It's been a loooong time since I've hung out here, so hopefully this is still the right place to put this... Anyway, I was revisiting some old game-play with ArmA III and some old missions I'd patched together. It left me wondering about something I'd looked for back in the day, but was never able to find; and still doesn't seem to be available (unless I'm not looking in the right place?). Has anyone ever done an Mi-24 with permanent door-gunner positions ala the merc's copter from Blood Diamond, or the heli in this clip (shown from about 1:30 on)? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUTm8qAepgU As mentioned, I've looked all over the place, and haven't really been able to find anything with that sort of half-door-closed, mounted machine-gun setup. Has anyone done an Mi24 Hind with door gunners? I've tried searching, but nothing. I'd be fine doing the model myself: but the whole Oxygen 2 and compiling thing is a total mystery. :confused: On the other hand, I could edit an existing model, if someone doesn't mind doing the image mapping over it/scripting... Anyone? :) -
Yup, I did see your post there, and thanks for the reply. I can see what you mean by modifying the missiles into bullets: and if you do have a working model, I'd be hugely appreciative! However, I'm still unsure on the control points though. Missiles or guns: control still goes back to the single gunner... no? Given only a single gunner can be designated (per model)... I'll have to have a closer look at the config file to see what you mean. If I gather what you're proposing correctly, it would still be a single gunner, but switching between weapons would switch control between a forward, and (two) side "guns". Am I off there? Thanks again for the input!

Well, I've searched here, and over at OFEC, and nothing's turning up. I've seen plenty of discussion on the impossibility of mounting seperate vehicles (gun turrets) on fixed-wing aircraft, but is it also impossible for helicopters? I've got the getpos thing down, but (same with fixed-wing aircraft) it doesn't take pitch and roll into account. So... I've considered doing an invisible vehicle (based on the M2) and then just modeling a fixed gun on the side to "look like" there's a side gun. That way, the invisible turret can rock all over the place. But then there's the gunner issue, and I don't thing you can assign the gunner position of one vehicle into the passenger position of another... Therefore: is it definitively impossible to see multiple MG's on a heli? Or has someone out there cracked it and I just haven't been able to find it yet? Thanks!

Well, I gave it a go, and... It works just fine if the turret you're trying to mount is directly above the center of the object you're mounting it to. The array returned by "getpos" returns coordinates locked to N-S-E-W, rather than relative to the direction the vehicle is facing. Therefore, I can tweak the setpos coordinates to make a side turret position well enough as long as the vehicle is either static, or facing the same direction. But the moment you turn the vehicle, the turret is altered in its position relative to the vehicle, messing up positioning. (if that makes any sense... ?) Likewise, it only seems to operate on fixed, flat plane. I.e. a boat does not pitch or roll: rather it only yaw's. A helicopter in flight rotates on all 3 axis: only yaw of which is taken into account for turret positioning. Regardless, it looks like I'm going to need a FAR more complex script to get this to work, and getdir isn't helping much... I've tried de-packing the GNT Frigates PBO to look at how he did multiple turret scripts (and how to get them to rotate with the boat), but my PBO unpacker doesn't seem to be preserving the text of the SQS files... (grumble...):( EDIT... In thinking about it, if I could get the standard game M2, I could edit it's position to center, and then just us a get/setdir to keep it rotated properly, but that still won't fix the roll and pitch issues... I'll have to get a Q up in the scripting thread to fix that issues. And does anyone have a P3D (or is it "S"?) of the standard M2? Thanks!

Hm.. Thanks. I have the SEB Nam pack, and I think you're describing what it does: sitting the gunner on the door, but the pilot and gunner can switch control of the same weapon. Right, I'll have to look into the scripting thing. If I can re-work a standard M2 to look like a door gun, then script one onto each side, while keeping the built-in nose gunner position, that might work. Sounds a bit over my head though... Is there anyone else out there who'd be interested in a Hind with a couple door gunners for MP? :)

Yes, I'm a bit late to the OFP editing scene... Has anyone been able to get multiple gunner positions on a heli? If so, how? I'm trying to do an Mi24 Hind with the nose gunner, and two side/door gunner positions, and... yea... Am I banging my head against a brick wall?

I'm a total idiot when it comes to creating addons, scripts, and the like. But I do remember in the original OFP, the Ballistic Addon Studio Chinook was scripted in such a way that you could drive small vehicles inside (the M151's, etc), lock them down, and transport them. Likewise, you could sling vehicles underneath from inside the pilot's position (while in flight) to transport underneath. If I remember correctly, their UH60 could do the same thing, with 5-ton trucks, HMMWV, etc. I'm largely a lurker, but I've seen Ebud around, and I've seen old addons ported in: I'm not sure what it would take to translate an old OFP script into Arma 2... -

First time poster here, so a big ALOHA. :D I've seen the attack copters, and I've seen the troop copters. Attack copters have pilot/gunner driven weaponry, and a number of the troop birts have side/door gunner positions. But has anyone done a helo with both pilot/gunner operated weaponry, AND a side/door gunner position? I'm thinking, of course, of the Executive Outcome Mi-24 Hind's as used in Sierra Leone. (google "EO Hind" video, and you'll see what I mean) So, before I put in a request, has anyone done anything like that? A Hind, modded to have two door MG-er positions, as well as a standard ground-attack weapon setup? Ta, Merci, Mahalo, Thanks, and all that!
