Helis on Film (Real Footage) Please post your real chopper footage in here.
EMann replied to max power's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - GENERAL
Not real footage but what you can expect from a (she ain't cheap) commercial 'civilian' helicopter FFS (full flight simulator), also has dynamic mission creator. outside view, nice example of how radio chatter should be done imho. -
I thought this would be a good alternative in the light scout role. Custom weapon/fuel load option would be great to :) AS550 C3e

Finally a reality TV show i might watch.. currently it's still being developed, due for release soon. By the look's of things the pilot is the presenter too, would not be surprised if it was his concept. :) http://www.arrowheadfilms.com/documentary/hoverman-series-teaser http://www.arrowheadfilms.com/documentary/hoverman-big-horn-sheep -
Is it possible to script for a skid proximity trigger @ 0 knots, while maintaining a stable hover for a minimum period of say 5 seconds or whatever, only then would a character be able to board? If possible would be great, i can see mission makers having more options in creating more challenging and technical missions for the pilot.

Just wonder'n what frame-rates people are getting in general? I'm hoping my 460gtx is up to the task? Any good suggestions for best balance of settings?

Flight Dynamics Feedback From Real Helicopter Pilots
EMann replied to RUBIX's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - COMMUNITY PREVIEW
Are you referring to 'As realistic as possible Flight dynamics' according to RL pilots in expert modes or the default flight model setting etc for novice or general user? Reason i ask is why would you restrict a FM of all realistic attributes in the Expert mode? or is it more about the over simplifying of certain flight procedure or similar? -
'Horrible' really? i would say in it's current form it's LEAPS & BOUNDS in the right direction!.. as for 'perfection' i don't know what that is? and i don't think your going to find it in TOH when no specific real world helicopter type is being simulated. Personally i quite like Bohemia's take on the FM for helicopter's, i'm not a RL heli pilot so i don't have a objective opinion when it comes to realistic comparisons, so i won't even go there, regardless of how many sim titles i have experience in! What i would hate to see is carbon copies of any FM's used previously, why would you? this is a BIS creation so i'm leaving my final verdict for 27th October.:) The good news is that the RPS review laid to rest some of my fears and confirmed the wake-up call to other developers to go back to the drawing board and work on improving the immersion factor among other things.

^^^ Agree, don't get sucked-in by the nice looking cases & their premium customer support service etc. Sourcing the same internals yourself will save you lot's. A good place to start and Best bang for buck IMO at the moment for a Intel system, is either Corei7 2600k (3.4ghz) or for $100 hundred less Core i5 2500k (3.3ghz). Couple any of these 2 cpu's with the many 1155 (z68) motherboards available (do your homework) and you will have the brains of your system sorted. This should free up some $$ for Video, Ram, psu etc.:)

As a first time user of TrackIR5 + pro clip, i have been experimenting with the setup for the last couple of wks. I was a bit skeptical at first given the price, however after a bit of time getting familiar with software etc. I was very impressed with how much it has improved my flying in a short period. Picking up cargo is made less difficult and allows me to see the load i'm carrying, also being able to slightly move my head to the left has made judging distances to the skids a lot easier. It's definitely changed how i play flight/car sims, especially TOH/CP, i think the two are a must if immersion is your thing. Highly recommend if you got the budget for it.:)

If you were to show 20 sec cuts of 3 helicopter types Police, military & civilian performing in thier roles. This would clear-up any confusion that this sim is NOT another FSX or Xplane but rather a Helicopter dedicated sim with lots of variety and excitement. The animations, stunning visuals and realistic flight model just push this title beyond what others have not attempted or i suspect could ever hope to achieve in the short term. Getting the balance between Look and function is something BIS do very well imo, they cram so much in and make it look good to. If you preview swat responding to a incident 'Black Hawk Down' style, with the police radio dispatcher in the background giving the pilot and team a brief while on route and then do 2 quick static cut's of a roof top landing or fast-rope. Hands on wallets will follow.:D -
Introducing Take On Helicopters by Bohemia Interactive
EMann replied to Placebo's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - GENERAL
Yeah it would be hard to argue the city it's self is not a major character underpinning the TOH project. And therefore getting a balance between performance, look and function is something no doubt BIS are constantly working on. My hope is that the final release will offer a sense freedom to explore, enjoyment, being connected to the surroundings, responsibility and achievement. If they could throw in say 30 different continuous 'random' events to occur during the day eg: car accidents, road works, utility workers moving around doing jobs, tow trucks etc it would certainly put more spark in the city. -

Me like the new audio sample for coms, if the rest of the game reflects this level of quality it's sure to be the winner we all hope it to be. Would like to hear more situation perspective audio to reflect human emotion.. panic, frustration, urgency & danger. eg: during a police chase, the coms from ground units you will hear in the background sirens, engine revving, tyres squealing, gun shots or during fire fighting /EMS jobs - machine noise, PA announcements, panic, off the cuff comments personal opinion and judgement (relative to situation unfolding). The objective being to be more connected to whats happening on the ground, to be more invested in the game play and increase the immersion factor. After watching some of the vids from E3, i hope more than ever that BIS seriously consider keeping the animation of the pilots and crew in the cockpit. I know this feature has yet to be confirmed but please-please BIS do not compromise on this. I am aware the main argument against this is that the pilot animation obstructs the view of the instruments & controls (i beg to DIFFER! - i see everything just fine thanks). Yeah this was the kind of thing i was wanting BIS to break the rules on with regards the STERILE & LIFELESS! traditional simulator cockpit view (we already have enough clones of MSFS etc). BIS you can set some new benchmarks by not following the crowd here, yeah sure maybe not a major priority in the bigger picture, but the little touches(?) can be defining for sure, i think this and the other proposed features is what will separate you from the rest and could be another aspect to keep the player engaged. Personally i like seeing the pilots legs, knees, arms and hands moving not some ghost in the machine. For the simulator purists maybe a transparency option or option not-to could be included? Also the icing on the cake for me if all expectations are met? would be the ability to replay the last 30sec - 1minute of flight time to evaluate landings and approaches, would like to see x3 fixed LZ cameras (random select for proximity) and free look 1st/3rd person view, zoom enabled. *Mission want - x8 helo's with buckets & 737(AI) working together in co-op to fight major fire ripping across country, a nuclear power-station & towns in its path, 1hr to co-ordinate rescue evac and contain fire. From the air roadblocks, flashing lights & medical teams can be seen & constant chatter, weather updates on comms. Reputation and exp points will be the reward.:rolleyes: -
Highly unlikely as a TOH mission, just amazing to see what limits a helicopter can be pushed to. :butbut: Comments from the pilot: http://www.nationalgeographic.com/adventure/0509/whats_new/helicopter_everest.html *love the 355's

Yes my preference would be a smaller map with more detail over a large one with sparse detail. This was one of the thing's that kind of bugged me about MSFS series & Xplane not much better.. great FM's, Airports etc, some cities but overall not anything to jump-up and down about graphic wise. Yes i am aware of the fantastic addon's you can get for these products, however as a straight out of the box item opinion can vary. No doubt BIS are working hard to find compromise's to get a good balance between a traditional flight sim world where the priority is given to factors associated with the FM & WM (DCS, Lock-on series etc). And the open world type games (Arma, GTA IV) where playability, detail and definition shine through giving a greater sense of immersion and therefore leading the player to invest a bit more effort imho. Ideally i can see Seattle being the living breathing HUB city for other 'Take-ON' products eg: Take-on planes & ships? and it would be great in someway to have these products being co-dependent on one another when online eg (real-time jobs or contracts etc) or AI commerce runs in the background when in single player (same jobs and contracts type as MP). Eventually once Seattle has been fully tweaked and asset capacity reached. It will be time to move-on, why stop at Seattle? or Take-on tanks? you get the picture. If flying around in Zargabad is any indication then i'm very interested, just this small map alone is keeps me entertained for hours:D And Yes it's the FM, sounds ambient-interior, building/terrain detail & variety that is pulling me in, also love getting out of the chopper for a browse.. yep this is the ace BIS could have over the other sims imo, i look forward to the final release :)

My 2 cents: TBH all i noticed mainly was the word 'helicopters' anything before it was non-issue :p If i have to think about it, i don't mind it. Yeah it's different, compared to norm (whatever that is?), i guess if you wanted to separate your self frm the rest, but not to the point of obscurity 'Take-on Helicopters' might be a good balance?
-
Cheers Dice! yeah i think i'm gonna get one, it's in my price range. I think TOH will be worth the investment (hours of play i hope?) Yeah my cyborg-evo is taped to a small lamp shade table (about office chair height), it's a bit cheap but it does the job, cant fly with the stick to one side:confused: BTW: chk- http://www.simhq.com/_technology3/technology_188a.html For center stick mount desk bracket solutions. Might get one?

Thanks BIS i'm kind of getting addicted to this FM, so much so that my first ever HOTAS purchase is becoming very likely. IMO it's the only FM for a helicopter that i really felt connected to, it's not just the FM it's self.. ambient, engine & interior sounds really add a lot of immersion in other words the little touches are really appreciated for a long time helicopter enthusiast. Keep tweaking! Also, if the ability to control/manipulate characters & crew etc is the case for TOH? (i presume yes?), this feature alone put's it ahead of the other benchmarks eg: Xplane, Blk Shrk, FSX, Janes series etc Sure it might be irrelevant to the die hard 'sim' type, but in terms of overall game-play (storytelling) it counts a lot towards immersion. Static characters just don't cut it! I don't think there's been a 'serious' attempt by any dev to incorporate a 'dedicated' realistic FM be it fixed or rotary and coupled it the physical character attributes of a FPS environment? Just another reason why i support BIS in it's attempt to provide the complete and long awaited dedicated helicopter simulator and all it's likely practical applications. :o -
Hey Dice, i'm thinking of splashing out on a G940 too, can you tell me what the FFB is like for TOH or other flight sims. Based on the majority of review's out there, the feedbk has been quite positive regarding the FFB. It's not really a huge deciding factor as i think without it the G940 pkg is still relatively well priced. *I also wonder how many of us with Flight sticks etc fly with the Joystick between their legs (using some kind of custom bracket etc) or use a desk mount with the stick to the side or in the middle? If your a helicopter fan i'm guessing the obvious? My spec: Office Desk setup 24" Monitor Saitek EVO No pedals

+1 I wouldn't mind doing a lot of SAR and air ambulance mission stuff, like attending car accidents in tight spots eg: mountain roads, bridges, forest clearing's etc, also the worse the weather the better, hoping for a lightning show?:) Yeah so many scenario options, maybe a swat type mission could be done? like dropping swat into a hostage or bank robbery type situation and then providing cover with a sniper on board and then end with a pursuit? or Chasing powerboats with a camera crew, trying to keep up and stay in shot while navigating difficult terrain down a narrow river, director will be letting you know if your not close enough or out of shot?
