Noted. OP You dont have to solely depend on BIS to supply you with present day scenarios. Numerous mission makers and mod makers are making new mods, updating/porting old ones to arma 3. I know when Arma 3 gets more stable and gets a proper medical system I will make missions utilizing "present day tech". Its what I can immerse myself in and what I aim to immerse others in. All in all its not quite as horrible as it may seem.

Im not arguing better. Im just saying it has its realistic features/ moments. See MW3's opening level the extraction via seahawk (I think its the opening levels) or just about any fast rope sequence. Look at Medal of Honor Airborne sequences. The airborne units are actually attached via static line. albiet they dont land correctly. but hey Im not expecting them to be the most realistic thing out there. oddly enough on watching a video one can botch the landing and land straight down.*note they actually have modelled reserve chutes* Not sure if it has actual negative consequences. or the ugv's from mw3 which look deceptively like the ones from the sword program. Or the native without need to be scripted working ac-130 gunships As for generic enemies? Hmm bf2 had the EU, US, and Russia team up against China and the middle eastern union? Also " The game also takes place in different fronts, as the Middle East and China are being invaded by US and EU forces, and the United States is being invaded by Chinese and MEC forces." CoD? Allies - U.S. Navy · U.S. Air Force · U.S. Army Rangers · U.S. Navy SEALs · United States Secret Service · LAPD · FBI · SDC · People's Liberation Army · Panamanian Defense Forces · Mujahideen · UNITA · ISA · Colossus Security · Tacitus Corporation · Yemeni Army Enemies-Cordis Die · Mercs · Yemeni Militia · SDC · People's Liberation Army · ISI · Yemeni Army · Zombies · Panamanian Defense Forces · MPLA · Tropas · Batallón Dignidad · Menendez Cartel · Soviet Armed Forces · Mujahideen alas that is offtopic Its funny that you say this "I want games that do something different every time, not just regurgitate the same sides with minor differences in different geographical locations. Future NATO vs Future Iran is something I've not seen before (nor the Mediterranean setting), and I want to see more. " As the factions in arma 3 thus far are essentially the same sides with minor differences. I feel no stark difference like I do in Arma 2/OA. You know when you are fighting as US, Russian, Chedaki, Guerilla, Insurgent, Takistani Milita. I will concede that we are in beta and they probably arent fleshed out yet + more factions to come. That being said I have my preference but it wont stop me from enjoying the game in its futuristic settings. I am a mission maker afterall. Ill make my "present" day scenarios on my own. I particularly liked making my Purity missions though they didnt capture the "emotions" I was looking for. "Relatively peaceful Libya is thrown in to turmoil because of unrest in neighbouring countries, specifically Chad. Chad remains plagued by political violence and recurrent attempted coups d'état. The situation has caused thousands of refugees to flood the southern districts of Libya, unfortunately, the local rebels are clashing with the incoming refugees and criminal elements. Libyas' military, unfortunately, is in its infancy and can not cope with these issues at this time. Thus Libya has asked the Russia Federation to supplement its forces with training and border patrol. Russia has assigned 18th Independent Motor-Rifle Brigade to Ghat District and this is their story."

In certain aspects yes. Also note that word "MOST" For example. Arma 3 you can carry 100+kg and still sprint. CoD you can not. CoD wins realism battle there. Crysis most cover can be penetrated by either enough bullets or a higher calibre. Trees can be cut in half by heavy mg fire. The physics overall is much more smooth and realistic. (atleast on the part of the non superhuman ai) To simply dismiss a whole game as unrealistic because it makes no blatant attempt at being realistic is short-sighted. I also note you skipped over my main point of the timelines. Simply put most new popular shooters are just about at the same timeline as Arma.

Did some checking cod - 2025, bf3- 2014, bf4 - 2020, crysis3 2043, some of the most "realistic of the latest shooters" seems to me like they are following the trend.

Backpacks, looting, stealing, teamkilling
Masharra replied to BlackBalsam's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Agreed. Some problems are visible no matter the game mode and need to be acknowledged! Though try to check the first 2 pages a bit more indepth especially under the -beta section- http://forums.bistudio.com/forumdisplay.php?160-ARMA-3-BETA Its where we "complainers" like to hide :D -
Just close your eyes and listen to the first 45 seconds of this Fun Fun Fun! or 25-40 seconds "For us it's about focusing on the core experience which is a tactical first person shooter that is set in a much more realistic and authentic environment than a lot of our competitors its not about being a military simulation its about fun its about gameplay and its about keeping the player engaged and entertained" Oddly enough they also had more realistic loadouts. That sounds very similar to a few things that have been said....

Backpacks, looting, stealing, teamkilling
Masharra replied to BlackBalsam's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
To assist a bit Sa Matra's Wasteland http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?154610-MP-Team-Sa-Matra-s-Wasteland Got's Wasteland http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?156117-MP-COOP-DM-GoT-Wasteland-v2-(Enhanced-edition) 404's http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?155995-404Wasteland-TPG-Edition-(Built-In-Anti-Hack-Script) No doubt individual server admins have changed one or two things to their likings so... It is imperative you let the actual mission makers know that they need to do something to encourage the teamplay you desire in a "public" setting. If they simply toss you in a world with guns and a vague objective with respawn galore, one can not expect much. -
Backpacks, looting, stealing, teamkilling

I would suggest instead of saying all of this in the ArmA 3 general Section - You look for your "editor" of Wasteland and take up your complaints there. Incase you did not now. Wasteland is a User Developed Game mode of questionable quality. Not an official game mode. (though you would wonder sometimes) It is the flavour of the month/year. -
Perhaps my that phrase is being taken a bit more seriously than I intended. My main point was that your statement is (imo) flawed. Numerous people take issue with numerous things. This is not the first time the editor has been brought up. A quick glance at the arma 2 forums should show it. Hence my "you must be new here" as in unfamiliar with issues. Like http://feedback.arma3.com/view.php?id=7666 or http://feedback.arma3.com/view.php?id=2496 Also before you think I am "bashing " you about your join date perhaps you should look at mine? I also dont see this irrational opposition. I see a disagreeing on the definition of user-friendliness and a agreement on adding additional features.

True.. And if you play hardcore there is no hp regen at all. Similar to R6 oldschool days. Get shot... limp the next 40 minutes. Back in the days when "we" had balls and werent scared to be punished for mistakes. We accepted, learned, and adapted. And somehow games like that are known as some of thee BEST and most popular tactical shooters. obviously they werent fun... Im not sure what is "adult" about your signature now. :D Though if I managed to upset you that much then Thanks! I always enjoy knowing I have that much control over random strangers emotions. I feel like Xavier from x-men. That being said I shall Link smurfs great post from earlier in the thread. http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?157425-Beta-fatigue-effects&p=2426509&viewfull=1#post2426509 He had/has some great ideas collected from earlier in the thread and his own concerning fatigue and encumbrance.

Me a fanboy apologist? You really must be new here. You may want to click my name and view past posts.... :D I was not stating I was a veteran for attention. You asked how far I was willing to go. I stated what I was willing to do. If all I had to do so they could enhance the med system, add wind, maybe add a closer to present day scenario was reup then by all means I would have signed the papers long ago. Next I have 470ish hours in CoDBO1 and even more in CoD4. When I say perhaps one should play CoD I do not mean it as an insult, I mean maybe you should just go play CoD instead. The only people who get insulted when their game is insulted are shallow people. When I first started playing crusader kings 2 and I complained about some things that were "at the time too hard no fun" I was told that I should go play a game that is tailored for me rather than them changing for me. I refused and learned how to play and I currently have over 800hrs in CK2. Please define Ultra-Realism? How does one get more real than real? To go further into your post " What about any of these things make the game better or fun? " Realistic weights would give the Assistant "anything" a point. Further promoting teamwork and reliance on communication.

TPW FALL: realistic infantry falling system
Masharra replied to tpw's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Hmm you read my thoughts. There is already a massive difference when falling when you have just plates in, add in the rest of the gear and you tend to go to the ground relatively easily. I will admit that the prone animation isnt the best but you have to work with what you have and damn good work it is! -
you must be new round these parts.. or simply looking in the wrong threads.
-
Your sig screams USI. On topic.... Add this much realism how far am I willing to go? I dont know. If they were willing to adjust the carry weight I wouldnt mind reupping. Would get a large bonus too. You know what else can make the game fun? Mechs. " if I want a idk Park Simulator, I'll simply bypass the game and just go to the park in reality. " If you want to play some blatantly unrealistic bs maybe you should simply bypass the game and go back to playing CoD?

Care to reference the document that recommends 33? Also recommends 33 for what? It has been a while since Ive read the docs so I may have missed it. Not in my documents... 33 is referenced 12 times (MWCL) and not in any capacity that you give examples. As far as I am aware no other documents have been linked or discussed in this thread so what documents are you referring to?

Its a risky game drawing in new players without alienating the old. We shall see how it works out.

How do you explain The "life" servers then?
-
.... umm metric system. Always been used.

You probably cant log in here but rest assured they do. https://milgaming.army.mil/ Depends on definition of weigh station. Scales arent unheard of and the good ol SGT lifts pack "this is too heavy Whats in here? Give X to Y he is lighter/ screw it" (generalising)
-
Read the document I liked a few pages back It showed average weights. As a 11c -indirect infantryman Those lads you met, were the exception, not the norm. ---- edit--- ah thats still on average heavier than the average us load. 60-80lbs with the extremes being 100's. much different :P
-
You Brits are bloody supermen. Are you guys on Ketracel-white? Is that 100kg including the actual persons weight? Also can you list out the gear that equals this 100kg aka 220.462lbs? Remember you have "MOST GUYS" Maybe if you were a dismounted 81mm even then. on reading up on it it seems you brits carry inane weights http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/afghanistan/8455741/Britains-donkey-soldiers-are-losing-the-war-in-Afghanistan.html "Writing anonymously, the author reveals that the Taliban have dubbed British soldiers "donkeys" who move in a tactical "waddle" because they now carry an average weight of 110lbs worth of equipment into battle." Unfortunately you are still about 100lb aka 50kg too heavy. "The officer claims that by the end of a routine four hour patrol, soldiers struggle to make basic tactical judgements because they are physically and mentally exhausted."
-
Yea its big and all but only somewhat really.(actually it adds quite a bit but the Chern should be overlayed the actual island itself.)People keep adding in the underwater. I have yet to see a reasonable underwater mission take place more than 200m away from shore.

Penetration. bullets do it.
