Hmm, I have never seen something like this. Maybe there is not enough space left on your HDD? :)

Actually the Sprocket version of TKoH does not require a DVD (because you have none to begin with). It think this is also true for the Steam version. I have to admit it does not help if you bought the DVD, but theoretically it seems possible. :)

Why i decided to stop waiting and pay full retail for TOH
fboes replied to Sleepdoc1's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - GENERAL
I have to admit: I have the same attitude towards helicopter simulations. I buy almost anything on sight (but for some German "Medicopter" games). I am crazy about helicopters since Gunship on our old Commodore C64, I even bought "Hind" from Digital Integrations. :) I love the idea of TkoH being more playable by "normal" people as to spread the fascination of helicopter flying. Even my girlfriend got warm to this topic after having a look at TkoH. -
Why i decided to stop waiting and pay full retail for TOH

I think blave is right. I really liked the idea of buying the unfinished product, and having my fun with testing things. But I read some reviews which did not understand the WIP-status of the final version. Frankly, it may be quit annoying for some regular buyers, having to wait some more months before getting the real deal. Maybe there should have been an additional step, like a RC-Version for the guys who "bought" the Beta-Version. But from a sales point-of-view I understand the pressure of finally releasing software with some minor shortcomings. And -hey- as soon as it is officially released, you can be sure that there is enough pressure to fix things really fast. :) -
I am from Germany too, and I love TkoH. So I do not think BI "lost Germany". ;) All jokes aside: I think with some modest English skills you should be able to play the game. Even if you do not undertand all of it, it's still playable. Otherwise the tone of your message is slightly annoying. ;)

As far as I know it's only a cosmetical thing. You cannot control it yourself, but it may be a prerequisite of some mission, like the winch.

I second the idea of TrackIR & bis screen, because by mere accident this is my current setup (GF needed my primary monitor, so I had to plug my PC to out HDTV). Never mind the resolution, 46 inch with 1920*1080 px is all you ever need. :) the question you should ask yourself is: How expensive is a triple-monitor setup compared to a real big screen + TrackIR? :)

What is the difference between the original-XMLs of the 400 compared to the 600? Maybe one could copy the 600-XML to replace the 400-XML and just modify the engine power to match the original values.

Or make the GPS window zoomable, so there is no urgent need for using the map anymore. Otherwise it adds some realism: you have to check your map before takeoff. :)

WAF = woman's acceptance factor. :) My girlfriend is a enthusiastic gamer (if you ever get shot at by someone called Rinfee in World of Tanks, that's her), and took a look at TKoH. Well, her problem: There seems to be no female voice selectable in the player profile, and no female head either! (ok, not it's your time for the obvious jokes about how to improve TKoH for women :) )

Actually, she likes to carry guns. Also the only girl I know to have been riding on a real Jagdpanzer. :) But she also loves her phone. :)

Advice needed for peripherals -Buttkicker & TIR5
fboes replied to vonduck's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - GENERAL
And I am pretty happy with my TIR4Pro in its most basic variant. If TIR5 is too expensive for you, TIR4 is still a good deal. -
Sorry, she has just one brother. :) But trust me, sometimes it's hard to fight with your GF about who is allowed to use the PC. We solved this by getting a second PC. :)

Better lights and other suggestions
fboes replied to WarriorM4's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - SUGGESTIONS
Yes, more lights would be much appreciated. Other helicopters around you are sometimes hard to.spot. And boats should have brighter lights to. But while flying with NVGs the instrument panel is too bright. :p As it seems the throttle can not be mapped to a slider. I think this may be because of the lock you have to have between idle & off. -
I seem to be missing an extensive weather report in mission briefings. At least in auto-generated mission there are not enough informations about wind speed, temperature and so on. I would also like to see snow. :) You could easily misjudge your height in snow, and landing will get complicated by snow flying around from your rotor downwash. Snow is the perfect setting for some Christmas missions. Like slingloading Christmas trees, or slingloading presents and dropping them into chimneys. :)

Loosing controls randomly during game play

Which flight model do you use? In expert mode you have to trim, trim & trim again. :) -
BeePee, you are my personal hero :)

Or getting the "balls" on the power lines dC_izlGm28c

Flight dynamics (important issues)
fboes replied to nightsta1ker's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - GENERAL
@Panther353: Thx for posting this PDF. This is really good stuff and a comprehensive guide to heli aerodynamics. -
And I second the call for power lines. And maybe some wire strike protection system as extra add-on to your helicopter (like the mirror or doors). So you can decide if you are good enough to leave it at home. :)

@JumpingHubert: Hmm, is it a question of GFX settings? Because my trees do not move. ;) The only smoke I see is the dust I generate when hovering - my idea was more like chimneys generating smoke. And clouds do not count - they are way to slow to show any kind of wind direction.
-
I just recently switched the HUD off, so now I have to keep guessing where the wind is coming from. How about this: - Wind moves trees (the direction the tree is beding to is the wind direction, and the sharper the tree bends the more force the wind has :) ) - Wind moves smoke (like smoke from chimneys and so on) - Wind changes the direction and force of waves (if you see foamy waves, you know there is lots of wind) P.S.: I know that from the technical point of view this will cause massive CPU / GPU load. But never mind… :)
-
Uh, it does? Hehe, never mind. But there is not enough smoke around. :)

You are the man, Fergola. :) So you have like 5 minutes for looking down, before the wax is liquid. :)

As far as I know you need three infrared LEDs in a certain constellation. So you might want to consider modifying an TrackIR TrackClip Pro. ;) Other ways to get some IR-LEDs: a Wii Sensor bar should have at least two IR LEDs, and there a battery powered versions of those available. Or you could put some candles on your hat, they emit infrared light too. :)
