Non-steam with steam

Ok so my brother bought arma 2 as a disc (not on steam) and he let me put it on my laptop. It worked all well and good but the servers wouldnt let us go on the same one for DayZ. Is it the same IP that we cannot join (would be incredibly annoying) or using the same activation code. I was thinking of buying it on steam but im not entirely sure that they have they same servers or if it is separated to steam and non-steam. Otherwise it would just be a waist of money.

Hey guys I have a car that drives to me when I go through a gate it waits until i'm in the car then I get in it and it drives to my set spot but I cant find out how to make it wait until I get out then it drives off. I only need one line of code similar to "player in car;"
