Iron Front Arma2CO Tank missions or campaign
ravenmorpheus posted a topic in IRON FRONT: LIBERATION 1944 - GENERAL
Hey all I've had Arma2 CO for a long while now (several years since 2010), although I don't really play it a lot as I'm not too keen on "modern" combat, and I have Iron Front 44 but didn't really find it all that great the only time I played through the SP German campaign. However just recently I found out IF44 can be converted fully to Arma 2 CO (and Arma 3 which I also have but only in a "lite version"). So I've decided to give IF44 another go and play it in Arma 2 CO. Apart from the main campaigns though I'm a little stuck for stuff to do, despite having looked at the site called Mission Repository, and I'm looking for some missions or extra campaigns. I'm also looking for any improvements that are available to the stock game. Can anyone here recommend me some missions or campaign(s) that have you playing as a tank (US or Germans preferred but I'll settle for Russian)? And can anyone here recommend me some stuff to download to improve the stock game (graphically primarily but I'm sure there's some gameplay elements I could think of to fix)? (I've tried WarMod and IF Rearmed but couldn't get them to work, kept getting errors and couldn't find solutions via web searches). Thank you all in advance. -
Shortcut parameters - not enough room
ravenmorpheus replied to ravenmorpheus's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Thanks, I'll make a batch file (I knew there was something like that but just couldn't remember). Unfortunately my copy isn't the Steam copy of Arma 2 so setting launch parameters that way won't work. Advice much appreciated though, just tried the batch file and it worked fine. -
Hello I just upgraded my video card to a nVidia from an ATI and previously I had run Arma 2 OA from a profile in ATI Tray Tools. I have the following startup parameters - -nosplash -maxmem=4096 -maxvram=1024 -cpuCount=4 -exthreads=7 -mod=@fallujah1_2;@ad_helos;@ONS-OA;@INKO;@mad_resh;@McTierOne;@SGW_Afghan;@mad_build;@PVT;@RAH66;@ou_air_beta3;@okt_NoBlur;@MCN_Aliabad;@JSRS1.4;@DFS_FPScounter;@CBA;@CBA_A2;@CBA_OA The problem I'm now having is that the desktop shortcut I'm using (normal windows one) doesn't seem to have enough room, it stops right at @CBA_A, missing off the 2 and the next bit, and thus the game won't start. Please someone advise me how I can resolve this? Thanks in advance.

Hello I'm signed up to the dev branch, but I'm wondering why on an almost daily basis recently, given that the game went Gold as I understand it, at least out of Alpha/Beta, not so long ago, I'm getting updates of at least 250mb each time? It's becoming a chore, I start Steam, and then an Arma 3 update starts, that update takes 10-20 minutes on my internet connection by which time I've lost enthusiasm for even starting the game!! I would turn updates off on Steam but I'm concerned that one day I'll want to play the game, the game will tell me I'm being forced to update, and I'll have to download GB of data which will take hours!?! It's bad enough that the SP campaign is being drip fed and thus BIS are relying on community content and MP to satisfy players, but add in the constant updates I'm seeing, the time I have to wait for them to complete, and I haven't even started the game in weeks, thus I'm really not getting my monies worth out of the game!?!?! Maybe I should shelve the game and come back in a year or so, but I really hope BIS do sort something out quicker than that so that I can actually start playing the game without being put off by lack of SP content or constant updates that leave me needing to find something else to play for 10-30 minutes.

AI squad mates won't get out of way of explosive charge
ravenmorpheus replied to ravenmorpheus's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Yeah no control over them at all at that stage of the mission. I managed to get lucky again by getting there early and setting off the explosives before anyone reached the area... -
AI squad mates won't get out of way of explosive charge
ravenmorpheus posted a topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Ok, I've done a search as per the rules, so moderators please do not give me another warning, this is a genuine question (as was my last) and I haven't found an answer. I'm having a problem in one of the the new challenges, Armed Assault (think that's the title of it), it's the one where you're called Kerry. I'm instructed to place explosives on vehicles by my squad leader... No problems doing that. However, when I come to touch off the bombs I am constantly failing the mission (so far, although I did get lucky on one try earlier but got killed later on) due to friendly fire because the dumb AI won't get out of the blast radius or take to hard cover. Is this just an issue I'm having? Is there a way to shout "fire in the hole" so that the AI takes cover? TIA for any help. -
Not sure if I've posted this in the correct sub-forum so apologies if I haven't. I was under the impression that the flight model from Take On Helicopters was to be implemented in Arma 3. However it seems to me that it hasn't (I play on Recruit at the moment btw). Is it just my perception of how the helicopters fly in Arma 3 or has the Take On Helicopters flight model not been implemented at all?

What computing system do you have for the Arma 3 Beta?
ravenmorpheus replied to Yett71's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
I can run most current games that I've tried at max settings with decent (50-60fps) framerates, mostly because they are console ports. Not the case in Arma III, nor Arma II/OA/ToH. My specs, added to the list, I seem to be at the lower end of specs, but I can't afford an upgrade to an i5 or i7 and a current GPU. :( AMD Phenom II x4 955 BE @3.2ghz Sapphire Radeon HD 5870 1GB 1 TB HD Samsung 7200RPM 8 GB 1300 mhz DDR3 RAM Windows 7 64bit Hoping for some optimisations to be made so that my current settings run better, rather than the "tough, upgrade" attitude most developers have. -
Black screen Arma 3 at game start up
ravenmorpheus replied to MASSKILLA's topic in ARMA 3 - TROUBLESHOOTING
CTRL+ALT+Delete out of the game, start task manager, then select the game again from the taskbar. Solves this issue for me. PITA as I have to do it every time, but it's at least a work around. -

ravenmorpheus replied to fabrizio_t's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
I am a recent convert to BIS products, I'm traditionally a Battlefield 3/Bad Company 2, Call of Duty or Medal of Honor single player mode player (totally rubbish at MP so I don't even bother with MP in Arma 2), but CoD and MoH have gone stale recently and I've played to death BF3/BC2 so I've been looking around for alternatives, I'm also not a great fan of the "modern warfare" type of setting. However, having bought Arma 2 Combined Ops and BAF DLC, along with Take On Helicopters, I am enjoying BIS's offerings, so far. Here's my initial observations of the Arma III alpha. Not too sure about the "future" setting of Arma III, too much like BIS are trying to compete with CoD Black Ops 2/CoD MW 3, but so far I generally like the Arma III alpha for what it is. What I don't like - 1. The framerate (discussed to death I'm sure). My framerate in Arma II/OA and ToH isn't what I'd call great, average of about 25-35 fps in general during the Harvest Red campaign (40-60 fps in the Littlebird scenario though, probably due to it being a flying mission with minimal stuff on the map) and a little less on ToH (average 25 fps over Seattle). But those games are at least reasonably playable. My rig is as follows - AMD Phenom II x4 955 BE @3.2ghz Sapphire Radeon HD 5870 1GB 1 TB HD Samsung 7200RPM 8 GB 1300 mhz DDR3 RAM Windows 7 64bit My settings for Arma III - http://imageshack.us/a/img18/7793/arma32013032915243329.jpg (141 kB) http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/1546/arma32013032915242856.jpg (152 kB) I tried the "Autodetect" feature but that set the settings higher than what I've set, so given the FPS drop I would have had if I'd gone with the "Autodetect" settings I'd say that feature is slightly broken... I'm also using these launch paramaeters, taken from my Arma 2/OA install, not sure if they truly make a significant difference though - -nosplash -maxmem=4096 -maxvram=1024 -cpuCount=4 -exthreads=7 I'm hoping the game is better optimised come the beta, and final releases, but given Arma 2 never was optimised very well I'm not holding out on that. However I've played through all the showcases and the infantry/scuba/vehicle showcases gave me playable framerates of about 25-30 fps on average, so it's no worse than Arma 2/OA. The Helicopter showcase was a little worse at times as I recall but still playable. The game looks great even on the slightly average/low (in my opinion) settings I'm using however, so apart from the framerate issues I'm satisfied with the graphics so far. 2. The fictional elements so far. Such as it being set in 2035. A fictional island. Fictional names for one or two of the weapons, in particular the Walther P99. As far as the weapon names go I realise there are probably licensing issues, but I hope they are resolved soon and proper names are attached to the weapons. As for the island being fictional, just a personal thing but I'm getting tired of seeing fictional countries, islands, cities, towns etc. I realise there would probably be an "international incident" if say BIS released a game based in Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran etc. (although CoD MW3 seems to have gotten away with it) but personally I'd say publish and be damned. The "future" setting is also another bugbear, as said above it smacks of BIS trying to copy or keep up with CoD BO II/MW3. If BIS can't do a current conflict era setting how about choosing historical settings, such as Vietnam (very underdone imo), anything but a setting in the future would be great from this gamers pov. 3. The use of Steam. I don't like it as a DRM measure because it means I end up with tons of games I can't sell on or give to friends when I'm done with them, even if I could (PC 2nd games market has been dead for a long while though) and I don't like it because Steam often has problems - I've frequently had problems where Steam has tried to update itself and just wouldn't and I've had to go to safe mode with networking just to get it to update. I've also heard about the problems Arma 2 owners had with their Steam version... 4. Just a matter of preference really but I don't like the HUD for the helicopters so far. I'd like to see the virtual instruments panel that ToH has when flying a helicopter in Arma 3. I only have a 21" monitor (which sits about 2-3ft away and doubles as my TV) and the resolution I use isn't good enough to see/read the instruments in the cockpit properly and I find the cockpit view rather awkward at times anyway, so I find that overlay in ToH very helpful. 5. Stealth seems redundant so far. I like the fact that in Arma 2/OA it appears the AI are sensitive to the noise you make and that creeping around in walk mode or on your belly reduces noise levels and thus allows you to get the drop on AI (it makes the tank destroying scenario in Arma 2/OA really epic). In the Scuba mission however this didn't seem to be the case, nor in the infantry mission where I tried to creep up on the mortar spotters. Hopefully that gets fixed. Things I like (I can probably think of more but this is what springs to mind at the moment) - 1. Love the helicopter available. although I'm a little confused over the missile (dagr?) targetting system and I don't seem to be able to aim them very well, nor the machine gun - it would help if the co-pilot acted as the gunner. Correct me if I'm wrong but the flight model from ToH seems to be being used, if not the flight model seems to be improved over that used in Arma 2/OA. I can't fly well though, I'm rubbish at it, but I do enjoy it. I hope to see many many many more helicopters in the game. 2. PIP in the vehicle showcase - very nice detail. The rear facing camera in the driver position (took me a moment to work out it was rear facing) and the gunner FLIR camera are a bit laggy but that's probably just my rig and the low-ish FPS I get, hopefully optimisations can be made with that... The PIP in the Infantry showcase was a little confusing (saw the two spotters, still couldn't tell where they were and I had to look at the map) and rather pointless IMO but perhaps that's just the way it was used in the scenario and can be better implemented from an infantry perspective. 3. Scuba - another nice addition. I found in that mission you can even kill the turtles whilst underwater. Lol. Nice attention to detail. -
Flight stick not as responsive as I'd like...
ravenmorpheus replied to ravenmorpheus's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - TROUBLESHOOTING
Thanks BeePee. My deadzones are all at 0, and that's the first thing I checked. I've tried the values in the combo boxes, and 1.2 seems to be the best, or least twitchy, at least when combined with least tension on the stick the deadzone feeling isn't so great. But the stick still seems like rubbish. I have no problems taking off, or achieving forward flight and generally flying around in the air at speed, but when it comes to hovering and then landing I spend more time flying sideways, backwards, or forwards (quite often at speeds like 20mph or more) away from where I want to land. I have to engage auto hover most of the time to achieve a decent landing. And I'm only playing the game on Trainee difficulty. I'm guessing it's either me just being a bad pilot or the stick isn't suited to ToH or it's caused by input lag caused by low frame rates (I get on average 25fps over Seattle, often as low as 15fps). I've played games like IL2 with the same stick and I don't recall any problems with it, but I'm not all that good at that either. I think I'll just buy a second hand Saitek X45, they're fairly cheap now (£35 on ebay), and see if I get on any better with that. -
Flight stick not as responsive as I'd like...
ravenmorpheus replied to ravenmorpheus's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - TROUBLESHOOTING
Thanks. I've tried adjusting those horizontal columns to alter sensitivity. It doesn't help, reducing them makes the stick even less responsive and increasing them makes the stick too twitchy but still with what seems to be a deadzone. I've no problem with the throttle, apart from it's stiffness around the middle, but that's a design flaw with the TM T Flight Hotas X, just the stick seeming to have a deadzone and being rather inaccurate - I have to push it further than I want to get any movement (even on default sensitivity/curves) and that then causes me to over correct. I think I'm probably better off sticking with my Xbox 360 gamepad until I can get hold of a better HOTAS, although I don't recall having similar problems when I've played games such as IL2 1946. -
Flight stick not as responsive as I'd like...
ravenmorpheus posted a topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - TROUBLESHOOTING
Hey there I'm trying to use my Thrustmaster T Flight Hotas X in ToH, whilst it's fine for the most part it doesn't seem as responsive as I'd like. I've loosened the tensioner at the bottom of the stick so it's as loose as possible, but I still get what seems like a deadzone. I've tried setting the curves to default in the controller options (I'm not entirely sure I understand that screen), and I've also tried increasing the axis sensitivities but increasing the sensitivity just makes it more twitchy and doesn't really help with the deadzone issue. As it is currently I can fly a Heli OK in forward flight, but when it comes to things like landing I spend ages trying to do it because the stick causes me to over-do the movements and instead of hovering in place I end up drifting sideways or backwards. I actually find using an Xbox 360 gamepad with XBCD360 drivers installed a whole lot easier (I still take ages to land and I over adjust, causing me to drift sideways/backwards when I don't want to, but it's no where near as bad as with the T Flight HOTAS). Is there anyway within the game to get the Thrustmaster T Flight Hotas X to be more accurate in it's control of the Heli's or should I invest in a better stick for ToH (I've been eyeing up seconds hand Saitek X45's)? Many thanks in advance for any help on this. -
Installing Arma 2 and OA twice so that I can run two different versions?
ravenmorpheus posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Hello Apologies if I've missed something, I have done a search here and also I've been googling for answers but I cannot find anything helpful. I recently bought the BAF expansion for Arma 2/OA but I have found that a custom campaign I have (Operation Iron Swarm) no longer works when I try to revert to a save (i.e. load a save I made 5 minutes ago), I get an error along the lines of "you cannot play edit this mission... ...deleted ca_mission_baf_templates_", I'm not sure but I suspect this will also be the case with a couple of other custom campaigns I've downloaded. So, I thought about installing Arma 2/OA again but as a 2nd copy, so that I have a copy without the BAF expansion which has caused this problem because all the custom campaigns and other modded content I have was working fine prior to installing the BAF expansion. Is it possible to do this, and if not is there any other way I can resolve this issue? Many thanks in advance. -
Light helicopter LCD screen upgrade - how does it work?
ravenmorpheus posted a topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - GENERAL
Hello Recently upgraded the light helicopter in career mode to have the LCD screen and also the FLIR and Camera. But I don't quite understand how (or when) they work. The LCD screen is always black, for example. I've read the thread about PIP use and discussion, but I find that it doesn't really answer my question (and neither do any threads I've found via the search function) - http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?128440-PiP-Use-and-Discussion-Poll So, now that I've upgraded the Light helicopter in career mode to have FLIR, the LCD screen, and Camera how and when do I get them to work? EDIT - Nevermind. I'm assuming they are the same as the screens in the Merlin and Huey, which I've just noticed only work on set scripted events as described in that thread. Real shame you can't turn them on and off at will during free flight. Also I noticed in my TakeOnH.cfg file that the PiPEnabled= variable was set to 0, even though in the game I have PIP set to Very Low (sometimes, I'm tweaking settings at the mo) and I can see the mirror on the Light helicopter skids working - should that variable be set to 1? Thanks in advance.
