  1. Freerider, I commend your enthusiasm here, this community does need some pushing at times to get moving hehe, so I hope you do well with this.

For me, arma is a game AND a simulation, this is a system that CAN be both.

I play the faster paced PVP cos I dont have a spare 6 hours to spend on a long map (but I would love to :P) so something like this does interest me but sadly I won't get the benefit.

You aim this at PVP but all the PVP folk I know (yes its a small crowd I move in) this would be too slow for all the reasons given above, ie 35 mins driving then TKd etc To me, that isnt fun cos my free time is rather precious, but I do know that there are those folk that CAN spend 8 hours on a mission and still come back for more. I salute those guys hehe.

The lack of respawns certainly does add a huge degree of strategies to the game, ensuring the players are cautious and plan their moves etc but it does not fill me full of hope. Perhaps a compromise where respawns are set to 5 or 10 mins etc (like a sin bin) and perhaps even then, we only have 2 or 3 "lives". This will possibly placate those like me as well still maintaining a higher degree of realism.

Whatever you do bud, I wish you the best of luck and hope it all goes well. :)

  2. imho as close to the limitations experienced by actual solders as possible would be the 1st and most important measure. that's the promise that makes arma2 stand out heads above the rest. in fact, it should be the measure for every aspect integrated in the game

I disagree bud, I think Marek has hit the nail on the head here.

We all prefer this game cos its not the bunny hopping CS/MW style of gameplay here, its is MORE realistic.

But as soon as we compromise gameplay for realism, we will lose a lot of the players and clans for this game as it will no longer become fun.

A truly realistic game will have an hours worth of mission briefing, going over contact drills, actually getting to the start point then the actual patrol/mission, which may take hours before you even get a contact. Also during the mission you will get sore feet, start moaning etc. All in all, we cant really replicate that in a game, well, not a game I would want to play anyways. :)

I dont get a lot of time of time to play games these days, real life interferes hehe, but when I do get to play I dont want the hours of hanging around before I actually see some action, so the changes made so far meet with my approval :)

There has to be a compromise of realism over gameplay sadly and we wont be able to keep everyone happy all the time.

I will certainly be testing this more over the weekend when I actually have some time to play.

  3. Public play will remain non addon play.

Unless BI implements addon download or makes mergeConfig available again (config tweaks as part of a mission).

Agree with Nyles here, but PvPScene explains it better than I did a few posts ago.

Running addons in PVP add a degree of complexity to the game as well as how to manage the public servers (especially with the amount of cheating bastids around.

  4. As tax mentioned, the folks that are asking for the new anims for PVP play are very much "old skool" here, who have been playing this since the original OFP so your comments are not only insulting but do show a complete lack of respect for others or their views.

Now, NONE of thos commenting here like the new anims 100% and tbh, from my point of view the old anims are the right speeds for me, I just want to be able to break out of a step over or a reload or a grenade throw when I see an enemy come round the corner.

Altho the new anims certainly seem to rile those of the "hard of thinking" persuasion, I see it as "progress". Its not perfect but its a start.

I said it before and I will say it again, this game is definitely big enough for all of us here. We all need to learn to play together and accept that we are not the only ones playing this game.

I say improve the anims as a matter of course. If those that really dislike the anims, go play with a mod (as you say), the PVP community has been playing with the dodgy anims for years, so its time for someone esle to share in this, then perhaps we will get something done that pleases all.

  5. @ Beagle

You miss the point that much you are not even on the same planet.

So, just cos I prefer to play against REAL players than AI, it makes me a bunny hopping COD follower?

FFS guys, I expect that kind of behaviour from small children or adults that need to pop their cherry.

Hanzu has more of an idea here that most of you put together.

PVP players dont want sped up anims, they want BETTER, NON GLITCHY anims.

And yes, both sides have the same "issues" and bugs with the current system, its all about frustration in getting caught in one of those glitches.

Yes I prefer faster gameplay cos I have a real life, real family and real job, I cannot spend hours at a time playing huge CTIs or coops (which I do like, just dont get the time to play) so the small, fast 30 min CTF/C&H against live players suits me.

Beagle, I reckon the PVP community couldn't give a sh*t if you stop playing MP, TBH, with your narrow minded view on things, you won't be missed.

LOL Celery, some things dont change hehe

  6. the only thing i realy like about the redone animations is the slightly slower jogging and running in crouched stance :yay:

this 300% speed up of the other animations must be a early april joke i hope.

edit: whats so special about being a pvp player and why do you need faster animations? i play 50% pvp and 50% against ai (as most of the armaholics do i guess) and i can see no point why i should have 300% faster animations in pvp? especially a tank-commander will have a hard time in pvp with 1.58...

There is nothing special about PVP players other than they like to play actual people not AI.

With AI, they tend to react in "known" ways, i.e. a shot to the front of a group is likely to send them either running forward a few yards or all go to ground. Due to this predictable behaviour it can be said that playing against AI can be easier to confirm tactics.

Playing against humans is much more unpredictable, each player plays differently and thus reacts differently to each set of circumstances.

Also, when playing humans, not only do you need to be able to react to the situations a bit quicker (cos the reactions are mostly unpredictable) you also have to be a quicker player. The animations of this game have seriously impaired the PVP community and its ability to get the most from this game and now we have a chance to get a long awaited improvement to the game, we are, needless to say, quite keen to see this implemented.

Now, one style of gameplay is NOT any better than another, there is no ONE TRUE style of playing this game, it can suit everyone.

Personally, I dont use 3rd person, EVER, so the way the animations "look" are pretty unimportant to me. What I look for is the correct speed and no glitches, ie getting caught in the step over animation causes you to glide, or leaning round a building causes you to slide out past the building into the open.

The animations as they are do need improving, the devs are unlikely to get it right 1st time, so there is likely that there will be a period of "bedding in" while fine tuning occurs.

I also agree that the new animations are not perfect, but they are better than we have at the moment and its good to see that the PVP community gets a long awaited fix implemented.

Well done BIS for taking the animations into account (even if this release isnt perfect)

  7. And btw, the PvP community is not solely responsible for OFP's longevity. Were it not for the diligent mod community a lot of people would probably have moved on.

Sorry bud, poor choice of words, didnt mean we were the only folk keeping the flame alive, we just deserve more recognition than we seem to be given here.

One thing to consider if investigating the use of mods, as soon as you add mods to PVP servers, all our cheat and hack checks needs to be much better which given the proliferation of cheating bastids around is not an optimal solution.

As for a server setting for the new anims for PVP play, I heard someone say this is not possible, can we get confirmation of that please? Cos if we did have such a "switch" to flick, all parties would be happy (relatively speaking that is).

  8. +1 :);)

EDIT: To add my humble opinion. Instead of mis-tweaking something that was "Ok" in the first place, how about fixing the countless and countless well documented Animation-Bugs in the engine or the countless of other lame things in the engine since OFP? Just look at the Dev-Heaven Community-Issue-Tracker ;-) I'd rather have spent time on these bugs instead wasting it for something literally no-one wants to have. ;-)

So the PVP scene and all those that play this game in any other mode than against AI/NPCs are "literally no-one"? Thats quite insulting bud.

It was those same PVP players that kept the original OFP afloat cos that was a game that satisfied everyone.

I agree that bugs need fixed but it seems that the PVP community (small as it is) is being misrepresented in here by those that cant seem to handle the pace that a real player can offer and prefer to shoot at predictable (and quite frankly useless) AI.

This new update has both improved animations and better AI. Should you guys not welcome this?

And of aye, I also play some COD and BF (never competitively) however, neither come close to what OFP and Arma2 offer

  9. Seems there is a large skew to the opinions here, as mac pointed out.

I play arma2 ONLY in PVP mode, I rarely play coop, CTI or campaign. For me, this is the only game that comes close to what OFP was, and that was a game for all type of players, all types of mode and all styles of maps.

I play PVP cos its a mode I like, arma2 delivers this but it does lack in certain areas. An improvement to animations will certainly help here.

We have a game that can satisfy all needs so why do we get folk getting quite angry over someone else's opinions and likes/dislikes?

This game is big enough for everyone, we should not favour one particular side over another.
