Legal violations by A3L: Arma 3 life

The problem for me is it's not about wanting my work removed after the fact. I told them before they even "launched" their beta to drop my code because I never approved for it to be used. This has been going on since September. The current situation that this is in has only made my decision and request more clear and heard. I have never wanted my work to be used by them. Most of the time people give me a heads up and ask my permission to use my work before they even do it and most of the time I say yes, however not once did they approach me until after the fact that I learned they were going to use it and I flat out told them no. I've said it a lot of times and I am pretty sure no is a universal term. Now this is not to say that I would of agreed even if they had approach me before I found out as I would of still said no because they would of been delivering core game play that was not what they promised which I am highly against and frown upon. My personality is about quality and what you put out there says a lot about you and your type of character and when you build hype for something to only take the short cut route in what has clearly been displayed as a opportunity to acquire money flat out pisses me off. I read above and you do have a point that no one knows the true amount that they are generating nor the amount that is actually going out to server costs however I can break down the core server cost for the ARMA servers because they are at the same data-center that I am at. This is an educated guess as far as hardware specs that they may have for each ARMA server: CPU: Xeon E3-1270 V3 ($134) RAM: 8GB DDR3 ($10 if they run 16GB) HDD1: 60GB SSD ($0.00) or 500GB HDD ($0.00) OS: Windows Server 2008 R2 ($35.00) - This can be an unknown factor because they can a more expensive variant or their own as the DC allows OS installation via KVM Uplink: This can either be 100Mbps ($0.00) or 1000Mbps ($30) - Depending on the time of buy the 1Gbps option was free and is perm. for that server Bandwidth: 10TB Out|Unlimited in ($0.00) DDoS protection: This can vary depending on the plan but it can either be $50 for 10Gbps protection or $100 for 20Gbps protection. So out of that we will do a estimation for three servers at the highest possible cost which would be: $309x3 = $927/mo * 12 = $11,124 So for three servers including all possible logical part requirements they would be paying for the three US servers $11,124/yr but this is not to say that they are paying $309/server a month nor is it to say they did not skim out on a few parts to cut costs such as DDoS protection. For a webserver there is not much expense in that. I run my website for $46/mo which includes the web server and cloudflare protection and I ran a much MUCH larger website for a bit more and that was a website 40x bigger and more demanding without cloudflare. Website software its self was already paid which is $175 for the software and to keep upgrades it can be anywhere from $35-60 every six months so at best they are in need for a years cost of being maintained $13,530. Take that rough estimate from a highly educated guess that also includes teamspeak and possible licensing and the rumored guess of around $50,000-$55,000 already generated they have generated well over 4 years worth of "donations" to maintain all current services plus extra. Now lets face it, no game-targeted community specially for a mod lasts more then a year so the question that is instilled in everyone's mind is where is that extra 35k-40k going to end up? Most likely not in cost of maintenance and even expect some of the services or servers dropped mid way through the year just as every other game-targeted community has done. There is no need to keep a "donations" capability up and any sensible person would cut it, not continue to get more. The information above is based upon my own personal experience in running high-quality game servers and very very large and demanding websites so it is in my best opinion that this is fairly accurate and not based upon actual truth because as you said above no one knows how much money they are generating in "Donations" nor does anyone know where that money is going to. This also leaves out key-factors for the game servers specifically because LSN (Limestone Networks) Gives discounts for the more servers you have and also give out discounts upon request and sales quite regularly.

I would of but it's A3L's Teamspeak. I enjoy having internet and don't plan on getting DDoS'd anytime soon so I'd rather not. I could not tell if Katt was being serious or was just trolling though. None the less I am shocked by what Psi is doing and it's nice to see that he is willing to dig into what has been going on and also make people aware of it. Anyways, back to Sims 4 I go. Also I see that the petition hit its goal and is at 618 signatures, good job guys.

I am, someone tweeted me about someone slewing out crap, to bad the chat is chaotic so I can't actually speak but apparently they are still spreading the lie of me using their code from their variant of stratis life even when that was proved false.

It is on the front page of my website so it is likely to spread like wild fire in the next few days. Obviously some people disagree with the petition and why some of us want BI to take further steps on things like this but what the large majority of people don't realize is that you do not know how people such as myself as a content maker feels until something that you've spent months upon months on it is taken from you and commercialized and then Bohemia just slaps them on the wrist and are told like a child not to do it again when we all know how the internet works and that they will always do it again. What it promotes is that anyone is free to do the same exact thing until they are caught and by doing that it will discourage people such as myself from working on or releasing any future content to the public. Whether it's content you like or not other people will feel different about and when it gets to that point where none of us are wanting to produce content to the public for your enjoyment then well you will have a dead game. And this is not just solely about addon makers because I am not a addon maker per say. The work that I put out to the public has been missions as I have not had motivation to do any sort of mod for the public but the point is allowing behavior like this to go on will only discourage us and without mods or missions well lets face it the game would be dead. The modding community has and will always make Bohemia and their products successful. Games without mods have a life span of around a year or two where as games that support modding and has a healthy and happy modding community last for up to 6 years minimal. And for the love of god would people stop making this about Bohemia fighting directly and legally for content makers because if you have not read already they can't, they have absolutely no legal pull so stop going back to beat that dead horse of a conversation because this is not what it is about.

Not to go off topic but he would not feel anything. He did the same thing to OpticalSnare (Blastcore) minus the 'pay' part. HJohnson really does not have business in this conversation but that's my opinion. However he did point something out which is: The only thing I can think of that they could have done wrong from what I've read is not done the "XYZ mod by ABC" in a txt file somewhere. If you use the ARMA APL license people are allowed to edit and redistribute your work so long as you are credited and it is redistributed under the same APL license. Not a lot of people have caught onto that for an ARMA APL license.

That situation was different, I was indeed upset and have since never touched VAS as I said I would. What happened with virtual arsenal could be seen as a sense of flattery, the idea its self was being used where unlike what is going on with A3L my code is directly being taken and was used in a commercial way at one point. At least the Bootcamp DLC was free. He doesn't find it fun, PsiSyndicate promotes it because people want to see it and he makes money from that which is fine because people like him have made a full commitment to that being his job and its his only source of income. There are a select few of streamers and youtubers that don't do it for money and have integrity. PsiSyndicate is not one of those people however, as I said that is his job and not to promote what people want to see means loss in income and a man has to eat am I right?

I have already hit that point and have stopped doing anything related to ARMA. I'm at the point where I am ready to move onto another game or even make my own and to never look back on ARMA. I do not wish to speak ill about the decision made because Matt is at the front of it and I have known him and Dean for quite some time now but quite frankly I am livid that Bohemia is not doing anything more other then a slap on the wrists for breaking their own EULA, mod makers and even other games. If that is all that is going to happen it will eventually come back to bite them in the ass because other publishers and developers will not take kindly to their work being stolen, commercialized and used on another game engine and the owners of that game/engine not doing anything to put a stop to it, not to mention the current parties involved with their work being stolen have much deeper pockets then Bohemia Interactive as a whole. I get that they cannot act for mod makers with a legal dispute in some situations but they should at least make an effort to put a stop to it in a none legal way and there are quite a few options out there and in honesty they should take legal action for the break in their EULA and also work together with the other parties that have had their work stolen and commercialized (Crytek and Microsoft Studios). Although as I told Matt on skype I am quite upset that there will be no witch hunt, I had my pitch fork ready to go.

This is going to be the last time that I say this as I have said it to many times over the past 3 months, remove my work entirely and we are fine and I would also suggest that if you want to stay in 'good standing' with the community then you should uphold the original authors right and requests of their content being removed as well. We do not care that you are in 'good standing' with BI's EULA and are no longer using the content in a commercial way because the cold hard fact is the damage has already been done and we as content creators do not want our work associated with A3L period and no I will not discuss this 'privately' with Caiden because I knew from a year ago what type of person he was and everyone has seen his actions in this very thread so I have no interest what so ever of 'working it out' with him or speaking to ANY of the A3L members outside of the public view. I have voiced where I stand on this far to many times so there is no working it out, I want my work removed period and so do other authors.

That is initially what I got out of it as well but apparently even that is looked down upon by Bohemia. Anything that is rewarding in-game content is apparently looked down upon and against the EULA.

http://www.reddit.com/r/DatGuyLirik/ I should give fair warning, when dealing with Lirik's followers you may walk into extreme trollage. He is probably the biggest Twitch streamer. I'm going to take the time out of my day later and talk with an employee at their datacenter for the US servers, happens to be the same datacenter I have been with for over four years. Going to see what they think of the situation and whether or not they condone action like this.

Hey, just so we're on the same page here you said: but it's pretty clear that the HUD has remained unchanged Let's do a quick brief comparison and for the record if anyone should kill their self, it should be you for making me look at my old Wasteland code that I published back in November of 2012, however I do stand corrected in a sense. The code that 404Games had for the HUD was mine modified where as the dialog its self was Sa-Matra's. Here is the player HUD code that you so rightfully claim as yours in the mission you published: // @file Version: 1.0 // @file Name: playerHud.sqf // @file Author: [404] Deadbeat // @file Created: 11/09/2012 04:23 // @file Args: disableSerialization; private["_ui","_hud","_food","_water"]; while {true} do { 1000 cutRsc ["WastelandHud","PLAIN"]; _ui = uiNameSpace getVariable "WastelandHud"; _vitals = _ui displayCtrl 3600; _hudVehicle = _ui displayCtrl 3601; //Calculate Health 0 - 100 _decimalPlaces = 2; _health = damage player; _health = round (_health * (10 ^ _decimalPlaces)) / (10 ^ _decimalPlaces); _health = 100 - (_health * 100); _vitals ctrlSetStructuredText parseText format ["%1 <img size='1.5' image='icons\health.paa'/><br/>%2 <img size='1.5' image='icons\money.paa'/><br/>%3 <img size='1.5' image='icons\water.paa'/>", _health, (player getVariable "mymoney"), thirstLevel]; _vitals ctrlCommit 0; if(player != vehicle player) then { _tempString = ""; _yOffset = 0.24; _vehicle = assignedVehicle player; { if((driver _vehicle == _x) || (gunner _vehicle == _x)) then { if(driver _vehicle == _x) then { _tempString = format ["%1 %2 <img size='0.8' image='icons\driver.paa'/><br/>",_tempString, (name _x)]; _yOffset = _yOffset + 0.04; } else { _tempString = format ["%1 %2 <img size='0.8' image='icons\gunner.paa'/><br/>",_tempString, (name _x)]; _yOffset = _yOffset + 0.04; }; } else { _tempString = format ["%1 %2 <img size='0.8' image='icons\cargo.paa'/><br/>",_tempString, (name _x)]; _yOffset = _yOffset + 0.04; }; } forEach crew _vehicle; _hudVehicle ctrlSetStructuredText parseText _tempString; _x = safeZoneX + (safeZoneW * (1 - (0.42 / SafeZoneW))); _y = safeZoneY + (safeZoneH * (1 - (_yOffset / SafeZoneH))); _hudVehicle ctrlSetPosition [_x, _y, 0.4, 0.65]; _hudVehicle ctrlCommit 0; }; sleep 1; }; So if you own rights to that code why is there another persons name on it? Now we will do a comparison of my code from both Wasteland and Stratis life that I made. Wasteland: /* @file Version: 1D @file name: core\misc\fnc_hud.sqf @file Author: TAW_Tonic @file edit: 9/28/2012 @file description: This controls the hud / UI for food / water */ disableSerialization; private["_ui","_hud","_food","_water"]; while {true} do { cutRsc ["playerHUD","PLAIN"]; _ui = uiNameSpace getVariable "playerHUD"; _food = _ui displayCtrl 23500; _water = _ui displayCtrl 23510; _food ctrlSetPosition [safeZoneX+safeZoneW-0.080,safeZoneY+safeZoneH-0.55]; _food ctrlSetText format["%1", hungerlvl]; _food ctrlCommit 0; _water ctrlSetPosition [safeZoneX+safeZoneW-0.080,safeZoneY+safeZoneH-0.50]; _water ctrlSetText format["%1", thirstlvl]; _water ctrlCommit 0; sleep 2; }; Stratis Life (My build) /* @file Version: 1DC @file name: core\misc\fnc_hud.sqf @file Author: TAW_Tonic @file edit: 2/12/2013 @file description: This controls the hud / UI for food / water / health */ disableSerialization; private["_ui","_hud","_food","_water","_health"]; while {true} do { cutRsc ["playerHUD","PLAIN"]; _ui = uiNameSpace getVariable "playerHUD"; _food = _ui displayCtrl 23500; _water = _ui displayCtrl 23510; _health = _ui displayCtrl 23515; _food ctrlSetPosition [safeZoneX+safeZoneW-0.090,safeZoneY+safeZoneH-0.548]; _food ctrlSetText format["%1", life_hunger]; _food ctrlCommit 0; _water ctrlSetPosition [safeZoneX+safeZoneW-0.090,safeZoneY+safeZoneH-0.502]; _water ctrlSetText format["%1", life_thirst]; _water ctrlCommit 0; _health ctrlSetPosition [safeZoneX+safeZoneW-0.090,safeZoneY+safeZoneH-0.456]; _health ctrlSetText format["%1", round((1 - (damage player)) * 100)]; _health ctrlCommit 0; sleep 1; }; And lets compare Altis life current build: /* File: fn_hudUpdate.sqf Author: Bryan "Tonic" Boardwine Description: Updates the HUD when it needs to. */ private["_ui","_food","_water","_health"]; disableSerialization; _ui = uiNameSpace getVariable ["playerHUD",displayNull]; if(isNull _ui) then {[] call life_fnc_hudSetup;}; _food = _ui displayCtrl 23500; _water = _ui displayCtrl 23510; _health = _ui displayCtrl 23515; //Update food _food ctrlSetPosition [safeZoneX+safeZoneW-0.090,safeZoneY+safeZoneH-0.548]; _food ctrlSetText format["%1", life_hunger]; _food ctrlCommit 0; //Update Water _water ctrlSetPosition [safeZoneX+safeZoneW-0.090,safeZoneY+safeZoneH-0.502]; _water ctrlSetText format["%1", life_thirst]; _water ctrlCommit 0; //Update Health _health ctrlSetPosition [safeZoneX+safeZoneW-0.090,safeZoneY+safeZoneH-0.456]; _health ctrlSetText format["%1", round((1 - (damage player)) * 100)]; _health ctrlCommit 0; Now call me crazy but I am 100% positive that you did not make the HUD which is used in your published version of Stratis life so therefor your claims of it being yours initially is false as usual and as for the claim of them being the same and unchanged well lets face it, they are not the same. The only similarities they have is that 404Games used my code to work with Sa-Matra's build of Wasteland so therefor the code is deformed from its original state regardless of the fact they're not the same and even if they were it was my code to begin with.

What type of horse crap are you spouting now? I will post the exact same response that I did awhile ago on my website. You want code comparison then here you go: http://tonic.pw/stratis_life_v1a.Stratis.rar (This is the stratis life that I wrote for Seal team sloth) http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=19783 That is what you produced. HUD stolen from you? It was taken from Wasteland and ding ding ding guess what? I made wasteland. Icons taken? Again Wasteland ding ding ding and in-fact one specific icon which is the water icon is used from Sa-Matra's build of Wasteland with his permission. The hud that you made if I recall correctly you didn't even make it. You took it from 404Games build of Wasteland which was a mixture of both my build of Wasteland and Sa-Matra's. The Stratis life that I wrote and never released was derived from my Wasteland code, don't believe me? Compare it: http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=17636 When ARMA 3 Release came around I spent a week reworking the code from the Stratis life I built to make Altis life and continued to change it even after release. As I've said on my own forums the only thing(s) that they have in common or similarity are the sounds (Which you took from the older life missions on ARMA 2) and the name. Don't go off spreading lies about me 'stealing' your work. Your work made me want to vomit all over my computer when I looked at the code and the countless mistakes made in it but because I had very fond memories on Chernarus life, Zargabad life, takistan life I decided to make my own for one specific community which is seal team sloth in which I am no longer affiliated with or have been for over a year.
  17. Here is how to get it to work if you were having the network issue. 1. Copy the folder LT to your arma directory and do not rename it, if you used pw6 rename it to just LT and not @LT 2. Copy the LTLauncher to your desktop or whatever you want it 3. Go into LTLauncher and right click each file separately and goto Properties and at the bottom it will most likely say that this file is blocked because it was transferred from another computer. Just press Unblock and repeat the process for each file. 4. Edit Config.ini and edit ArmaDirectory, make sure it points to the directory where ARMA 3 is installed in my case it looks like this: ArmaDirectory=D:\Steam\steamapps\common\Arma 3\ 5. Open the launcher (Run as Administrator) and click SOLO HOST and then play.
  18. If he was storing coordinates he can just do: _data = lbSetData [1500, _index, str(getPosATL _x)]; Then when he needs to utilize it he can just do call compile on the data field to compile it to an array. It's a bit more of a pain with objects however. With units I've always had to name them something like unit_1, unit_2,unit_3 etc etc to be able to store and compile it for later use as there is no real effective solution for converting an object to str and then compiling back as an object if no varName is set. But no doubt it would be nice to be able to store other data types besides a string in the data field.
  19. Ah, you were right. They must of changed that in the past 5 months or so. I was just going to suggest using Battleye.
  20. It is global. switchMove is local. When you hover over the icons on the wiki it will explain the effects, if you see EG then it means the effects will carry over the network and execute on every client where as EL will only have a local effect and not a global effect.
  21. tonic-_-

Max numbers of units per group

It's good to know that. Essentially you can only have 144 groups active at a time but the amount of units that you can put in a group is pretty much infinite.
  22. Logged by both arma and battleye. When a client connects to the server it outprints 4-5 lines of information which will include their player id, name, ip and guid.
  23. You could create an extension that is called onPlayerConnected that parses the logs for their name or playerid and returns the IP address. Either way with communicating with Teamspeak it will get tricky.
  24. Here is screen shots of their folder structure sent to me by a moderator on my forums. http://gyazo.com/833e667e536046b3dd3cd4abfb29d0b3 http://gyazo.com/e9a4af0560f109a50e05a0b470599310 http://gyazo.com/86c5133f80bcdd9425f57b5ed0b005cc http://gyazo.com/a876797fcc0c12dd56f5485a17a0d1ac From what I can see they are using the following: Kiory's Random Hat Madness (Source files) Ivory Aircraft - CRJ-200 Ivory Aircraft - T6A Ivory Aircraft - ERJ 135 FLAY's HangGlider Blastcore TFAR etc etc The full list is in the screen shots.
