    Tank Warfare Info?

Very interesting, and informative. Thank you. I guess I was somewhat fooled by the Tank Showcase, where a few tanks would steamroll through an entire enemy force. So, realistically, the tanks shouldn't explode when hit, just be disabled. Hopefully BIS will change that.

    Tank Warfare Info?

Hello, I started messing around in the editor after the update with the new AAF armoured vehicle and helicopter, learned how set up units, and created an epic night tank slug fest. (Yes, that was armour with a 'u', 'cause the British are right when it comes to spelling. Always.) Except it wasn't as epic as I thought. The reason being is because, for the most part, the crews bailed after a single shot landed on their tank, and the tank exploded shortly afterwards. I will say that the bullets glancing off the front armour was very, very awesome. I set up another scenario, and found out that, for the most part, I can 1-shot tanks with a tank. It seems as though if I aim for the gap between the turret and the hull, a perpendicular hit, or other areas, the tank explodes before I fully reload. I know that tanks would probably be firing at each other long before they get within 1/2 - 1 km in a desert, but I am curious to know if tanks are really that vulnerable to other tanks. I remember watching an alpha tank review, and tanks would receive 10-15 direct hits before exploding. Comparatively, they seem much more fragile. I would be appreciative if someone could point me in the direction of some hard material on tank warfare, or perhaps enlighten me on the subject themselves. It seems my search-fu only comes up with Wikipedia and World of Tanks. Thanks!
  3. Hello, just had a (probably a n00b) question. I see on the sniper rifles and LMGs a short stand. I also thought I saw on a blurry game-play vid of someone with a sniper with the stand deployed. Are the stands purely cosmetic, or can you deploy the stand? If you can, what button do you use to do so? Thanks.
  4. Hello, This is my first Arma title, and I am enjoying everything so far. However, I have a few questions regarding primarily the controls/interface. I don't really like asking questions about the control menu, but even with my years of experience with the notoriously bad X3TC interface, I still can't make head or tails of what some of the functions even are referring too. I have the latest non-dev version. 1) I see in videos that vehicles and some scopes can 'zoom in' on multiple zoom levels. After R clicking, I enter scope. No problem. Long story short, I can't seem to change zoom levels. What function is this referred to in the control figure menu? There isn't anything so obvious as a 'zoom in' button. 2) There must be at least 5 different ways to target something. Currently, it is set to R Mouse Button. Which is inconvenient, because it is also linked to scope. Holding the R Mouse Button also seems to target, but I can't target anything smaller than a large building. I thought tab was also a target button, but all I get is a 'no target' notification. So what is the 'target function' in the control menu? I was doing the Tanks/Gunship showcases, and for the life of me I couldn't get my gunner to target anything. I had to do the first run-through without lock-on or gunner. After I watched a tutorial on how to do the Gunship, I saw that HIS gunner was targeting and missiles locking on, so, after literally hours digging through the menus, I routed everything having to do with targeting a zooming to the R mouse button. So, with frustration, I now have a gunner. But everything is messed up, and I would finally like some expert opinion. 3) On the Artillery, I use the gunner scope to point at a building. I see various info on the HUD. However, when switching to the artillery computer (advanced indeed...), the only variables that match with the HUD are the distance and the elevation. The degrees/REV/TLR or whatever are not aligned with each other. I looked at the compass, and the computer seems to be using compass orientation when working with directions, not the relative orientation to the tank. Which means that my tank has to be facing north to get anywhere near an accurate reading. Am I doing something wrong? What am I doing wrong? That's all for now. Thanks in advanced for clearing things up for me.
