Anyone else concerned about ARMA 3 launch September?

3930K I7 CPU, GTX 680 SLI, 16GB Corsair Dom. Ram, Sabertooth X79 MOBO and an SSD...so basically you have a $2000 rig..correct? here are the "RECOMMENDED" specs from BIS. the above specs say nothing about running 2 680's or having an SSD or 16GB or ram....i don't even think it would cost $600 to build the "recommended" PC so your point is mute...people are not expecting to much ...what they are expecting is to have ALL there hardware utilized....HEY i have 8GB of ram!...oh wait the game is hobbled by 32bit...HEY i have a quad core!...oh wait the game can only use 2 cores effectively... there are demanding games out there but having to buy a $2000 rig to compensate for the inability of the engine to properly utilize available hardware is no justification to tell people they "expecting to much"...for a lot of us its not our hardware its the engine that is the problem. what do you think is going to happen sheepdog when the final release comes out and all the gaming sites start there reviews? do you think there going to come here first and comb through the forums looking for all the tips and tricks to getting a solid and smooth 30 FPS? or do you think they will load up the game and accept what ever ARMA 3 default there rig too (like high and ultra for mine) whether they have a rig like yours or a "recommended" rig its not going to go well because it will point to the engine as the culprit and less the hardware. -
VERY NICE! , thnx for the work

i have glanced over the last few pages and see the debate over what is really important to ARMA's future whether it is MOD's,single player, content, campaigns ..etc but IMHO what the devs should have done from the start is work on nothing but the engine core...revamp,rewrite, rebuild what ever you want to call just so that is capable of fully utilizing 4 core and before anyone starts chiming in about alienation the dual core crowd please understand that in order to evolve and move forward you have to take advantage of the latest tech not cater to yesterdays standard. We are all well aware of the performance issues A2 had and that they still persist in A3 because it is not an "optimization" issue it is a core issue with the engine that is unable to full utilize all the hardware available, so imagine if you can that BIS does nothing but make the engine as robust as they possible can over the the last 3 years making 128+ player possible along with the ability to have hundreds if not thousands of AI active at the same time...the possibilities for mission making would be endless :) but of course you going to ask what good is that with out content...well the answer to that has been with us for a while....its called I44 ...remember how BF2 got started..it was a mod for bf1942 And if i remember correctly the authors were hired to help in the creation of BF2 . Now i am sure some of you are grumbling right now about how the WW2 genre is played out but i think most people don't realize the depth of weaponry that WW2 generated...imagine A3 comes out and the first video you see is one of the tank battles at kursk (over 6000 tanks) I don't care what kind of FPS you like it be real hard to not to be in awe of watching hundreds of tanks duke it out while 128 + players participate :) ---------- Post added at 19:24 ---------- Previous post was at 19:21 ---------- im going to guess he (sheepdog) is playing at 640x480 rez to get 60-80 EVERYWHERE ;) -

were did you get this info on SLI comparisons vs single cards? -
@xXxatrush1987 and Anachoretes Are you guys saying that if ARMA3 had access to 8GB of ram it would not help? if the memory issue is taken care of by LAA why is it thrashing my HD so much? surely what ever the engine is looking for on my HD could be loaded into ram if the engine could access 8 or more gigs. ---------- Post added at 00:40 ---------- Previous post was at 00:38 ---------- sorry mate your are going to have to wait for ARMA 4 for full multicore support and the issue of FPS droping from one server to the next is an issue with the server more than your PC.

what he said^^^ I get 60+ and then i get 19 and then 40 and then 17..i look at the ground go back to 60 ..look at the marina back to 19 ...look at the sky up to 50...look back at the marina... I am glad you have you new rig and hope you enjoy it :) try some other games and let us know how it performs TheEvanCat -
OH WOW! you did not just infer that we are being unreasonable did you??!? so having the game thrash our HD's and in turn causing stuttering is a better solution than being able to fully utilize ALL of our ram...... ---------- Post added at 22:32 ---------- Previous post was at 22:30 ---------- it is what it is :( there will be some smoothing buffing and waxing but fundamentally it will not change , it will be playable but with limitations.

interesting thread, i have a ASUS MAXIMUS ( the first one) with a intel core 2 duo extreme QX9650 a stock speeds for our server but lack the bandwidth at the moment for more that 16 players :( I am not sure how far this old work horse could take us compared to newer CPU's. -
what types of DLC would you vote for?
ric replied to Tyl3r99's topic in ARMA 3 - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
what I mean by "engine strengths" would not be sound or dynamic lighting it would be core strength such as DLC #1 (a year or less from now) 1. doubles the complexity of Physx 2. new net code allows over 150 players 3. RV4 now scales evenly and effectively across 4 cores doubling performance (<< this on is pure fantasy :)) let BIS deal with the roots and we will deal with the leaves :) -
@both of you, I am aware of the limitations of 32 bit I should have added /sarcasm to my statement ---------- Post added at 13:55 ---------- Previous post was at 13:50 ---------- I get about the same except when we hit the matina then it drops into the teens :( I left aram3 last night and fired up arma2 and did bench mark #2 with everything maxed out at 1080x1920 and was getting avg17 fps ...is that normal given my specs?

Running at around 5 FPS during Showcases?
ric replied to thomas980's topic in ARMA 3 - TROUBLESHOOTING
it might help you to alot 2GB of system memory (if you can do that ) in the BIOS to the onboard GPU. -
just an FYI it is designed to take older software that was single thread/core and upgrade it to multi :) ---------- Post added at 01:28 ---------- Previous post was at 01:24 ---------- i just reinstalled windows and the stuttering (for me) is from A3 thrashing my HD now i am using a program from intel that uses my SSD as cache and that has helped but i think i may have to move the game to my SSD ...I just don't want to shorten the life of it with all the thrashing :( then again it would be nice if A3 could use some of the 4GB (out of 8) of ram i have doing nothing :(

ric replied to Tyl3r99's topic in ARMA 3 - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
leave the mods modeling and map making to the community and let BIS concentrate on engine strength and features known as expansions :) -
simple answer is people by nature compare apples to apples oranges to oranges hotrods to hotrods and FPS's to FPS's. and I assume by the facepalm that you think the RV4 engine is capable of creating an identical environment as PS2? if so what are you waiting for? seems to me that a PS2 clone (free to play) might attract a larger audience (more money) then "take on mars" (i do think the TOM is kinda of a interesting idea). You me and everyone else would love to see the performance of the engine double...which is all you would get at %50 parallelization...but thats still double...Dwarden you were good enough to give me a quick response to a question i had a while ago but i have yet to hear back on this http://www.texasmulticoretechnologies.com/products/ from what i have read it really sounds like exactly what RV4 could use :) @mobil medic and walkerdown , well said mobil and while i agree with you guys this is the only show in town in terms of this genre but worse that that is the changes going on in the industry in general...COD and BF3 have set a new tone in the game world basically saying the "sheeple will buy anything as long as we make it pretty" BF3 and COD are closed games basically all you get are the scraps from longshanks table (DLC) and i fear with the rise of the new console architecture it will just get worse....PC's will become the unwanted step child in the industry and studios will no longer write games that don't have an "expiration date" (see BF3). As for BIS I am starting to wonder what there plans are in general...will they get into the console market? will they stay with the PC market? I do know one thing for sure IF there is a ARMA4 It will have to be on a "brand new" engine or a massive overhaul of the RV one because what is happening now with ARMA3 is not subtle but but profoundly stating EOL for the RV engine in terms of trying to power something like the ARMA series.

460? I should have checked the specs better :( , as sneakerson said the 460 is at the very edge but who makes it is what concerns me...a quick search shows that AcBel Polytech makes some of there PSU's who also make Cool Master which does not have the best rep when it comes to PSU's. @TheEvanCat any way you can get us the info off the side of the PSU such as model number? or better yet take a pic of it. -

im not sure room was the issue... the 645 is not really suited for "demanding" games :( all you other specs look good, if you can i would move up to at least a gtx 660 or a 7850 or higher. http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=GeForce+GTX+645 '
