Why i decided to stop waiting and pay full retail for TOH
jeremymtc replied to Sleepdoc1's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - GENERAL
I couldn't agree with you more, Sleepdoc. Well said. I had a kind of funny experience when I first learned of TOH via a splash ad on Steam: "Oh, a new helicopter game/sim. Huh", I thought to myself, "Neat. Maybe I'll look into it sometime." About 20 seconds later, I did the mental equivalent of a double-take. Waitafreakinminute here. A new helicopter sim? I love simulation. A new helicopter sim... I love helicopters. A minute later it was purchased and downloading. It seems I had to consciously remind myself of the points you've made above... Which really shouldn't have been, as I've been in the habit of consuming simulation titles carte blanche for years, on the strength of the very same principles you've described. Go figure, must have been tired or something :) -
Eyefinity does work nicely in TOH. http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=128823

I do find TIR useful when running in triple-head. The increase in vertical field of view is very useful, and even with triple monitor I still use left/right look quite a bit. Agreed though in that using triple-head the need for TIR is not quite so glaring as it is with a single monitor :) As it relates to TOH though, it would be nice if the zoom-in and zoom-out part of the 6 DOF function worked properly.

TOH works quite well in multiple monitor resolutions - the interface elements are largely user configurable, and where they are not, they are at least sensibly sized and placed. TOH has specific aspect settings for use with, you guessed it, different aspect ratios including standard widescreen and triple-head. That said, the specifics of a multi-monitor setup have more to do with the hardware solution being used (eg; Eyefinity, NV Surround, Matrox TH2GO, etc) and size/number of monitors being used than they do with the actual software they are being used with. There is a lot of variability from software title to software title in terms of *how well* they cope with multi-monitor resolutions, but I find TOH to be pretty darn good in this respect. I think you'll find that a dual monitor setup is not very conducive to gaming however. When using two monitors, you have monitor bezels right dead-center in the middle of the viewable field, which is not a good thing. Dual monitor does work fine for standard desktop tasks though. The bottom line is that your video hardware will determine the effectiveness of a given resolution/layout more than the software title you run within that layout - the software (TOH in this case) can only optimize for a certain setup, and TOH does cope with multi-head quite nicely. I run TOH in 5760x1080 (3x1920x1080) on a Radeon 6970 card and love it.

Flight dynamics (important issues)

Hi Dave, Are your controllers USB or gameport? If USB, have you tried using a port connected directly to your motherboard? -
How do you change to an exterior view?

Highly disappointed with demo
jeremymtc replied to henrique_rp's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - DEMO
This is indeed a very important point, especially in consideration to how often Black Shark is used as a basis of comparison to TOH. Coaxes have a very high degree of stability compared to a single-rotor system: nearly complete torque cancelling by design vs. a head speed, air speed and aspect-dependent tail rotor. TOH does certainly have its FM issues, but even if perfectly modeled you'll still find vast differences in handling when comparing to the Shark. ^ This too. By "a lot more", we're talking frequency of control input rather than magnitude of input (Coaxes actually require the higher magnitude). Or more plainly, a single-rotor bird will generally keep you busier at the controls than in a coaxial. -
Make sure your game list is up to date in your TIR software first. Then enable in-game (make sure that "Free Look Interaction" is set to 'default: on' via the game settings menu).

New "scripting tech" incoming! What could it be?

I think that scripting in LOGO would be hilarious ;) -

Saitek X52 Controller Issues
jeremymtc replied to taviyo's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - TROUBLESHOOTING
Yes, you need to look into trimming. You can map trim controls to hatswitches, buttons or sliders on your controller pretty easily. You'll want to make sure to map trim axes for roll, yaw and attitude. Two four-way hats do me fine for this. Most of the helis in TOH (from the Free Flight menu) seem to want 6-7 clicks of left cyclic, 15-20 clicks of forward cyclic, and 2-3 clicks of left rudder trim to establish a stable cruise at about 70-80% collective, on my setup. Once dialed in, you go can go hands-off on the controls for short periods. The tricky bit is wresting control of the helicopter initially if you're on an aerial start :) -
TOH TrackIR/How to Enter Helicopter
jeremymtc replied to boeing82's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - TROUBLESHOOTING
You can map a keystroke for entering/exiting vehicles in-game (I mapped ctrl-G for this). When you open the command list, be sure to select the "all controls" tab rather than just the helicopter controls. The icons for enter/exit are definitely a little dodgy, I find myself moving backward and forward and strafing to get them into my line of sight. Keystroke is generally much easier. -
They probably had to recompile the main program for Steam. Thanks guys :D
