    SP Missions by SaOk

Hi all, hi SaOk, really outstanding work!! When I started to play Arma2 I was amazed by its complexity, then annoyed by its bugginess in the SP campaign, worked my way around that, and after that, I was amazed again, thanks to your mission design. The editor has LOADS of potential, reminds me of Battlefield DC Mods and HL2 Mods but massively overhauled... And I really liked these. I especially like the athmosphere in the camps with well-picked sixties/seventies songs... Would like to sit down at the fire and have a beer with the mates, if there wasn´t some work left to do ;) Very, very nice work! To come back to the point; I recently tried to recapture the NAPA HQ, but I apparently did not find the spot to trigger the story to go on. I took out the AA-Vehicle, as well as the vehicle behind the fortifications, took out all (?) infanterists and moved to the task point / house on the map, but nothing will happen. Did I miss sth.? Thanks for suggestions, Regards, Confu
  2. I had the same problem of being warped somewhere to the sea. After reading this thread I tried to build a base while standing next to it the vehicle, not sitting inside. It worked. Building defense from inside seems to work, too, but if you stay inside "while it converts" to a HQ, you will be lost in the ocean. Makes sense somehow, since the vehicle you´re sitting in is no longer "there" when it converts into kinda building. So you respawn "somewhere". After finding my HQ deployed and "me" suddenly swimming in the ocean, I couldn´t help just to laugh out loud. After completing all tasks in Manhattan and finding Shaftoe dead in the end, struck to death by the fragile camouflage net above his head, which probably collapsed by friendly AI characters stumbling over its strings, while avoiding a vehicle I parked inside the base (as suggested by Hanzu)... , I´m really curious about what will happen next. :D This is by far the buggiest game I ever played...
  3. Thanks for the detailed feedback again! To clear up some misunderstandings; I meant, I could not capture Nikolayev, assuming that he blew himself up (suicide) ;) But I followed your link and that´s an interesting issue, too. If the bombing guy is critical for the mission script, maybe you should just not be able to see him, instead of making him invulnerable. Not that realistic... About Shaftoes "death from above"; I think it´s worth posting it to CIT since I found quite some threads in forums (in here and in other forums) concerning this issue. But no one found a working (!) solution like you, instead of restarting the mission from the very beginning (and probably making the same "mistakes" over and over again...).:banghead: So if you know the problem and have a solution, why not post it there! Timeout/ 4 month rule: I was talking about automatically logging off the forums, while typing a reply, but I still agree to you about the 4 month rule. (Didn´t really notice that, too, but you´re surely right.):ok: Version: I got Arma 2 via Steam on an occasional sale (for cheap :) ). It´s autopatched to 1.09.78183. Did not try later patches yet, because Steam tends to mess up things sometimes... If you know what I mean. Backups: Before reading your post, I thought about the necessity to maybe backup my player profile, too. If you advance in the SP missions, could there be anything stored in the player profile which will make it impossible to "jump back"? "Achievements" or sth. Dunno... Well, just had a look at the file, there should probably be nothing in it, that should change during SP missions. Except difficulty settings... That´s it for now. Thanks again, regards, Confu
  4. It worked. Finished Manhattan with all tasks accomplished, despite capturing the one who blew his house. :) Thanks again for your suggestion about how this bug arises (?) and how to avoid it. Your explanation makes sense to me somehow, BUT one (i.e. casual gamer) will never think of the AI to probably kind of accidentally kill a mission critical NPC by parking a vehicle inside the base... (As I did...) Friendly (and not playing a role in the mission anyway) AI is supposed to do nothing or at least nothing harmful while not in focus by the player ;) Well, now that the problem seems to be solved and can be avoided (if U know how to), it draws an "interesting" light and insight on the complexity of the game. Troubleshooting guides/suggestions like this should be highlighted or prioritised (?) in the forums to make them easier to find and prevent newbies like me of getting utterly frustrated before getting even a glance on the potentials Arma 2 surely has. Thanks again and regards, Confu PS: The timeout function of the forums could be a little expanded, too... btw... ;) PPS: Just backing up the content of "...\ArmA 2\Saved\ca\missions\campaign" folder worked fine for me so far. While playing SP only yet.
  5. This was really helpful, thanks a lot. The way Arma 2 deals with savegames frustrated me a little before "supposedly completing" Manhattan and getting stuck finding Shaftoe dead, so I was lucky to find a backed up savegame where I could enter the base again without "messing around" (and him still alive). Hope it will work this time. Complexity has it´s drawbacks...
  6. Thanks for your answer, but the forum search did not really help me. But with your hint I think I found a workaround; so here is what I did. Savegames are located in "systemdrive":\documents and settings\"username"\my documents\ArmA 2\Saved\ca\missions\campaign and look like this: save.ArmA2Save save2.ArmA2Save save3.ArmA2Save ... and autosave.ArmA2Save continue.ArmA2Save There are also files called campaign.sqc, weapons.cfg and objects.sav. I made backups of all these at a point worth starting over from again sometimes and stored them in a folder with the mission name, time and date. If I put these back into the path mentioned above, now I can replay. Be sure to backup your current progress as well before doing so. "Seems" to work so far... No guarantee. But I still wonder why ArmA 2 will delete everything you saved after passing a certain point?! And maybe sometime you don´t even know where (or when) that point is?! :391: You are told that you kinda messed it up, story goes on and you have no opportunity to do better unless you choose to replay the whole mission... And if you do so, all your progress is "really" lost. Once clicked, it´s gone forever. :banghead: Not like in other games which will warn you, but after reloading you still have the access to "all" the games you saved. Still not that satisfied with this solution, maybe this could be improved sometimes. Thanks anyway, regards, Confu
  7. Hi all, is there any workaround to keep (all) savegames in singleplayer modus? I really like this game but I´m still not really familiar with it... I´m still trying and learning how things work and - so far - it seems pretty amazing to me. But I have one issue; and that is savegames. (please ignore my poor english...) I already noticed that there are only a few "slots" available and tried to cope with that. But if I make a step "too far", suddenly the mission is over and there´s no way (?) to get back to my previously saved games, even if I´m not that satisfied with what I´ve done (or better; tried to do) so far. Only option is to replay the whole mission, since all saved games seem to be gone (in my case hours of playing). And if I go one step backwards (to have a look at the mess I did), even the new mission will become unavailable. That´s really kind of annoying. I´m 30+ and just a vanilla-gamer, but I really do appreciate the concept of Arma 2. But I would initially just like to play around and learn from my mistakes instead of being annoyed to have to do things over and over again. I´m sorry, if my concern already has been discussed a thousand times, but I´m also new to the forums and tried to, but did not find an answer so far. Thanks for your help and sorry for my goofiness :-/ Regards, Confu
