    Operation Flashpoint Question

Hmm cant use the link but your info explains why I've tried going to "mod" sites for OFP2 and they all say "closed" / "dead" or variations of this...pity as the game engine seems very impressive. But that would be typical of CM...pump out a game and give it fuck all support or aftermarket patches etc...
  2. Hi all, I just bought a copy of OPF 2 Dragon Rising as ARMA 2 has sparked my interest in the war sim genre. Just a question - what is / was the relationship between ARMA 2 and OPF2? Would I be right in saying that the original Operation Flashpoint 1 was a classic and that the "hardcore sim" crowd have gravitated to Arma 2? Would OFP 2 then be considered a "lesser sim" than Arma 2? My initial impressions playing both of these is that OPF2 has the far better engine (all maxxed on my rig) but Arma 2 "feels" more "real"...just my opinion from a sim virgin. Thanks

Yea thats very bizarre...set shadows to max and frame rate still the same....problem seems to be with draw distance around large towns...apart from that so far very good :)
  5. Hi guys, I get to the part in the Bitterchill mission where I get the documents back to the base....game goes into autosave and then a progress bar appears along the bottom of the screen like its going to load in a cutscene or something and it just sits there and sits there..... Ive looked at task manager and it says Arma 2 is still running ok. Anyone know what to do about this? I've restarted the mission several times from the beginning....its bloody sickening as Im really getting into the campaign and now it looks like I cant progress. Thanks
  6. Srry to be a pain in the arse but I can't find the right command anywhere... I've called a helicopter to extract my team....it swoops down and we get in....but im damned if i can find where to tell the chopper to return to base or to a waypoint? Thanks UPDATE : Trawled the forums and got an answer :) Gawd what a pain in the arse!

I've been playing a fair bit of the first campaign and getting used to the "cautious" approach needed! :) I've got draw distance turned to min and shadows to min and getting "good" framerates. I am learning to overlook this however (e.g. compared to crysis looks like shite) as I'm appreciating the game for what it is....namely a huge world to play in with no loading screens and a lot of AI and depth of gameplay and atmosphere...also managed to get some AI mods working...AI healing each other, Zeus AI, stance AI. Avoiding ACE at the moment as I want to play vanilla for a while, then I'll be able to appreciate it when I decide to install it :)
  8. Thanks Gunter! I've gotten the heal script working and also the stance script...in the editor. I wonder if it doesn't activate in a saved campaign. Do you know if there's a compilation of all the best AI scripts for easy install? Thanks
  9. Hi there, I've downloaded just a couple for now...the most simple maybe being the Copy My Stance one. I've created an @folder and inside that an addons folder. I've placed the pbo in the addons folder and downloaded CBA as required. Inside the launcher I've set it so that CBA loads before the AI addon. But in game just nothing happens. I don't think its an issue with the mod but with my stupid arse generally more than likely... Oh I should say I'm resuming in the middle of a saved campaign. UPDATE : I've gotten the Heal script to work..I copied the files as before but named the parent folder the same name as the actual pbo but adding the "@" as well - now it works. However I added the AI First Aid Support (darpa), went into the campaign and shot one of my men but no one healed him so I'm not sure if I'm still doing something wrong. Any help would be really appreciated! Thanks

Hmm thanks for this advice - I've just downloaded the beta version and will give it a try! I'll post detailed system specs later if this version doesn't solve the issue. So far though the biggest low fps has been the town in chanarus in the harvest red campaign. Have had to put draw distance to the minimum to get anything approaching smooth.

Yup I agree...pointless debates achieve nothing. Arma = amazing at what it does Tech 5 = amazing at what it does :)

Im not preaching at all. I mentioned half a line in my thread earlier just saying that this engine runs like a dream. The other poster made a big deal out of it and so I responded with some facts. Chill out.

You need to read up some more m8. Tech5 is the most advanced engine ever in the history of gaming. Play Rage (not a great game tbh) - and you wont see ONE join line or ONE repeating texture ANYWHERE. Its not a same-old approach where a bunch of textures are plonked on top of wire mesh at design time. The levels are painted freehand so no single pixel in a gameworld has to look the same EVER. The original textures for Rage are 1 TERRABYTE. When the hardware catches up we can use the uncompressed textures and see a world in gaming that approaches Avatar. John Carmack has already said that the early builds of Doom 4 look 3 times better than Rage and are 3 times as optimised. 7 year old hardware? I think not. Also to get the same technology to play at a rock steady 60 fps across PS3 / 360 and PC is nothing short of stunning. Arma 2 may have a lot of AI routines going on...but in terms of graphics engine its light years behind in every department. Right now the games industry has looked up from their attempts at designing the wheel only to see a space shuttle come in for landing. Seriously m8 go and research the engine so that you'll have an informed and accurate opinion.

Hi guys, My only major gripe with the game is the performance. I can run the most technically advanced and demanding game engine on the planet (ID Tech 5) at a steady 60fps but I'm getting appalling performance with ARMA 2 / COA. I appreciate that there is a lot of AI calculations going on but the engine does look to be very outdated / poor / unoptimised and I see I'm far from alone. I would say it would be impossible to even consider online play at the moment. I've tried numerous tweaks with little success. It's unfortunate that I'm spending more time trying to get smooth performance and detailed graphics than actually enjoying playing :(

Thanks a lot m8 - I'll uninstall and redo from scratch! BTW it's a refreshing change to post n00b questions on a game forum and not get flamed! Thanks everyone for the kind help!
