In Arma 2 I was able to make all sorts of zombie related missions and the such using The Undead Mod. I could just open up the editor, plop down some undead, or a spawning module and have at it. Does anyone know if it's possible to have something like this in Arma 3? I really have no desire to play one of these survival scenarios where you're scrounging for equipment. I like having a mix of BLUFOR vs OPFOR with zombies thrown in for a little bit of extra terror.

You got shot. Bad things happen when you get shot.

Couldn't agree more. When I first got into Arma 2 I came for the authenticity and hardcore experience. I chose Elite right off the bat and have never played on anything lower. It was a rough start (as I'm sure you can imagine. Going from Serious Sam and Doom, to Arma) but there really is no better way to learn than to dive in headfirst. The training wheels just dilute the experience.

Yeah, it takes a lot of practice. When I first started playing Arma 2 years back I had a similar problem but with practice you'll learn how to differentiate the differences in uniform. There's really no quick tip other than maybe play with the editor as paragraphic suggested. It's going to come down to your own ability.

I'm new and I'm lost / Some help for those new to the fold?

Learning to ID your target is one skill you'll have to develop. When I first started that was a challenge for me. Just learn to tell the two uniforms apart from each other. No easy way around that. The inventory is drag and drop. Click on something, hold down the mouse button, and drag it where you want it. You can tell if you're wounded if your vision starts going blurry and weird, and you'll hear your guy groaning. Sometimes you'll have a FAK pack (I think that's what it's called) that you can use to heal yourself. Use your scroll wheel on your mouse to scroll through your context menu, highlight the FAK option and press the middle mouse button to perform the action. The numbers on the top indicate how many rounds you have in your gun, and how many magazines you have left. So a display of "30 / 11" would mean you have 30 rounds in your current mag, and 11 other magazines (Not always full). If you reload your gun after firing rounds, it'll remember how many rounds were in that mag and when you come back to it, you'll only have that many rounds. From what I recall however your guy will always try to reload with the most full mag he has. The 200m you may see tells you what your sights are sighted in for. Meaning at 200m, your bullet will land at the center of the crosshairs (or reticle). If the target is at say 100m and you're sighted in at 200m, your bullets will land higher, and if the target is beyond 200m, your bullets will land lower. Crouch and stand are toggled using 'X'. When standing pressing X will crouch. When crouched pressing X will stand. When prone 'Z', I believe X will bring you to crouched. I commend you on diving in. The Arma series is intimidating at first, but extremely rewarding once you get the hang of it. Stick at it, and welcome to the team. -
I've found they tend to me hit and miss. I was playing online is a custom match where I was opfor, and my AI were ignoring orders and just doing stupid crap. Blufor AI on the other hand was very effective and just destroyed me. I think there's actually a slight variation in the Blufor and Opfor AI, but overall I think they're still WIP due to it being an alpha and all.

Laptop users - How is ArmA 3 playing?
SkyeFyre replied to RadicalAtHeart's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
I'm running it on an old (had it for 2 years now) Dell XPS 15 l502x (See sig for specs) and I am running around medium (nothing lower than medium) settings at 1280x720 (framerate too low at 1080p) with an average FPS of 30. Sometimes it will peak up to about 45, and dips down to 20 during big battles. Can't use AA, but I can use one of the post process AA settings, and regularly use FXAA - Ultra. For me, that's playable because the dips aren't that common. -
Thank you! This has been bothering me for a while now. People don't seem to understand what Alpha and Beta are. As someone who's done some game development (indie) I forget that not everyone has the same perspective on how games come to be. Basically once the core mechanics of a game are implemented and ready for ironing out, you're in alpha. Even if the animations are not in the game, art assets are missing, sounds...etc, it's in alpha. The core mechanics in the case of this game would be the movement and shooting..etc. Now keep in mind when I said "implemented" I meant put in the game. I didn't mean perfected, or even working properly. As long as it's in the game and ready for testing and fixing, it's fine. As far as an alpha goes... this one is actually rather polished. Which is to be expected for a publicly available alpha. Now, once every feature that is going to be in the game is implemented (once again, not perfected), then we enter Beta. Currently this game is nowhere near finished! Our job as alpha testers is to provide feedback as they mold the game into its completed form. Making a game is like making a sculpture, or a painting. First you start with the broad strokes, and then slowly, bit by bit, the full picture begins to form. Saying that you regret your purchase or you hate the game and you need a refund is ridiculous.

Why Do You Think Bohemia Interactive Is Holding Back?
SkyeFyre replied to Leaulux's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
Because it's an alpha. Right now we're testing what they want us to test. Even if they have more things that are actually complete, they're providing just enough for us to test the core mechanics of the game. -
Personally I love the direction they're taking the game. People keep mentioning that things haven't changed that drastically in the last 20 years. Well what about the 20 year period that started 40 years ago? or 60 years ago? Just because relative to our period in time the last 20 years hasn't seen a huge change doesn't mean that every 20 year increment is just as stagnant. If there happens to be a major incentive to upgrade infantry gear in the next 20 years, then yes you will see these kinds of changes. What we have now would look like sci-fi to people 20-30 years ago. I've already played the modern era, I want something that feels fresh, and that's what I'm getting. To clarify: I'm not saying you're unjustified in what you believe, just stating the reasons why I love the direction they're taking.

It's not just you. I noticed the same thing when I was playing around with the editor. Arma 2 has a bit of a load the first time you preview, and then after that it's almost instantaneous. In Arma 3 I've found that each time there's a significant wait while it loads.

Game slows down over time, not a frame rate issue.

I'm playing on a laptop, it's a laptop processor and graphics card. I have no clue what speedstep or turboboost you're referring to. If you mean the turbo boost from being a Core i7, then I wasn't aware you could turn that off, and I'm not sure how that would improve performance. -

So why would it just start now? I've played warfare on Chernerus with all control points activated, and played a warfare match that went well over 4-5 hours. Now I'm trying again and it just messes up after an hour. I'm not doubting what you're saying, I just find it very odd that I had all of Chernerus active and shooting at each other before and the most I had to wait for a menu then was like 5 seconds. Thanks for the information though. It gives me a starting point to get this going good again. It's nice to know the problem. I figured it probably had something to do with A.I. -

This is unfortunate. I'm playing warfare solo on my own computer, the only other computer I have that I could even think of running a dedicated server on is significantly weaker and I fear the problem would occur even quicker with that one. I've never had a problem like this before, why is just manifesting now? To clarify: I'm playing warfare alone with bots, no other players. The server and client is me. -

Ok, so I've been playing a lot of warfare matches. I used to play it just fine, but now after about an hour the game starts to slow down. Like, there are insane delays between when I choose construction options and when it will actually place the object. Or when I choose "Buy Weapons" or "Buy Units" it sits there for a solid 10-20 seconds before popping the window up, and then once the window is up, it takes another 10 seconds or so for the purchase options to appear. My game is running at a solid 40fps, I'm able to shoot, blow stuff up, AI reacts quickly, but anything involving my actions menu just gradually slows down to the point that my whole game doesn't even work. I'm not sure what kind of information you would need from me to help, so I'll leave you with my system specs and wait for further instruction or assistance. System Specs: Dell XPS 15 L502x w/ Sandy Bridge Intel Core i7-2630QM 2.00GHz with 2.90GHz Turbo Boost 6GB DDR3 RAM Nvidia Geforce GT 540m 2GB 500GB 7200RPM SATA HDD
