information now. I will also point out something about jumps. Unless gear is dropped in or other troops bring gear, you will not have a backpack to carry equipment usually required for medics etc. Recommended first time jump altitude 500 meters, at no greater then 80kph in level flight. Min safe effective drop height seems to be around 100 meters (possibly as low as 75-50 with much practice) at no more then 160-180kph with a open terrain drop. Warning about flight attitude : Do not have any yaw pitch or roll not congruent with flight path. If you are flying over runway then don't have the helicopter rolling, changing speed or turning during the jump Confirmed safe jump-able helicopters while in forward motion CH-49 Mohawk MH-9 Hummingbird Every other helicopter should only be jumped at very slow relative speeds, and if possible at a fixed location. This will allow a glide into a combat zone. Ok lets go over some basic jump information Pre-Jump checklist -Jump location, and safe jump area Make sure that you decide a safe area to jump, how long the window will be open for either time, or distance on the map -Altitude & Direction of travel during jump -Number of jumpers -Abort word -All jump reasons (this should be standard SOP if you jump a lot) -Chalk designation for fire-teams, or multiple jump locations/altitudes -Battalion/squadron LZ Location and safe jump area is obvious, but should be discussed by flight officer, and chalk leaders along with number of jumpers. The flight officer will discuss safe flight needs and a agreed direction will be decided so chalks can be told of suspected landing pattern. Flight officer states today's abort word for jump which either chalk leader, or pilot can use to abort jump. Flight officer may reviewa this time reasons for an all jump such as aircraft damage, pilot dies, aircraft is having issues. Chalks are lined up packs are checked (make sure someone isn't trying to jump with a carryall) Chalk leader review jump location, Rally Point, Jump information, and reviews things like ALL JUMP, and Abort Word Flight crew signals to load aircraft Pilot brings aircraft to prescribed area for jump Flight crew will notify chock leader as follows Crew: Chalk 1 standby (done 30-60 seconds out if possible) CL: everyone standby to jump Crew: Chalk 1 Green Green Green CL:Chalk 1 Jump (the jump can be iniated by just the pilot) C1: One Out (then he jumps) Last out: Seven out last man (jumps) Pilot gives the green for jump Jumpers evacuate the aircraft Jumpers land and begin forming into LGOPs LGOPs move to Battalion LZ Paratroopers on the ground a basic guide If you have a decent sized group and are jumping there are some smart rules to follow due to the spread of most jumps will cause. Trooper taking fire Find cover, and locate the enemy. Return fire towards the nearest enemy. Look at friendly trooper near me, if more of us are shooting at the bad guys than the bad guys shooting at us, keep it up, if not, retrograde in the direction from which you approached, or towards the nearest friendly troopers. For troopers that are not in immediate contact Move to the sound of the firefight. Assess which side has the upper hand. If it is even, try to flank the enemy. Once the initial firefights are done, move to rally point proceed with mission.

Arma 3: Confirmed features | info & discussion

Greenspan again let me point out you obviously don't know crap about the firearms industry. Frankly sorry for the crappy attitude toward your post, but I deal with blind logic(ideas that sound fine but aren't supported). I understand the whole MERICA feel and the M14 family is based of American rifles, however the case isn't solid. First 2035 thats a lot of time for people to sell Iran or any other country these rifles. Not to mention this tidbit of info. Greece helping Iran get oil sold, businessmen subverting the import ban on Iran oil in the first place, and add that all up with Iran having a embassy and good relations with Iran. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2068510/Greeks-block-EU-bid-ban-Iranian-oil-imports-choke-funds-Tehran-regime.html Which is in part a base model for the M14 reverse engineer the M14 off the couple rifles alone isn't hard Norinco sells a reasonable (not identical) variation of the M14 style rifle. With that said I am sorry you are having a hard time wrapping your head around all this, but your reasoning isn' justified, so I can't feel for you you to much other then I wish American made stayed in America. Add to that I think your argument doesn't hold up, and I doubt in reality that Iran wouldn't make a clone if the weapon was that amazing.... Which it really isn't anything special, but people love the rifle because of the history and its cool looking. MistyRonin is right from the Dev side but the in all honesty they are still greek property at the moment, which means they will have greek tech... at the moment who knows what the game and 2035 will hold in store for us.
