ArmaHolic ArmA 2 Optimization
Metal_Izanagi replied to Fox '09's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Well, I seem to have fixed whatever the problem was...a reboot later and I'm running textures at High, everything else at normal or in the case of stuff I don't need like Anisotropic, off. My GPU isn't too happy, hitting the 56C mark, but it can handle it. -
ArmaHolic ArmA 2 Optimization

I've tried pretty much every fix in this thread, disabled AA, lowered view distance to around 1000, left no stone unturned, and /still/ this game chugs along like some sort of sad step-brother to other games that run perfectly on my hardware. I've detailed exactly what I've tried doing in another thread, but seeing a post in here saying that the fixes in this thread are useless because of the latest patches made me have to come here to say this: That's a lie. While the fixes might not /do/ much anymore compared to what they might have done in the past, they're still a lot better than just trusting BI to fix the optimization issues themselves. Pretty obvious from the amount of issues almost every user seems to have that this game was way ahead of its time, in the worst way possible. It might be nice to say "Hey, we made a really realistic simulator!" but it's pointless when it runs like crap on all but the most ridiculous hardware setups. -
Tried multiple solutions; still getting unplayable FPS and low-quality visuals

System specs: EVGA Nvidia GTX 550 TI AMD AM2 dual-core processor, 3.0 Ghz 4 GB RAM Windows 7 I'm running the latest drivers from EVGA for my GPU, have followed the instructions in the common FAQ threads, such as disabling anisotropic filtering in the Nvidia control panel, etc. Even started running the beta, with absolutely no increase in FPS. I haven't checked exactly how many FPS I'm getting, because I'd rather not have another tool taking up even more memory while I try to get this thing into a playable form. Settings in the OA/Combined Ops advanced menu are: Visibility: 3000 Resolution(both variables): 1600x900(Native is 1920x1080, lowering the res seems to have not helped at all Post-Processing: Disabled Texture Quality: High Video Memory: Default Anisotropic Filtering: Disabled Vsync: Disabled Everything else is set to normal, even HDR, which I would rather not even have active, considering the current state the game runs in, but I can only lower it to "normal". I refuse to turn shadows off, because it makes the entire game look even more disgusting than it already looks with these settings. I used to run this on an EVGA Nvidia Geforce 9500 GT, and it ran pretty well, on higher settings than I currently have. As it is, the game looks bad, runs bad, and is just overall an unplayable mess. I've no idea what's going on at this point, why it would run this badly on my system, or how it's running so much worse on a better card than I originally had. Someone on the Steam forums suggested I delete my .cfg files, and let the game generate new ones, which I did. That got me a tiny increase in performance, but the game is still running so bad that I'm getting sick of it, and am starting to feel that DayZ might not be worth the trouble of figuring out what random setting I haven't ticked the exact way the game needs it to run at a decent pace. Any help would be much-appreciated, but please, don't give me the newbie treatment by suggesting I check for background processes, run EVGA Precision to boost it a bit, etc. I'm doing all of that, I'm not new to troubleshooting for software on my PC. A couple of "new" tweaks I'm trying are GameBooster, and some of the seemingly-minor tweaks in the Armaholic Optimization thread. Will report any successes with that. Not trying to rip on the game here, because I can tell BI and the community work hard on making it both realistic and fun, but wow, this is a different beast than most games, when it comes to making it run well. Update: So, I've tried messing with every setting I can see in the Video Settings menu. No combination of any of the available options has been able to change a damn thing. Doesn't matter if I set the resolution to 1920x1080, or 1024x768. Doesn't matter if I have Shadows set to High, or even Disabled, or any other setting for that matter. This game just runs as a stuttering mess, constantly, and I can't seem to change that. Just to see if anything changed, I even dropped the resolution down to 800x600. The result was everything looking like a muddy mess of jagged textures, and a total gain of maybe 2 FPS. What is /with/ this game? Is my hardware just incapable of running this game? Edit: Somehow, things worked themselves out. The game runs fine at settings the game says are "Very High" This...seems to happen a lot. Game doesn't work for me, I follow a bunch of leads, mostly community-done stuff, and suddenly it works after a reboot or something. Erm...thanks, I think. >_<
