Arma 3 Alpha crashing with Radeons
Terminal_Boy replied to d3lta's topic in ARMA 3 - TROUBLESHOOTING
Anyone having BSOD crashes using 7870 cards needs to read this: http://www.behardware.com/news/12705/black-screens-and-radeon-hd7870-a-solution.html I've spent over a month backing out various overclocks and swapping components suspecting I'd messed something up during re-casing my gaming PC and adding CPU water-cooling. Turns out my Sapphire 7870 2GB "Ghz Edition" comes from the earliest and most badly affected batch. -

Separate options for DOF, Blur and Glare, Ambient Occlusion ?

On at Low setting so that I can have ATOC = All Trees & Grass which tidies up the "picket fence" texture you can get on grass that's backlit. -
Here's what settings I chose that give around 40 FPS in complex terrain (building and bushes/trees) and still looks great compared to A2 after 2 hours using the Editor. Default daylight/blue skies settings. Specs: i5 2500K OC'd to 4 GHz / ASUS P8P67 / 16 GB of DDR2 1866 / 2 GB HD7870 Note: I haven't set any Launch parameters or made any changes to the A3 config files. Catalyst driver: 13.10 No additional graphical enhancements and everything set to "Application Controlled" in Catalyst Control Centre. Basic Settings: Resolution: 1920x1080x32 Interface Size: Small Aspect: 16:9 -Wide Visibility: Overall: 1800 Object: 1250 Shadow: 80 Rendering: Resolution: 1920x1080x32 (100%) Vertical Sync: Disabled HDR: Standard. Anisotropic Filtering (AF): Very High. PIP: High. Dynamic Lighting: High. Anti-Aliasing (AA): x2 PPAA - FXAA High. ATOC: All Trees & Grass. Post Process Quality: Low. Quality: Texture: Very High Object: Very High Terrain: Very High Cloud: High Shadow: High Particle: High.

ARMA 3 ALPHA Failed To Start Game (unknown error) Steam
Terminal_Boy replied to calebb's topic in ARMA 3 - TROUBLESHOOTING
Are any of you running Zone Alarm? That was killing A3 before it started on my PC. Binned it and replaced with Comodo. -
What computing system do you have for the Arma 3 Beta?

Arma 3 Alpha crashing with Radeons
Terminal_Boy replied to d3lta's topic in ARMA 3 - TROUBLESHOOTING
to OP: How hot is your 7970 getting? They really don't like running past 65ºC in my experience. I had this issue with Arma 2 and DayZ with the standard GPU fan speed to ºC mapping as it keeps the fan speed low for too long. Using MSI Afterburner and remapping the fan speed to ramp fan RPM sooner worked for me. -
Check out this thread: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?147513-Uninstall-ZoneAlarm-if-Alpha-not-starting&p=2314884#post2314884 Comodo will be getting my business later today.

Video Memory Settings Causing Odd Behaviour On AMD 7870 2GHz
Terminal_Boy posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Hi, The Video Memory setting is behaving differently for Stable and latest Beta ARMA 2 OA using my Sapphire Radeon HD 7870 (2GHz Edition) since upgrading to 13.10 drivers and I'm wondering if any other AMD GPU users are seeing this too. Please note that I haven't tried rolling the drivers back to 12.10 to check this yet. My ArmA2 OA config file shows that ArrmA2 OA is correctly detecting the amount of VRAM my GPU has as it shows 2GB's worth of bytes when set to Default. However, this appears (looking at MSI Afterburner OSD in-game) to limit the VRAM used to around 500MB and drops my frame rate from 80+ FPS to 20+ FPS. Selecting Very High sets the VRAM in the config file to less than 2GB (can't remember exact value), but MSI Afterburner shows up to 1400MB of VRAM being used and I get frame rates above 80 FPS in Cherno during daylight. Any ideas?
