  1. For all that are interested, a new server for the Operation Trebuchet mod has been set up. This server is, of course, open to the public with one additional mod requirement other than OPTRE and it's dependencies. The server will be running a blank Zeus Gamemaster mission and the Zeus slots (located at the bottom of the player lobby) are open to anyone who wants to try their hand at providing a fun yet challenging experience to the players. Currently the server is set up for a maximum of 30 players, but will be increased as/if popularity grows. There are only a few simple yet important rules to be followed: Be respectful to your fellow players No trolling Do not abuse Zeus (i.e spamming random objects, dropping things on top of players to kill them, abusing lightning strikes etc.) Zeus abuse will result in a kick after the first offense and a ban after the second You MUST be in teamspeak while on the server (See required mods) Other than that have a good time and please leave feedback to help us improve your experience(s) on the server. Without further ado, here is the server information: Server Name: Stay Tactical - Operation Trebuchet - OPTRE Server IP/Port: 74.91.114.229:2302 Teamspeak IP: staytactical.ts.nfoservers.com Discord Server: https://discord.gg/0wTFBA1dkIewB2Hn Required Mods: Community Based Addons, Operation Trebuchet, Task Force Radio Optional Mods: Blastcore A3, JSRS3 Dragonfyre EDEN, JSRS3 Dragonfyre 2.5 (if you haven't upgraded your JSRS yet), ShackTac Group Indicators, ShackTac Nametags, ShackTac Fireteam HUD, Ares Modules (highly recommended if you're going to Zeus) P.S. This server will also begin OPTRE as well as non-OPTRE events, and operations as time goes on and the community begins to grow.
  2. I know this is old, but the reason it doesn't change is because for units, if you add setGroupID to their Init field it's not going to change until the unit is Initialized (i.e the mission actually has to start to run the Initialization code). Same if you were to add it in init.sqf, it won't be run until the mission starts.

    Arma3 Videos

My latest video. Not my best work. Mainly just another test for upcoming cinematics. I also just recorded it and made it to start getting in the habit of actually following through with a little project when I think about it. Instead of just thinking about what I WOULD do, I want to start getting in the habit of actually doing it, and uploading it. As I said, not my best work, but it is decent enough I think. Any feedback is appreciated.

    Arma3 Videos

Hey everyone. I have made my very first Arma 3 cinematic music video. Something I have been wanting to do for a very long time. The improvements in Arma 3 have made cinematics take a huge step up from Arma 2, so I have decided to do so. About 85 to 90% of the video is recorded by me using the cinematic camera. Please leave a like, or dislike and maybe a comment letting me know what you think! Thanks!

    Radio Protocols

Yes this is true, however I can think of a way to do it. The keys wouldn't matter. You wouldn't need to do the hand signals yourself. You simply set the squad to stealth mode as you do now, then give orders as you normally would, just instead of them talking, they would use hand signals. It would keep things simple while also allowing for the game to actually feel like you are moving around without giving away your position. And for example say a player is the one on the receiving end of the order, the text in the bottom left would pop up as it normally does, just no talking, hand signals only, that way you know the squad leader is talking to you. Also, differentiating would be easy. For example, say you want to send 1 and 3 to a corner. You select only 1 and 3, give them the order to move, team leader or squad leader, whichever one you have, raises is hand with index finger extended.. pauses.. fist.. extends index, middle and ring finger for 3..pauses.. gives hand signal to move. I am not saying implement a complex set of controls for hand signals. I am simply saying that instead of whispering loudly, just change it all to hand signals.. you still give orders the normal way, your guy just automatically does the corresponding hand signals for the orders.. That wouldn't be too hard honestly.
  6. I noticed that after this past update, all of the Skirmish modules except for the "Skirmish: Trigger" module, have been removed! I was suspicious so I had a friend check his game, and they were missing for him too. This is really a punch in the gut, as I was in the middle of creating a fairly complex mission that makes use of the dynamic spawns. Does anyone know what BIS has done with them? Have they temporarily removed them and they will make an appearance in a future build? Have they condensed them into something else to make it easier for mission makers? Have they lost their minds and for some strange reason removed them permanently from the game causing tons of people's missions to now be rendered useless? Or, have they moved the modules to the dev build only? What has happened to our beloved skirmish modules?

    Radio Protocols

Well, I very much like the addition of dedicated radio protocols however there is one thing I think they can do to make it even better. When a black op is taking place, or a squad is using stealth in general they do not risk giving away their position by whispering orders either in person or over the radio. When they go silent, they go SILENT, and only use hand signals to give orders. Of course it depends on the situation, however that is how it works. I think it would be cool if they added that to the stealth radio protocol, or created a new protocol named Radio Silence protocol or something. That would be extremely immersive and a first for a military game. You want Arma to be considered a true MilSim? Take that extra step and you'd be doing yourself a huge favor. Who else would like to see something like this in vanilla instead of waiting for a Mod for it like we did in ArmA 2?

    GTFO DayZ! Who's With Me?

I wouldn't say crying. That is the internet child's replacement for the actual term of, "statement of one's personal opinion of", because as we all know the minds of this generation do not have the required capacity to extend their vocabulary that far. And trust me, the amount of random people who just come into a public server and make it almost impossible to play properly, sky rocketed when DayZ started getting big. So yes, I am complaining about the mark DayZ left. This is getting off topic, veering off into the existence of DayZ, when in the original post, I stated that the main concern and/or annoyance, was that DayZ has been ported over to Arma 3, so yes I will say that the existence of DayZ in ARMA 3, is not on the top of my list when it comes to things that bring happiness.

    GTFO DayZ! Who's With Me?

How do you figure I am not sincere? Yes, I may come off as a little bitter about what DayZ did to the Arma 2 community, but I do in fact enjoy the game/mod. In fact I still play it from time to time, albeit I play DayZ Origins, but it is still DayZ nonetheless. And I never said it was a hardcore Sim. I simply stated it's genre, which I accurately stated as defined by BIS themselves that ArmA is a MilSim. That's what it is, plain and simple. I am sorry that you don't have to press about 7 different buttons just to properly fire your weapon, but that's just how it is. It is a simulation game that still offers a level of simplicity while giving it a sense of realism. ---------- Post added at 03:30 ---------- Previous post was at 03:28 ---------- Nothing wrong with stating my personal opinion. I never said it was wrong for them to play it. I stated that it was annoying having to deal with everyone coming in and ruining the core game's servers with their ridiculous antics. Blowing everything up and killing people on sight.

    GTFO DayZ! Who's With Me?

Hmmph! A lot of good the filtering did. No matter what was filtered, half the results were still DayZ servers. When DayZ arose, most of the servers began filling up with DayZ players who didn't even know what ArmA was, they just bought it because it was required to play the mod. So when I say it ruined the Arma 2 community, I am not talking about JUST overpopulating the server list with DayZ servers. I am talking about most of the good servers losing their reputation for fun, organized, and tactical gaming because DayZ players who had no idea what the point of ArmA was, were running around, blowing everything up because they finally had unlimited access to all the weapons that they drooled, day-dreamed, and jizzed their pants about finding in DayZ.

    GTFO DayZ! Who's With Me?

Heh,you hold a point good sir, however it is impossible to truly determine how long I have been a part of the ArmA community based on a join date to the forum. Sure, I didn't create an account until two months ago because i haven't had a need for one. I did my fair share of reading and felt no need to add any input on any of the matters. I have not played the original ArmA, no; but I am an ArmA 2 veteran, with hundreds of hours of playtime on Arma 2. So don't try and slander me with your assumptions that I am new to the ArmA scene.
  13. Ok. So, I know that Dean Hall wasn't the one who ported it over I am assuming that a user did. But I mean, come on. DayZ has ruined the truly genuine community of Arma 2 by filling up the server list with nothing but DayZ servers. But now you're telling me people are going to start trying to ruin the Arma 3 community without it even being final release yet? Come on, keep your DayZ shit to Arma 2 and wait for standalone. Don't fill up the Arma 3 server list with DayZ servers, that's why they are making a standalone. I am not raging here, I just think it is highly annoying that already, still in alpha, DayZ is in Arma 3 and I bet half the people who have bought Arma 3 are going to come stumbling in to your tactical server, and start blowin shit up because they are DayZ and CoD fanboys. And I am not hating on DayZ or anything, in fact I quite enjoy the game, and am anticipating the standalone. But there is a reason I am stoked about both DayZ standalone AND Arma 3. it is because the DayZ players can stay in their own DayZ community, without polluting the Arma community and vice versa. Idk, when I play Arma 3 I don't like seeing DayZ servers populating the list. I play Arma 3 for the MilSim aspects. I was excited that I wouldn't have to worry about running into a plethora of DayZ servers when looking for a good server to play in. I just think it is pretty dumb to port it over to Arma 3. Just be patient and wait for standalone for christ's sake. Anyhow, that is my personal opinion on the matter. What do you guys think? P.S. No flaming, trolling, insulting, raging etc. I just want to hear your genuine opinions, not get raged at or have others raging at each other, that is not my intention.
  14. Hello all, I sure hope you are all enjoying Arma 3 as much as I am! I have a question about the new arma3server.exe that was added in this last update. I really want to begin making use of it, however I don't know how or where the config files for the server are. Do I need to create them? I know there is a way to log in to the server itself, at least there should be, however if i cannot find the server config files how am I to know the Admin login info? I really would like to get a dedicated server up and running, and even have a machine I am going to host it on, I just need to know where the heck I can find the files to edit the server settings. Can anyone point me in the right direction for this? All of the information I have found thus far has proven to be useless as it doesn't work. Thank you for any and all help. Best Regards, Bmxchamp4
  15. Hello everyone!! If you have been enjoying the Arma 3 Alpha as much as I have, then I am extremely happy for you! As an Arma 2 vet, I along with THOUSANDS of other people, have been anticipating Arma 3 for a VERY long time. I am so glad to be able to fire it up and get into a game right away! I am also glad to be able to browse through a server list that contain players actually wanting to play good ol' Arma instead of hundreds upon hundreds of nothing but those damn DayZ servers UGH! So anyway, as we all know there have been an absolute ton of changes and improvements made to the game in this new installment, and there are plenty more mouth watering features to come! However, one question eats at the back of my mind that I can't seem to find any information on. What is new about the Arma 3 editor? Are there any new features available right now, and will there be newer features added as it progresses through alpha, to beta, and final release? I know that there are a plethora of items and features that will be implemented as time goes on, but so far I haven't noticed many differences in the editor. I've noticed a few, but they seem pretty minuscule compared to what I was hoping they would do with the editor. Although if they aren't changing or adding much to the editor that is just fine, seeing as mission creation is almost, if not identical to Arma 2. I was just hoping for some features that would make mission editing and creation an even easier experience. Such as a built in spawn creation rather than having to create spawn points manually via the init.sqf, and an easier way to determine where INSIDE a building you'd like to place a unit. I know that now when placing a unit on top of a building, they will spawn inside, however, I feel that the user should be able to better determine WHERE inside they want them to be. Also, another feature I was hoping for, as were quite a few people, is an actual finished, well polished, easier to use 3D editor. I know this is alpha still and they have yet to add tons of new content and features, but obviously as of now we all know that this new content and features will affect the game itself, meaning gameplay. Does anyone happen to know if they have further plans for the editor though?
