Well, it's not like you can move random code between CPU and GPU. I don't believe ARMA has code running on CPU that can be (easily or at all) moved to GPU.

I've read that post the day it was posted. Still doesn't mean the whole regular branch patch changelog will be there.
-
I doubt it will be available there. It's a Dev branch changelog

And how exactly do you achieve stereoscopic effect if you don't render the scene twice from 2 separate viewpoints/cameras? Can you also quickly elaborate on how a reflective surface is rendered (like water or a mirror)? I mean real reflections and not cubemaps.

Let's put all this bubble talk aside. You don't want to help BIS test the game for free. You don't want to help BIS get more profit by transforming your imaginary friends that have alpha-lite into paying customers. You, people, just want to play the game for free.

Seriously? is this what to expect from ARMA 3?
Devil_Inside replied to MrUnSavory's topic in ARMA 3 - MULTIPLAYER
Yeah, 30 years ago he was beta testing Pong and Super Mario... oh wait, Super Mario was released 2 years later. -
I'm actually mind-blown by the ignorance of some of the people here. Not only you get the game at half the price if you pre-order now. You get access to the alpha and beta too. Also you get 3 alpha-lite invites for your friends to try. But that's not enough. You actually want the fully working version for free. There could be no price reduction for pre-ordering. There could be no public alpha test. There could be no public beta test. There could be no freaking free invites. But there is! And with all these you still have the nerve to ask for more? Get over yourself. It's the price of a pizza with a few beers. Don't be a freaking cheapass if you're so interested in the game.

OP is a troll that wants to play a game without paying for it

Mass Effect 3? No, never played mass effect. -

The game needs a keyword filter to FILTER OUT servers one doesn't like. -

It's getting ridiculous when people start throwing the "I've been beta testing games for 75 years, this is not what the beta should be. You all are idiots! Fck you!" Playing games is not the same as beta-testing games. -
NEW NVIDIA BETA 314.21 FIX for lots of problems

So many problems fixed! Has anyone tested? Maybe the new driver can also cure cancer? -
Terrain Improvement (dev branch)
Devil_Inside replied to NordKindchen's topic in ARMA 3 - DEVELOPMENT BRANCH
Well, let's hope it's doable and the dev-team will try it out. -
Terrain Improvement (dev branch)
Devil_Inside replied to NordKindchen's topic in ARMA 3 - DEVELOPMENT BRANCH
No, it won't be enough. The example image you see in OP was probably made in screen space. So the photoshoped detail texture was probably huge compared to the scale of the satmap scale. This way you've got diversity and those irregularities even on the same terrain type. If you reduce the resolution, you'll either get a very blurry detail texture, or you'll get a noticeable tile across the terrain of the same type. -
Terrain Improvement (dev branch)
Devil_Inside replied to NordKindchen's topic in ARMA 3 - DEVELOPMENT BRANCH
This looks great, but most probably it will be a problem to implement because there is a limit of textures that can be passed to the shader. I don't know how many textures BI is using currently, but you'll need to add the logic map texture, plus a "detail" texture for every type of terrain (instead of just one currently used). If they'll somehow manage to pass all this textures into the shader, there's the problem with the blending. You basically sample each detail texture and use the color from the "logic map" (which you also need to sample) as the blending factor. So basically the terrain shader will get really heavy with all the texture sampling and blending. They can of course pack all the detail terrain textures into a single texture. This will take fewer multi-texturing slots in the shader and will also require only one texture sample for the detail textures, but will also greatly reduce their resolution and will also need some algorithm to compute the offset for the respective texture using the color from the "logic map". It's been some time since I last worked with shaders, and maybe the technology advanced and solved all those limitations, but that's the problems I currently see with the idea. -
[Feature Request] 180 degree turn
Devil_Inside replied to mr_centipede's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
Double tapping S and then having to press W to actually start running? Useless feature imho. "Features" like this clutter the forum and the feedback tracker, distracting attention from real feature requests and bugs. -
Please add this feature!

lol. By the way you talk, you actually sound like a 16yo who actually did jump on the DayZ bandwagon, and that's exactly where you're coming from. If you actually had 20 years in IT, you wouldn't be making those BOLD statements about how it will be a totally different game by the time it gets released. This game has a long history. And all games in the series are plagued by mostly the same issues, which are hardly fixed from one release to the next. There might be some room for performance improvements, but it's not as huge as you're implying. Otherwise most of the optimization would be already done.

Multiplayer frames/ps Drop? No SLI Optimization?
Devil_Inside replied to hershisquirt's topic in ARMA 3 - MULTIPLAYER
So server hardware affects client FPS? Is it a way to avoid visible lag by reducing engine tick rate? -
Yeap. That bothers me too. Is there a direct connection between the FPS and server performance? Or is it because MP has lots of objects in the world at the same time? Why when I start an MP mission I get 30 fps (which is perfectly playable), and after 10 minutes it goes down to 18-20?

How does one turn off the thermal or IR image in the in-gunner PIP?
Devil_Inside replied to pappalitto's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
There is no way, I believe, as that is probably not the way it's supposed to be used. The other question is: why the hell can't I enter "optics" mode by pressing Right Mouse Button while in the vehicle. Both RMB and Num0 are set as the optics, yet only Num0 works in the vehicle. I almost thought there is no way to actually look through the screen at first. Had to try every single button on my keyboard. I hope this gets fixed. I hate inconsistencies like this one.
