I think Chortles understands the direction I'm coming from. In ArmA, you get mil-sim combat, but it's all ranged. How about some milsim CQB? It exists. It actually happens. Just look at Iraq/Afghanistan. There's room for more than just one style of play.
-
I'm glad someone understands what I'm trying to say.
-
Bless your heart. Now, hopefully, I'll be able to hit something at 50 meters! My marksmanship is embarrassing.
-
I definitely think there would be a market for CQB, say Battlefield 3 style. The thing holding it back is the mouse controls. I was reading about them being a bit wonkey in another thread. Anyway, the grizzled veterans could still play their way, and the Battlefield crowd could have something to draw them in (CQB) and then expand from that, sort of how people started with DayZ and then expanded in to all of ArmA2.

I created two addition riflemen, named t2 and t3, and added them to the targets list like this: nul=[[t1,t2,t3],"run:FULL","move:10","defdist:50"] execVM "targetrange.sqf" However, they aren't running. A single target will walk while two stand, and then all three sort of walk in formation, then back to just one walking, and so on. How can I get them all running back and forth? Also, is there a way to keep the infinite ammo (magazines), but to change it so that they're not bottomless (auto instant reload)?

I looked through a few pages of the User Missions section of the forum and didn't see what I was looking for. I'm trying to find something sort of like the in game Armory (you can choose any weapon/vehicle) and then you can go to a target range and practice using it. The Armory is sort of okay for this, but the missions it assigns to you are lack-luster and you can't really use them to develop skill/marksmanship ability with a weapon. Essentially a training scenario. Even something like the shooting range the campaign uses to train you, but you can choose a weapon. I apologize if this has been brought up before. I did some poking through and didn't see what I was looking for. Thanks, Taylor.

Weapons training scenario?

I have Combined Operations. I'll see if I can't find the USA showcase. Thanks for tip! -

Thank you! I'll take a look at that video and see if it piques my interest. -
Weapons training scenario?

I'm not at all familiar with the editor. It would take me far longer than 60 seconds to learn how to use it. Furthermore, I am well aware ArmA's main feature is its user generated content, both single- and mutli-player, which is why I assumed something like this already existed. Lo and behold, it does! (thanks Chortles!) Finally, I didn't mention anything about DayZ. Not every new registration to these forums is a brain dead zombie killing wannabe whose sole intention is to spite you with their very existence. With that said, I've played both Combined Operations and the DayZ mod, and they both have their merits. You might climb off your pedestal long enough to realize that I'm not here to soil, rape, and pillage your virgin multiplayer experience with my filthy DayZ tainted hands. Thank you very much for the helpful response and the lack of condescension the previous poster was unable to muster. I believe this is exactly what I'm looking for. Regards, Taylor -
Are you going to upgrade because of ARMA 3?
Taylor422 replied to Resilient's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Thank you all for the information. And, yes, I'm planning on a new "from the ground up" rig. -
If you haven't completed the campaign up to Bitter Chill, you'd best skip over this - plot spoilers abound. ---------- Post added at 00:19 ---------- Previous post was at 23:03 ---------- I have resolved the issue. I was in game, and noticed that when you order for scan horizon they all stop moving. I issued a stop command and then a regroup command and got everyone moving again.

I haven't been keeping up with CPUs since Sandy Bridge released. Is the i5-2500 still the de-facto standard, or has it been replaced by an Ivy Bridge series chip? Also, why would you go with LGA 2011 instead of LGA 1055? From my understanding any perceived gains in gaming performance are questionable at best. My rig is starting to show its age, so I need to start gathering knowledge again. -
Stalker 2, it's not over until the fat weapon seller sings!!!
Taylor422 replied to That guy's topic in OFFTOPIC - Games & Gaming
I spent about 100 hours playing Call of Pripyat unmodded, I enjoyed it. It takes the same sort of patience that ArmA does, I feel. I hope that another STALKER game is published one way or another, and that it meets the standards we all hope for. -
What's the minimum you have to do in Red Harvest Manhattan?
Taylor422 replied to -Anti-'s topic in ARMA 2 & OA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
If you find your vehicle damaged, there is a repair truck at the airfield in the northern end of the map. You can also find fuel/ammo trucks there and at FOB Manhattan. -
I right click to bring up the optical sight, and then hold the RMB to zoom. Using the M4A1 CCO and the M4A1 Holo, both un-suppressed.

Good evening, everyone. I'm a new player to ArmA and I wanted to introduce myself to the community. I first heard of ArmA not too long ago when the Day Z mod was being hyped up. I was able to purchase ArmA 2: Combined Operations off of Steam for $18 during their summer sale. I had played Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising previously and had not been impressed, so I was a little weary. I've progressed as far as completing " Manhattan " and so far I have to say I'm enjoying myself. The game is definitely a little buggy, and it takes some serious dedication (and forum search skills!) to get through, but I believe it's worth it. I read a post hear describing it as such: " she's a cruel mistress, it's like she hits you but you can't stay away ". I find that particularly telling. Anyhow, I just wanted to stop by and give a big thank you to the forum posters who have left answers in the past, without which, I likely never would have completed mission " Razor Team ". I look forward to multiplayer after I complete the campaign (I like the milsim/"tacticool" aspect), and I hope someone out there is willing to take pity on the new guy and teach me a thing or two. As a side note, I still haven't downloaded DayZ. Combined Operations is fine! Take care, Taylor422

On the topic of mouse controls, I would like to inquire as to what you all are using and what your settings are.. I have a Razer Mamba with acceleration set to 5 of 10 and DPI at 2800. I can't hit anything past 75 meters with a red dot M4. Do I need to turn down the DPI, tweak game settings, or just practice more? Thanks.
