  1. I think your focus is wrong. It's not the digital aspect that's the problem, it's the color scheme. The multiple color digital camos the Marines use are awesome. I agree with the problem behind the ACU's, they are too light for the forest, and not tan enough for the desert. Pretty much they don't blend in anywhere...

Too much muzzle flash and reload animations?

Not at all related to why I asked that. This is a quote from the post: "(standard piece on all the military ARs & MGs)" Attention on the word "standard." ---------- Post added at 20:39 ---------- Previous post was at 20:37 ---------- Except I'm not only going by what I see in videos. Notice the video I posted was of ME shooting at night, and I can vouch that the amount of flash you see in that video is pretty much exactly what I saw while shooting it...

Uh, which country's military uses that kind of muzzle device standard on their rifles??? Because I can tell you that this is pretty close to what the US military puts on their's: http://media.midwayusa.com/productimages/medium/343/343064.jpg

Yah, I know I can change the buttstock on it, but then I'd have to have them duracoat it to match, lol. :-D You know, when I have the money, I would actually do that...

Yah, definitely bigger than an AR with no flash hider. I wonder if there's a difference between eastern and western weapons in that department... ---------- Post added at 06:36 ---------- Previous post was at 06:25 ---------- I love mine, was kind of costly because I went all out and upgraded EVERYTHING, but I think it was worth it. The only thing I regret is that a few months after I got mine, they finally added a folding stock that also adjustable for length of pull. Man, I wanted that feature but it wasn't available when I ordered mine. But other than that, I basically just said yes to every upgrade possible to it. It has the speed trigger, the quad-rail handguard with a continuous rail on top, para model with the folding stock and the "sand cuts" on the bolt carrier, phantom flash hider, and I had them duracoat the whole thing. I had money back then and just felt like splurging, lol. Hey, girls buy overpriced purses and shoes, I bought high-end custom rifles and handguns, lol. http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h12/demon_mustang/dsa_sa58-02.jpg http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h12/demon_mustang/dsa_sa58-03.jpg

Oh, and before there is any confusion, I'm sure you know the difference, but maybe others might not, but the SA58 I'm shooting is a civilian designation and isn't related to the SA 58 or VZ 58 you're referring to. Mine is like a civilian version of the FN FAL.

Probably a good idea to not mess with the flash hider. But anyway, thanks for those pics. Very informative. I've also found my video of my night shoot, but too lazy to piece them together into a video that's not full of parts where we're just getting ready. Apparently the person shooting the video pretty much shot everything, lol. ---------- Post added at 16:36 ---------- Previous post was at 16:16 ---------- Alright, alright, I stopped being lazy, I pieced together two clips of a few friends of mine and I shooting at night. The light you see downrange is from my truck's headlights. It was completely dark where we were. The guy on the very right is me, I'm shooting a DSA SA58 with a Phantom flash hider. The guy to my left is shooting a Springfield M1A with the standard flash hider, and the guy to his left is shooting an AR15 and I honestly cannot remember what muzzle device he is using. And I have no idea why it was shooting BLUE muzzle flash... His barrel length is 16" But as you can see, not a whole lot of muzzle flash. And before you say it's just the camera, that's exactly how much muzzle flash I remember seeing while I was shooting too, I know it wasn't some big ball of flame that destroyed my night vision and obstructed my view, I can tell you that much. And I'm sorry I don't have anyone without a muzzle device, but I do believe from the gameplay video that the weapon does appear to have some sort of muzzle device, so I think this is a fair comparison. Not to mention, my SA58 and the M1A are both firing 7.62x51mm rounds... http://s60.photobucket.com/albums/h12/demon_mustang/?action=view&current=nightshooting.mp4

Can still go by memory. Actually most of my videos come out almost exactly how I see it in real life in terms of the amount of muzzle flash. I think you guys underestimate how long the flash stays for. I shoot at 30fps and there's usually no difference between what I remember seeing and what I see when I play the video back. I looked a little for my video of me firing the FAL (SA58) at night, I'll look more today. A lot of folders to look through, lol.

Too much muzzle flash and reload animations?

Phew, so I don't feel so bad anymore, lol. I've been shooting for about 20 years now, but have to admit the last year or more I haven't really gone to the range much. Between not having a lot of spare time and not having a lot of spare money for ammo and range fees, I just haven't found the time. But recently I took my 870 out to the range, bought a bunch of 2 3/4" 00-buck shot and 3" magnum 000-buck shots with me. And holy crap, the 3" magnums kicked my ass. Normally I square-off with the target, but with the 3" magnums I just HAD to put my right foot back a little because it was literally pushing me backwards when I was squaring my feet off with the target, lol. It's amazing how much of a difference that little bit of charge makes because the 2 3/4" 00-buck rounds were easy to fire... And yes, my shoulder was a bit sore after shooting off a few boxes of 3" magnums. I actually thought about just not shooting them anymore, but then was thinking what I'll do with the rest of the 3" rounds if I don't shoot them, lol. :-D

Thanks for your input. Give your 870 a try with 3" magnums. Those give a muzzle flash at night. But not as bright or as big as in this game still. Just a quick orange ball and that's it.

Too much muzzle flash and reload animations?

To "one-up" the caliber issue, I've fired my DSA SA58 (7.62x51mm) with a 16" barrel and a Phantom Flash Hider at night time and don't remember much of anything in terms of muzzle flash... I might have a video of it somewhere. Bare with me, I'll look for it when I get home and will try to post it.

You also have to consider the fact that those videos' sole intention is to show off muzzle flash. You don't know if they're using blanks (which has more muzzle flash for show) or special ammo that's meant to create more flash. The reason why I doubt it is because I've fired my friend's AR15 without a muzzle device (mine has a Vortex Flash hider) with standard military (Lake City Green tip) ammo and a 16" barrel and I don't remember muzzle flash like that at all. The other video of the comparisons of muzzle devices, their intention was not to show off "cool" muzzle flash, but to realistically compare how muzzle devices affect the amount of muzzle flash you see. They were careful to check downrange every time even though they are most likely the only two people there which suggests to me that they are using live ammo to conduct those tests. These "show off" videos, they will do anything to get the views, including using special ammo or using blanks just to get the effect they want. ---------- Post added at 14:06 ---------- Previous post was at 14:01 ---------- Wow, as much of an idiot as he is for video taping himself doing those stupid things, I think this video definitely proves a point. Even with NVG's the flash is nowhere near what we see in the game. And those NVG's pick up on even the slightest amount of light. So with the naked eye without the NVG's I bet you probably wouldn't have noticed much of anything. I mean, clearly this video using all standard equipment and the video where they were testing out muzzle devices, are much more credible in showing how it looks in the real world than videos people shot to show off the "cool" muzzle flash of their weapons...

Ok, I don't doubt that I might have. But can you please just tell me what that is?

Too much muzzle flash and reload animations?

Thanks for the response, and I definitely do understand that. But if you watch that video, the weapon they used without any muzzle device was a Bushmaster AR15 with a 16" barrel. That fires the same caliber ammo as the military M16 and M4, and the M16 has a LONGER barrel than the AR15 and the M4 is about 1.5" shorter. So it's actually a very nice in-between size that can closely represent either weapon. And even with absolutely no muzzle device in a weapon of comparable barrel length, identical gas impingement system, firing similar ammo, in a pitch black setting (the setting in the game is somewhat lit, which should actually hide some of the flash) and in that real-world setting, the muzzle flash appeared to only be about 4-6" past the end of the muzzle and wasn't even really bright. While in the game, that weapon appears to have a muzzle device on it if you look real closely, yet the muzzle flash is an incredible ball of fire a good 12-16" past the muzzle and is bright enough to light everyone up around it. I honestly believe that they should probably think about decreasing the muzzle flash in the game to be less like the movies and more like the real life. That's just my opinion though based on the input I've heard and seen from you guys. Thanks. :-) ---------- Post added at 11:59 ---------- Previous post was at 11:50 ---------- Actually, when it's dark the camera typically automatically opens up the aperture to it's widest open setting. But even putting those things into consideration, if you watch the gameplay demo, it's not completely dark, there are actually plenty of lights around the character. So technically speaking, the amount of visible flash should actually be less than in a darker situation. Notice in the youtube video, they had to use their flashlights to make sure there wasn't anything or anyone downrange. It could have been a moonless night where it actually was too dark even for our eyes to adjust. Remember, we have fairly poor night-vision compared to other animals in the animal kingdom. But if the flash was as big and bright as it was in the gameplay demo, even darkened a little it would still be far more visible than what was shown in the real-world youtube demo. We're not talking about the difference between a 10" muzzle flash and a 12" muzzle flash, we're talking about between a 6" muzzle flash and one that might exceed 16". I think that's quite a bit of difference that even a camera with its exposure settings a little too low could not make. Especially if the flash should have been big enough to be considered a light source for the camera to pick up... ---------- Post added at 12:01 ---------- Previous post was at 11:59 ---------- Your explanation was spot on. I was just making the point that it appeared as if he reloaded in the middle of a magazine (with a round still in the chamber) but the reload animation still showed him manipulating some sort of bolt catch device. And my other concern about that is that it appears like the bolt release that he manipulates in the game was on the right (as in opposite of left) side of the weapon instead of on the left side of the weapon where it should be...

Too much muzzle flash and reload animations?

I think according to this video, there definitely is too much muzzle flash in the game. Even with NO muzzle device the muzzle flash is significantly less than in the game...
