  1. The "It's an Alpha: be quiet" argument would be fine if the textures we're talking about were pure #FF00FF magenta or something and obviously placeholders. As they stand, they're good enough that they might be the intended final version. Given that, the fact that it's an Alpha (where the point is to give feedback), and the absence of any guidance from BIS as to whether the textures will be improved for the Final - then it's perfectly fine to point out that the current state of the textures isn't good enough. There are demonstrated ways (see the linked threads above) to improve the middle-distance ground texture appearance without increasing the load on the machine.
  2. I love a whole lot of things about how the alpha's shaping up, but have been most delighted by the fact that: Burning fireplaces cause damage to players. I can't justify it, but I was deeply affected by the realisation that I can't sit in a cooking fire any more. That, and the PhysX and lighting.
  3. There's a good post from Bushlurker on one of the linked threads about why it's possible to improve the appearance without increasing the size of the textures. I urge anyone concerned about a "performance hit", or anyone saying "they're low res to guarantee better performance" to read it. Until there's word from BIS saying "The lomg-distanced textures in the Alpha do not represent those in the Final", then it's perfectly valid to bring attention to them.
  4. Judging by how spoon-fed the ARG's been so far, I doubt the mission's been released somewhere secret yet. Don't get me wrong: I'd love it to be out and hidden somewhere - waiting for us to track it down, but it would be a pretty abrupt transition from what we've been getting up to now.

Price of Supporters Edition - Arma 3 BIStudio

The prices you mentioned were the advertised prices before release. So I don't think anyone can feel hard done by if that's what they paid. As others above and in the other (three? More? e.g.) threads about exactly this thing have mentioned, prices were bouncing all over the place on and after release day. I personally (also in NSW) clicked "Add to cart" and "Checkout" with it saying US$91, after which it dropped to US$75 at the Credit Card screen. I chalked it up as a lucky bonus - I was happy to pay the extra $16 so the lower price was a nice treat, but not something I was in any way entitled to.

    Server load graphs?

Ok, this is probably WAY off-topic, and maybe in the wrong forum but I'll ask anyway (maybe I can justify it by saying it relates to Arma3's popularity?): Is there any chance we could see a graph of the server load in the hours leading up to, during, and ramping down from the alpha's release? I'm a sucker for graphs, and was one of the people basically DDOSing the site at release, trying to buy into the alpha. While I watched Firefox pop up the "There was a problem connecting" page for the forty-billionth time, I started wondering about the loads we were putting on the servers. So, anyone from BI keen to share proprietary, commercial information?

    Server load graphs?

This is the one shameless bump I'll do of this thread. I'd hoped to clarify the thread title, but it appears I'm not that privileged.

    Price difference

Price was bouncing around between those two numbers for quite a few people. I and others got ours for the same you did. Haven't checked for the maps or soundtracks yet.
  9. Nice one, buddy ;) (Or should I say UPJL VUL, IBKKF ?) Really? Looks to me like Tony Grunt was first with either version?
  10. EDIT: All of these I've checked, and can be ignored. They aren't leads. Three things: 1) m26.node-42.rv4a3.org/ seems to have gone down in the last 10 minutes. I'm getting a timeout error (although duckduckgo.com says it's up). 2) I think igor@m26.node-42.rv4a3.org isn't the only built-in user. I normally use Opera as my browser, which is sometimes a bit goofy with JavaScript, and when I type 'igor' into the login prompt, the page automatically resets straight away (no need to hit enter or anything). I had to use Firefox to log in. The same auto-reset happens to me in Opera for: ra jerry hubbard lar harry My guess is that these (with the @m26.node-42.rv4a3.org suffix) are also accounts. I was going to try them with CPE1704TKS as a password, but now can't get to the prompt at all. I have also tried these names, which do not trigger the auto-reload: tom diana david brunkow 3) Has anyone read the serverprotocol.txt file? I can't tell if David Brunkow is a real person and this is an immersive file from somewhere, or if it's relevant (edit - I think he's real and irrelevant). I had thought my ip might be blocked because I tried visiting http://m26.node-42.rv4a3.org:2515 in the browser and also through SSH - I saw the port mentioned in that file "...and the Radar Control Server(RCS). The RCS listens on a default port of 2515 at the IP address identified as radcon on the radar local network."
