SOPA - Internet as we know it about to be gone?

So the Megaupload scheme is the SOPA-way of doing things: accusing the owners with the users crimes. Do you really think the people that watches movies on the internet would go to the teathers to watch them? I think everybody know most of these people wouldn't anyway, so it's not lost profit.

SOPA - Internet as we know it about to be gone?

The solution to piracy is, of course, marketing and mechandising. I know people hate those flashy ads all over the screen (thank god we don't see popups anymore!), but it allows people to mantain and profit from their sites. So, if some of the ads cash go to the artists, I think they may get much more income than selling CDs. It's like darwinism, were the most adapted survives: the industry must adapt to the new ways internet has opened. The bestselling artists still sell a lot of CDs, but let's face it, the least famous ones have already adopted the internet as their main vehicle.

EA vs Bell helicopters in BF3...

I get it more to the side of PR. Some people call it BS, but if you deliver the tools to the good guys do their job, the public can get a better view about the product/brand behind it. It's not about increasing profit, but getting a better image out there. That's only my opinion, and it's subject to changes, of course.

EA vs Bell helicopters in BF3...

For me, depicting the weapons/vehicles/tools and making the players like them is like a kind of free merchandising for the brands.

Realtime immersive - Militar simulator cryengine

VBS2 2.0 is at hand, and it's a good thing, but I guess BIS and BIA are seeing the weight of graphics in today's market, afterall. The market is demanding it, no one can deny that, but for what use I'm not sure yet. I see the military simulation focus is starting to change (or to get more ample, who knows), inlcuding now graphic fidelity (or, if not achievable, at least graphic immersion) in it's agenda.

SOPA - Internet as we know it about to be gone?

Damn, not trying to get into a debate about electronic piracy, but I can't see how it may trouble the phonographic industry. The people that get pirated copies of products are exactly the people that would not buy the original cause they lack the money to do so. The branding and the exagerated taxes elevates the prices to such levels that only a minority would buy originals anyway. And even this way, the profit is so high that the industry doesn't bother in changing their formula. The independent developers emerged with the web and are opening new ways of selling, innovating. It's not only about softwares and music/movies, it's about media, communications, everything. I admit that less piracy 'could' resut in less taxes and lesser prices, but the way capitalism is directing the world, this may prove wrong.

    Arma 2 Addon request thread

I've seen several of those, also M16s (well, AR15s) with A1 style sight/carrying handle + Railed handguard. Colt still produces Flat top and A2 style rifles, and installing a RAS on most AR based rifles is not that hard. If they are not going to get optics to be put on top of their rifles, why don't simply keep the fixed iron sights instead of migrating into flat top territory? But I'm pretty sure that's an old upper, and I have no clue how could it leave the armory. Maybe someone could tell what troop is that, through their patch?
  10. It is looking really good. Good job!
  11. It offers mobility, highly useful for reconaissance ;) (and infantry, to some extent, even lacking armour).

    Ghost Recon: Online

If only UBI could give us some SDKs for the older titles, everything would be forgiven and we would follow our paths, almost always away from theirs, of course

    Sooo Disappointed!

I would suggest the author to edit the OP, so people don't come in this thread to go totally off topic, as now the thread is about controller options and how they can enhance the player experience. I think it takes some pratice to get used to the new FM, but everyone will get it, sooner or later, I believe.

  15. Reading the comments, I really learned some things. Will start tests with them soon ;) I'm going to watch the tutorials now. --- Watched the three first videos. Really helpful. Thanks for them Abs. Maybe I should start moving (gradually) to higher poly models now, following the several tips I got from here. Will watch the others later.

    AH-64 Pack

Sometimes the 'harsh criticism' is not really that harsh. I think most users are not native english-speakers (including myself) and most lack a complete vocabulary to translate their words. I, for instance, keep deleting parts of every post I do because I think some people may misunderstand it, as I'm not too sure what I'm writing is exactly what I'm thinking. I even search some complex words in translators and dictionaries, just to be sure it's what I'm trying to express. The members, especially the non-english speakers, may get some words wrongs, thing like that, and a construtive critic may sound pretty hard on them. Of course, there's people that don't accept criticism, but I don't blame them. For me, I will always hear what people say about my creations, and will always voice my opinion about other's creations (with respect, of course), but will refrain to do so if they do not ask for help/opinions. Several authors want feedback (openly saying so in their threads), while others don't, and it's okay for me.
  17. Thanks for the tutorial. Will have to check it tomorrow, but I will certainly watch it :)

Well said NodUnit. I remember when I started modding (I still don't mod for A2, because I really lack a PC for even playing the game, instead playing in a friend's PC, but I really like low poly modding ). Just some simple reskins of a weapon for a somewhat popular game. Really simple if I think about it now, but at the time (what, more than half a decade ago?) it was a real pain to get things working. Using the Command Prompt to change the textures (made putting some camo on the original texture) and changing all the entries to match the 'new' weapons took me eternally to learn. It's a steep curve. While I never 'copied' other's work (actually, it was not possible to use other's models, because the modeling sofhware lacked import features for the supported format) for unauthorized distribuition, I did use their work as a base on how it's done (things simple, like using their configs as a start so I can make things right). It helped me a lot. It's nice to see people allowing others 'take a peek' at their creation, so the others are able to create for themselves ;) Also, support and construtive criticism are likely to help the starters, but on the other hand a demanding community can turn them away. Above everything, we must respect the modders (newcomers and veterans) creations, because almost everyone use addons to enhance their experience or for any other use they may have, but they are still free. Modder get rewarded with respect and recognition from their community ;) PS.: Sorry for any mistake I might have made. Any issue, I may retify the text if it's mistakenly written.
