Your assumption is wrong (like your other opinions after all). :D Fixing bugs (with public bug-tracker) is something to "hide"? You're secretly adjusting the game without telling us as "business strategy"? Oh my... So, in your opinion a game in alpha is not a game? :O This IS exactly the moment to let everyone know what's wrong, or there won't be time to fix it (release time). The game is heavily bugged, and on the performance side there's so much to do with a very little time to release (assuming they are aiming for a 2013 release), what are you waiting? A miracle?
-
Fixing tremendous bugs and having users actually playing your game is now... a "strategy"? :O ArmA3 isn't a game? :O PS: this "troll" (as you're calling me) is actually running FOUR A3 servers (plus another two A2 servers), while one is currently the top most used A3 server (unfortunately it's wasteland.. I recognize), using his own money, so stop pretending to know who is who.. and why I am (we are) criticizing certain company "strategy".

Please make it public.. I would say. Point by point. Not by no-sense announcements... until then I see really no progress on the matters that counts. ---------- Post added at 18:36 ---------- Previous post was at 18:33 ---------- To find out they did nothing? No thanks. Aren't we here to tell them what to fix? Arma2 runs so and so on my system: I mean it should technically run at very high FPS considering the gfx, but it "only" runs at around 80fps ... while ArmA3 runs HORRIBLY on my system, especially in MP, and my CPU and GPU is not used at all.. they must fix the engine, this is why we're here to tell them (like they doesn't know it already): FIX the damn engine because this game is doing horribly (today). ---------- Post added at 18:39 ---------- Previous post was at 18:36 ---------- Alpha runs better than arma3? .. I think you're confused. Maybe you mean it runs better than ArmA2?... no it doesn't, and by a very large difference, unfortunately. Also, i'm not talking only about performance, i'm talking about many reasons that are contributing to have the users leaving the game, performance is only the biggest, but we have: cheaters, lacks of contents... not having fun in general.
-
They could concentrate to fix issues that most ppl are asking for, or at least by giving much more detailed information of what they are doing. At the moment I only see generic reports (most of them are written in a pure marketing language) with very little details. They could keep the interest high by providing (even little) more contents, making the whole experience a little exciting every week. They could speed-up certain additions: like RCON and BE to give to the admins better control of their servers and starting implementing an anti-cheat. There's many thing they could do to keep players "busy" while the game progresses.. but I only see minor bug fixes to be honest, while the major issues are still there untouched. Did you see any FPS improvement from the day1 in example? I did not.
-
Basically a suicide? Unfortunately they decided to suicide taking our money with them eheh.
-
This assumption is based on what? We can only hope they: 1) Will resolve the performance issue by the game launch; 2) There will be no more cheaters/hackers by the game launch; These, plus the lack of contents are the main reason of why today the users are dropping. So you say: "when the game is released...", we should wait that day to eventually discover that we was wrong? There won't be time to fix by then.
-
At the moment multiplayer is about: very poor FPS (almost unplayable if you don't set your view distance to like 800 meters), and too many cheaters. You can have some fun for a week or so, but then you get really bored. Well, you can count the number of users online each day to figure it out, he first week we were like 10k, today we're around 1k (and it's friday). The lack of contents doesn't help as well. Let's hope it will change when the game will be out later this year...
-
I can't believe that they didn't realized this BEFORE opening this alpha to the public. How's possible that none from the dev team didn't noticed a so big issue? And if they noticed it: why they didn't make it clear from the start? Were they hoping we wouldn't have noticed a problem that exists by 4 years already? This is even worse than those EA marketing strategy.
-
What are you talking about? I didn't opened a similar thread, and i don't see why this thread should be closed, you can see with your eyes the users falling (pls see the graphs, they aren't compiled by me), and we're discussing WHY they are falling and how to counter-fight it (assiming it is a problem). There's nothing to "censor" (neither i think that censor it would help anyone).
-
That was true for Arma2, when there was space to improve our CPU space, actually there's no more space and the future is ablut multi-threads (multi cores), the CPU speed won't increase beyond this (it's not convenient, and it would be stupid), so if they doesn't fix the current engine, this game will NEVER run fine, nor today neither in 5 years (there's chance that it do exactly the opposite, since the trend is less mhz and more cores).
-
Exactly because i do NOT hate this game, i'm here... together with other thousand arma fans that have eyes and a working brain to figure out that something is not not working. Me (we) don't want to wait the last minute (when the game will be released) to discover that it suffers the same problems of today (that are the same problem we discovered years ago witn ArmA2), instead we are here to ask the developers to fix the issues. I'm actually do you a favour remaining, since few ppl are so blinded by the "fanboysm" to not figure the issues. You should thank me instead, without ppl like us you'll be playing CoD today. ;)
-
Exact.. since the developers have more other ways of beta testing a product, when you decide to go public you cannot simply say: "it's alpha, you cannot complain".. coz ppl will ask you why the hell you decided to go on Steam if you recognize that the game isn't ready to hit the mass. :) Ppl we have aboard aren't beta-testers.. but they (we) are beta-testing while PLAYING, and to play you need to get fun.. coz we're not being paied, but the opposite! Plus what "contribution" you're talking about? Ppl are: bored of no contents, bored of a old engine that gives very bad performance, bored of cheaters... can you explain me what's exactly the "contribution" we should give? The only contribution i see is ppl abandoning the game because they see no progress.

[Continuing from THIS discussion] In the latest sitrep (or whatever they are called), we were reminded that Beta is still targeted for Q2. If you take a look at what Q2 is, you'll see that it goes from April - June (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_...r#Subdivisions). Another small hint to when it is coming out is listed on the Steam store page for ArmA 3 regarding Alpha Lite: 3 Alpha Lite Invites – Introduce your friends to Arma 3 by inviting them to the free invite-only Arma 3 Alpha Lite (available from March 14, 2013 until June 18, 2013) It has been previous mentioned that the Alpha Lite will be disabled before Beta release. My guesses is that the beta is aimed for somewhere between June 18th - June 30th. If you think about it, that's really not that far away. Stay patient fellow arma players, beta isn't that far away! ---------- Post added at 08:20 ---------- Previous post was at 08:19 ---------- That's the point.. and that's why there's a comment about performance and such every 3 other posts... because it is a MAJOR problem, but just a little buzzing.
-
Eventually none of who have spent the money on it have got it... except you and other 610 ppl. ;)
-
Right.. if only we was in a studio to QA our game, unfortunately (luckily) the game was on Steam, that is something different, but i won't discuss about this now.
-
Honestly? Nope, it's nowhere enough, neither in alpha *IF* you want to have some fun.. considering that in the moment i were typing, those 610 users were spreaded on 200 servers (do your counts), so the servers were you really had a chance to play and get some fun were in fact four, and all of them with a ping too high for me (AUS/US). So it's really affecting the playing atm... i dunno if in a month from now we still have those 600 plrs online, if we won't have more contents, less cheaters, and better performance.
-
I believe you're confusing the number of ppl that have pressed "play" on steam (they are neither calculated in real time), with the number of ppl playing the game online right now. You can see the number of ppl online by reading em on the gamespy announcement servers. When someone abandon a game, it's because of the game lacks. I don't want another niche arma to be honest. ---------- Post added at 10:43 ---------- Previous post was at 10:39 ---------- Yep.. but customers are strange animals, it will be like this: "hey did you see? Arma3 is out, with blablabal contents..."; the other guy: "isn't that game already on sale months ago? Naaa.. im gonna buy this new fresh thing". That's why it is important to maintain the hype high if you want to have success (sales success; coz whenever the current sale is ok, you can't expect to have all the potential customers buying the game right now).
-
Not sure what you're on about, there's 649 users in-game right now (April 18th 11:40 CET), they vary of course, in example in the evening (EU times) they are a little more (yesterday night they were around 1,100), but the point is that they are around the 10% of what we had few weeks ago, and they still falling (because of the above reason), at this rate we will have a very little number of users remaining, risking to loose all the hype around the game. More stats: Server with more than 40 ppl aboard: 1 Servers 20 ppl aboard: 20-39: 10 Servers with more than 10-19 ppl aboard: 11 The other servers with ppl playing in, have less than 10 ppl aboard, and 38 of them have only 1 user! I don't even count the number of servers with 0 ppl on em (they are a huge number.. there's more empty servers than users playing the game!). This is honestly depressing considering all the hype we had months ago while waiting for this game.. it looks like that even the arma hardcore players are loosing interest into this.

STEAM performance troubles and how mitigate them
WalkerDown replied to Dwarden's topic in ARMA 3 - TROUBLESHOOTING
What do you mean? That we cannot run our servers anymore? -
You have a predominant eye (depending of your brain), this is how you can aim with that eye while the other is aware, you don't need to have it "in focus", you only need to know what's happening around you, while the main eye is on the target.. this is possible with your eyes, with a 2D image in front of your eye at a fixed distance (2 centimeters?) is a whole different story. However... the brain get "used of.." .. the point is that if have a certain experience (years), you can't tell your brain to operate differently in a matter of minutes, so this could works after (several) years, not right out of the box. Yes it's attractive, and let you dream on what we will exprience in the future.. but it's not that the Oculus Rift is going to change the physics of the universe, it's just a step in the right direction! :)
-
It's cool but it won't give the same effect, at the day at least, again because of he distance. Normally when you aim with a optics you left the other eye open to be aware of the surrounding (this is true in the army; forget about the movies where you see ppl aiming with one eye closed!), this works in real life because your brain can concentrate on the aiming eye while the other is just survelling (movement perception), but with a monitor at the same distance i suspect it would be too distracting and you wouldn't be able to aim properly if not closing the eye. It could work at the night tho!
-
Where is it please? (I mean the std patch changelog.. not the DEV branch).
-
Normally (on monitors.. at cinema.. etc.) you use polarization, or any other technology to merge two images together (they will be separated by the viewer then), while Oculus Rift uses two separate images (stereoscopic), side by side, so while the first can be turned off, with the Oculus Rift you can't, you can only nullify the 3D effect, overlapping the two images (making em identically) but the result is not exactly like viewing a 2D image in real life (a monitor, a screen.. whatever), because they still two images, each per eye. For the same reason (to expand the concept) these 3D goggle cannot give you a complete 3D feel because of two reason: the parallax is constant and your pupils are always focused to the screens in the same position (in real life your eyes moves constantly, the do micromovements to stabilize the view, they also focuses the objects at different distances).. but i guess this is what we can have with the current technology, and i'm more than satisfied with it (hopefully.. my OR didn't come yet!).

In fact you're not supposed to "force" anything, you shouldn't use those switch at all if not for very specific usage (like running multiple clients/servers on a shared machine, etc.), when i said they doesn't do anything i'm referring to ppl forcing maxmem to 4096, maxvmem, cpucount to 4, maxthreads to 7.. etc. the do absolutely nothing.
