Basicly Tonic thinks civilian weapons shouldnt save, so you need to edit the mission a bit to make this happen. What I did is copy the way cop saves, and edit it to my needs to make weapons save for civs aswell.

Look at the little island west of Pyrgos.. Sounds like you dont have it set to "Regular"

Usually yes, but life_server is serverside only :-/

That thread didnt really answer my question.. All it offered was a "hacky" way of doing it. Surely I must be able to open the mapfile somehow?

I did this too. I get it opened, but it doesnt look like chernarus. And ConvertWRP complaints about missing 3pbo files or something.
