Point me in the right direction!
Digital_Aura replied to Digital_Aura's topic in ARMA 3 - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
EGAD, this game sucks ass. I mean, brilliant concept...love the simulation itself, and the game runs great, looks great and theoretically is the best FPS war sim out there. But poorly executed - what a clusterfuck when you try to play with friends. Spent most of the night looking for a co-op server with at least 12 people on. When we found one, no one was communicating and the mission (find weapon caches and clear enemy units) was boring as hell. We played for an hour not even finding an enemy. Other squadmates were non-compliant and unresponsive. Same for the Sector Control servers we tried. Friendly fire wasn't discouraged, so people that got bored just started shooting the guys beside them. My two other friends playing with me were constantly freezing up and having to restart. In-game voice chat was terrible - stuttery and laggy. Had to rely on teamspeak. But then you cant cooperate with your whole team. In the end we tried to HOST our own game and it's still as clunky as the beta. Forwarding ports and trial and error for the most part. We got one started, and the difficulty is preposterous - just as I remember in the beta. We tried coop - escape from Altis. We spawn in about 400 metres from a enemy tank unit and grenade launcher truck and were immediately mowed down. Foot patrols that we couldn't find were one-shotting us from the mountains somewhere. Utter BS. And thanks for the hundred+ views without comment. What else should I have expected, right? You're the same dudes I tried to get help from playing last night in-game. Unresponsive, unhelpful, and likely too bored to give a shite. Feel free to flame away now, as I don't care. It'll be to deaf ears at this point, I'm done here. -
Hi guys, I bought ARMA III back in alpha stage, and I played it quite a bit and realized it was going to be a huge game in terms of scope, growth and community involvement. I left the game to pursue other interests but want to come back to it but the problem is the game is somewhat daunting unless I want out-of-the-box gameplay. I remember playing some cool mods and user missions and I'm sure at this stage everything is just bigger and BETTER. What I'd like is some guidance from the community here to get me and my crew of 4 friends back into the game either at a COOP level or a PVP multiplayer level: 1/ what is the best user interface enhancement mod now? 2/ are there any other 'gotta have' mods that you recommend we get? 3/ suggestions for populated/popular servers hosting multiplayer games (Canada/USA) 4/ What are the best user made COOP missions out there now? Much appreciated, gents!

appeal to serveradmins: stop killing pvp, stop killing the game!

I know what you're saying, but there's a ton of great scenarios already available ... they just need a few tweaks I would think... and a server. -
Did 1.02 Hot fix (lastest patch) affect AI skill ratings?
Digital_Aura replied to tmp95's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
here we go again... someone making note of the fact that AI is unfairly using their superhuman abilities to hear trained stealthy warriors from a mile away and deliver mind-numbingly accurate headshots with lightning response. Usually before a player can even be aware of any enemy presence. And once again, you get replies like, "its perfect, I like it hard"... and ... "they're supposed to be difficult". *sigh No. No, no, no. Good AI would get down and lay down suppressive fire in your general direction. Maybe call for back up. Maybe establish a line of flankers to try to respond to the threat. But spotting us from a mile away with the sun in their eyes (I always use the sun to my advantage especially in dawn/dusk scenarios) and being able to fire a single shot which delivers a killing blow is completely asinine and spoils the fun, especially when you've taken 20-30 minutes to set up and tactically take advantage of a situation. Stray bullets, I can understand. But there's so often never even a gunfight. It's over before it begins basically. I agree with TMP -
appeal to serveradmins: stop killing pvp, stop killing the game!
Digital_Aura replied to fabio_chavez's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Its crazy how so many people here immediately deny what Fabio has already stated factually (as represented not only by his server findings, but what me and my friends see EVERY DAY since the even the alpha!) That this game doesn't offer pvp on the scale of say BF3. (I'm not comparing the game to BF3 you asshats, I'm saying the amount of players you'd see playing against other actual players). There are many of you who prefer CO-OP play, but some of us abhor AI opponents. We want the thrill of interacting and playing against other players, even other online friends, without it turning into a "everyone rush to this tiny circle and have at it". You all whine when someone dares to bring up BF3 in an Arma conversation but thats what a lot of these King of the Hill servers are turning this game into. True pvp would envision at least 30 players per faction with real objectives - even scenarios - where the other factions would have an opposing goals. It doesn't mean everyone has to end up in a chokepoint in one place on the map. Hopefully this changes. I hate the KINGoftheHILL crap. -
I'll add what I've noticed: Myself and 4 others hook up in Multiplayer (makes no difference whether a vanilla MP map or a scenario from workshop). Regardless of who hosts the game, 25% of the time blowing up a vehicle (or having your own vehicle blow up) often causes one, two or all of us to crash. The crash is usually not to desktop...but a frozen screen. Ctrl+Alt+Del to desktop reveals the "Arma 3 Has Stopped working" dialog. Also, when only one or two players crash the other players all note that an ingame message says something about the player being kicked because of a "Steam Ticket" failure of some kind. Only one player in our midst didn't crash. He has Nvidia card and changed the setting from auto-select to cpu.

CiA Petition Letter to BIS and DnA's Response
Digital_Aura replied to Variable's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
I'm just really impressed not only with the response, but that there WAS a response. Kudos to this company, for sure. I think they're still in a place we are actually game enthusiasts and not simply consumers.. (cough*..EA...cough*) This company takes the high road... and admits that they made mistakes. In my mind, I couldn't feel better about any game knowing that this is an evolving product that they actually care about. -
I looked through the Field Manual too, but I see nothing on acquiring or locking targets (at least from a helicopter or vehicle). The configuration for controls has a lock which I thought was for launchers (right mouse click). I'll try pressing 2... haven't played much with the command menus yet. edit: wait! Thats my problem... how do you establish an enemy when he's plainly in your line of sight and yet doesn't show up in the menu when you press 2
-
So what button to acquire (bring up the red box around) a target? And what button to cycle between targets? (assuming you can have multiple targets)
-
I was playing the Gunships Showcase and noticed (after several attempts) that I could put the gunner under my own control even as the pilot (MANUAL MODE)... and that was great because my guns were auto targeting the closest enemy boats and choppers. I just had to maintain the proper orientation and press the FIRE button to take out the various enemies. But then a new task (to take out the enemy behind their own lines) meant I needed to reacquire new ground targets. But now my guns were all just firing down the bore. How do you LOCK a target? And ... does TAB let you cycle targets? Any firing information would be helpful regarding the Gunship. I actually haven't found too much good information on the Gunships.

I think what I'm hearing is genuine and valid frustration, and while it is "just a beta" I can't help but also feel much of what Windies says is exactly how me and my clan feel. (And at least Windies can carry on an argument intelligently and politely).
-
I have yet to find any good Multiplayer servers during the alpha/beta phase... I assume that will change? I've been hearing a lot of whining about how weak the multiplayer aspect is, but I have to disagree. I think if we could get a server with enough people (even a dozen per faction) it would be amazing. Will BIS host their own servers on release? I really really really hate playing against AI.
-
Some friends and I have been really enjoying the beta, especially the Dynamic Universal War System scenario in the workshop. However, we only get about 20 minutes in and the host server starts freezing up. We've each tried hosting but it's always the same thing. I noticed this problem on a few other third party MP campaigns too. Is this memory leakage? Can it be fixed? Are the devs aware of this problem?
-
Is this broke or do only certain optics have the capability!?
-
Just wanted to say this is the best MP mission I've played (although I can only play a short while)... Also getting the yellow/red broken chain icon showing up after 10 minutes or so and no one is able to do anything. (Is that what you guys mean by desync?) Can someone post a link of a previous version that works? Someone mentioned v.5.2 but I can't find it. If not... well hopefully it gets ironed out in a little while. Great effort on this, mr. Creator!
