  1. I've added soldiers to team red and team green. Just a little mission in the editor to learn to order my teams around. After putting my soldiers on the 2 teams, I select red or green with shift+f1/f2, I can see they are selected, I can get them to move, but if I select for example team green and order them into a wedge formation with 8 menu they don't seem to do anything, I then order them to move somewhere to check if they obey the formation order, but they just run over there in no specific formation and I'd like my teams to be in a formation depending on their task, moving fast somewhere go in a column, the other team is attacking enemy in front of them so I'd like them in line formation etc.. Many times when I issue an order my character doesn't say anything, and my teams don't say anything in reply, I get the text messages in the bottom stating they are doing it and my order, so they are carried out, just get no audible acknowledgements. Hmm, been messing around some more, it seems there can only be one formation order? No matter what team I select and issue a formation order, all teams go into that formation and they only seem to do it if they are following me, not when ordered around on their own. So it's not possible to have one team in line formation and another in wedge formation and order them to different positions where those formations will have a tactical advantage?
  2. I've been playing around with ArmA2 AO and I'm loving it so far, seems to be exactly what I've been looking for. As far as I can tell, (except for the DayZ mod that a million servers is running) AO combined + ACE is the most popular combo? I've downloaded Six updater and installed everything via that, and when I look in the server browser running that combo there's not many servers with players, and what servers that are full are mostly coop. I'd rather not play against AI, I want to play against players that can think, once you learn how AI works it's just shooting fish in a barrel. I'm not going online for a while yet, as I still have lots to learn before I think I'm useful, but when I do I'd like to play against real people, not with them against a bunch of predictable bots. Is that the state of online right now? Just coop? It seems to me that ArmA2 is probably one of the best environments I have seen with potential for some epic rounds against real humans on each side. Or maybe the Six updater server browser is not showing all servers? I've looked on gametracker, not many servers there either. Is there perhaps a better server browser that will show a better picture of the online population? Or is there other mod combos where more players are playing against eachother? I don't care if I have to install some other stuff, just want to play vs. other humans. Do I need to find a community that plays vs. humans? Sorry if these are newbie questions, I've searched and couldn't find much on the subject.
  3. I play on a large plasma (60") and the command menus are all the way to the sides of the screen so I have to turn my head a lot just to see them=headache time. (Using TrackIR at the same time this adds to the problem) Is there any way to move the menus/hud elements?

    trueuser_igui_actionmenu.pbo is in there. That's what's strange because the mod is definitely active (Installed in main app dir, then activated via shortcut mod cmd line), I have different icons at the bottom, different xhairs etc.. but when I hit the keys to bring up the menus they are still to the side and not centered. Perhaps I misunderstood, but I got the impression that the various menus would be centered instead of to the side as I have a hard time looking at them playing on a huge screen. I'm getting the number combos down anyhow, many of the most used ones I can just tap out by now without thinking much about it, but the main spacebar menu is always changing so I still have to keep a watch on that. Imagine having to look almost over your shoulder just to see the side menus while keeping an eye on what you're aiming at :) Perhaps it's time to cook up some good old GlovePIE voice commands, I've used that a lot when playing racing sims.

    Sitting to close to the TV being bad for the eyes is a myth, it was somewhat true a very long time ago when a TV emitted a small amount of radiation, but that's a non issue with flatscreen monitors of today. It could also be a problem with old CRT screens running at to low refresh rates, around 60 hrz. I remember that because I had friends that didn't change their refresh rate back then from the default 60, 10 minutes staring at that and it was headache time. Looking at the screen from the side of my eyes I could see the screen flickering because human vision is more sensitive at the side of the eyes (To be more aware of predators, evolution and all that) It's when you sit at a screen to long it causes strain and is bad, but that's not the screen, it would cause strain if you were reading a book to long. I think we have a while to go before stuff like the 3D glasses becomes usable for long sessions, I've read many complaints about people getting headaches using those things. The only thing that annoys me a bit about my plasma tv is that it gets HOT, it's like sitting in front of a radiator, esp. if the image is bright white, like the forums, it's almost burning if it sits to long.

    Ok so I've installed the @TrueUser mod, it's doing something (Changed hud look, colors, new xhair etc..) but the menus are still the same place. I've not used mods a lot but I'm guessing I can change the options for @TrueUser somehow I just don't know where. Is there some config file I need to change or ingame console? The readme for the mod only showed how to install and assumed the user knew the rest :(

    Bigger for me means more immersion as most of my view is taken up by the screen. For example flying choppers on 60" with TrackIR is awesome, it's just not the same on a smaller screen. Checking out Truemods, thanks.

I'm just playing around with the editor creating myself a little vehicle training map (and having lots of fun in the process I might add) When I place more than one chopper and test, there's a crew inside so I can't use them, and I'm just put into the first chopper I placed. I've tried different options in the object properties dialog but I can't get rid of the crews so I can fly myself. I did search, but ehh, didn't quite know what to search for so it didn't bring up anything useful. btw, have anyone created something like a "editing for dummies" tutorial that takes you through basic editing tasks, placing things, making things work step by step? I'm sure this is not the only obstacle I'm gonna run into so having some kind of step by step tutorial would be better than me littering the forums with stupid questions :D

I've been flying the choppers, getting better at it, but it's hard to land with confidence because I can't get analog throttle to work, it seems to just be working in an extremely narrow range above 50% so finding the right amount for slow decent is like a range of a millimeter, so it ends up just feeling like on/off. If there any way I can adjust this some way? I tried going into controllers on the controls dialog and adjusted them but it doesn't seem to make much of a difference. I have an x52 pro, anyone got it working right? Right now I've just bound the analog thrust to one of my pedals so when I'm landing I can just descent and then keep tapping it to control the speed of descent but I'd much rather find some way to control the throttle properly.
  12. Got it figured out now after reading a million threads. Just in case this helps someone else.. Grab DXTweak from here: http://www.wingmanteam.com/latest_software/gadgets.htm#DX%20Tweak%202 Now set the axis you use for throttle so center and max are the same values. I use my ECCI racing pedals for throttle, so for me it was 0-1023-1023 (Hidef USB) And then bind the analog thrust to that axis. Voila, now I can go down fast, incrementally change the speed of descent, hover and all that, flying choppers is 100 times better. There was another solution using PPJoy and GlovePIE, but if you are on 64bit windows you have to go through a nightmare because the PPJoy drivers are not signed and put windows in test mode everytime you boot, the above is much easier.

I had some problems with lots of mouselag, felt like dragging around a car every time I turned a bit and it takes a while before the view catches up again, but that goes away when I turn off vsync and the game is very responsive then. The problem I now have, is that with vsync off I'm getting a lot of flickering when aiming down sights when I move my gun, so it's almost impossible to hit anything in the distance, as it's constantly obscured by my gun model flickering. Is there some kind of framecap I can turn on? If anyone had these problems perhaps they know a way to fix it?

    FOUND IT! Yay I've been using the same weapon to test so I had something consistent to see if my tweaks helped, and the problem was... The damn gun model DUH! :rolleyes: I was using an M16 with iron sight. I switched to a saw and voilá.. smooth as butter. Must be the animation of that particular gun that's just crappy and doesn't have enough frames in the animation? Just happy that it's not a general problem, now I can actually hit things :cool:

    Hmm I've tried just about everything I can think off and nothing helps, setting render frames ahead to 1 also. It's pretty much unplayable because as soon as I aim down sights my gun is not moving smoothly anymore, it just snaps like locking to an invisible grid in little jerks making it impossible to take aim fast or track any target. I've tried putting smoothing all the way up, if I turn vsync back on and smooth all the way up I get rid of the flickering of my gun model, but it's still doing this snapping to a grid jerky motion, but only when I aim down sights. Everything else feels smooth when moving around, looking around fast with TrackIR is butter smooth so It's not a low FPS problem, I've tried turning my video settings down just to see but it doesn't help either. My system is i7 2600k, Graphics card is HD5970, windows 7 64bit.

    Hey and thanks, but I already did all that, it was some of the first things I tried. With vsync on it doesn't help with the input lag (Smoothing/deadzone) of, but as soon as vsync is off mouse is responsive like other games, but I get this flickering of the weapon models when aiming down sights, only weapons with iron sights, scoped weapons are fine and micro stuttering when moving the weapon slowly. Turning smoothing up with vsync off just makes the input lag come back but the weapon still flickers (Screen tearing basically) What I'm looking for is some kind of framecap so I can get out of the fps zone that causes the flickering/tearing and still keep vsync off. Windows accelleration and mouse smoothing is always disabled.
  17. I just installed my TrackIR to use with the game today and it works great, only I have some kind of bug when using lean to the sides. At random times my character just gets stuck with his head to the side (As in normal looking to the side, not leaning), resetting TrackIR with f12 doesn't do anything. I also tried reloading the mission but it starts up even more messed up with my character in some weird contorted position. Exiting the game and starting it up again fixes it, but it happens every 10 min. or so at random times, so it gets quite annoying. If I disable the leaning axis in TrackIR then it doesn't happen, or if I turn the axis down a lot it also stops, but then I have to lean my body so much I'm almost falling out of my chair :D I downloaded the TrackIR software from the side today so it should be the lastest version. Anyone know what the problem could be?
  18. I got the updates, I tweaked the profile I made based on them. I seem to have fixed it now. I think the problem was that the curve I made for the lean axis had the last points/dots all the way at the top, I pulled them down just a little bit and relaxed the curve a bit, it was very steep, and it hasn't happened since, so maybe they were to extreme. Was getting quite annoying because it always happened in the middle of a mission, trying to finish it with my head to the side and my gun pointing forward was quite hard :p btw it's the first game I've played that worked this well with TrackIR, just amazing being able to look around with this much freedom and scanning the surroundings and squad without turning your character all the time.
  19. Just got anniversary edition I think it was called, first time trying out the ArmA series, liking what I see so far. I have a ton of controllers I'd like to use, racing wheel with clutch, brake, throttle, stick shifter, joystick with sepera throttle, TrackIR and various other stuff. I'm having problems completing the bootcamp tutorials because I have so much to get setup and get stuck with for example one of the jeeps just driving by itself and can't figure out what's mapped wrong, the suggestions for what to use to activate an action are miles long because of all the auto mapped controllers. So, my question is if there's some kind of sandbox map with a bunch of assets like vehicles, weapons etc.. that I could just mess around with to get everything setup and experiment with my control schemes, without having some mission or objective to complete?

Thanks to both of you, that took me a little further, got most things setup now, but for some reason I can't get my joystick to work with either the analog or keybinds throttle on the choppers, it just doesn't work right making landing without crashing nearly impossible. It's like the throttle is just always on, I've setup keybinds to take auto-hover off but it doesn't make any difference. Maybe I should start another thread about that issue, I tried searching a bit but I couldn't find anything.
