  1. I regret this immensely but you give me little alternative. I have written to BIS (emailed via a customer contact form, ‘hard to get hold of’, a detailed letter will follow tomorrow 16/11/2011, managed to find their address:cool:), regarding pm’s I have sent to moderators concerning matters of this forum that happened a number of weeks ago. I received no contact whatsoever from the moderators, although this does not seem odd, as they don't seem to read:rolleyes: The matters were of a legal subject with very serious consequences :(… (much more serious than you removing yet another of my posts here I see:mad:).. A reply to this post is not required.. I know BIS most definitely will reply to the contact I have made with them. I would reply to their email when they contact you, as I am sure they will ;).. Don't suppose this post will be here that long:p
  2. One has to get one’s fps from somewhere, if that’s what you mean, because to me its all toooo confusing, just playing with settings until my computer shouts stop… which luckily for me it hasn’t yet, speak too soon perhaps.. Oh I don’t just write down my fps its just on the ‘dvd’ mod readout, it’s exactly the same on fraps... .
  3. I am the only one that linked to actual information from people who do this for a living. That is what this topic is about giving people as much info as pos. Having a PC built does not make you an expert although you and ‘Bangtail’ seem to think it does. I linked to sites giving genuine information, you have not, you just give your view without trying to help back that view up. Forums are for views, but when it comes to pointing someone in the direction of a possible purchase then there is a responsibility to that person, simply having one off statements without some sort of detailed explanation is misleading and irresponsible. I bought my first PC a little over 30yrs ago, first gaming console was a Atari 2600 + then an Amiga (commodore) and every console since including the Philips early cd console. PC wise I have worked my way through literally hundreds of PC’s over the yrs, I had a small system for my business (23) which were changed every 2yrs, plus too many personal home PC’s to list, so I have had a few over the years and have had many makes and types. But none of that makes me an expert, that’s why I try to point people in the right direction linking to sites that test many, in this case, cards of all makes. Certainly at no point have I been frustrated regards anything anyone on this forum can or have said, at my age I’m way past getting frustrated over comments from people, everyone is entitled to an opinion, its just when it points someone in a possible purchase direction a responsibility becomes attached. A personal view is valid, but a view that says a card ‘is not as good as another for Arma2’ should be backed up. I have never said anywhere on this forum that any one card is better than another, just provided link to sites that may help someone make an informed decision, not hearsay from amateur experts.. .
  4. Another link to a site that does not test... Read it...
  5. Toms Hardware is one opinion, where are the tests that the site has done, it seems more of a forum than actually testing anything.. Type in GTX295 in the search and you get a forum, no tests, if there are any test articles from Toms Hardware put them up here.. "A 6970 isnt faster than a 295 in arma 2." page 782 Leon, sounds like he's saying the 295 is better to me... But I forgot you can’t show us any useful information can you... Toms Hardware  stop the world I wanna get off... .
  6. 'Red Lines' top and left screen; Yes I had it whilst playing around with setting’s (I’m always messing around even tho my A2 runs great:j:), it is something to do with AMD’s AA settings in the CCC.. My settings now (no red lines) CCC: (may help someone) Smoothvision HD: Anti-Aliasing = ‘Use application settings’ Smoothvision HD: Anisotropic Filtering = ‘Use application settings’ Tesselation = ‘Use application settings’ Catalyst A.I. = ‘Quality’ setting (middle slider) with Surface Format Optimization ‘Enabled’ (tick box) Mipmap Detail Level = ‘Quality’ setting (second from right on slider) Wait for vertical refresh = ‘Performance, Always Off’ (slider to left) Anti-Aliasing Mode = ‘Adaptive Multi-sample AA (middle slider) OpenGL Settings = Triple buffering ‘Enabled’ (tick box) .
  7. I understand that, however, when someone says one card is not as good as another card that’s fine, but back it up with at least some test results, owning a card and becoming attached to its brand does not necessarily make it a better card than another. I have no leaning towards any brand, provided it does what it should do and has decent backup/updates, then branding is not important, I own a reasonably out of date card but it does a great job, so I am not saying because its an older card the GTX295 is not a great card, it probably is, but then don’t tell me its better than another without showing me some test results to back it up. Lets be honest most people new to gaming or at least PC gaming buy cards after first researching a lot, and the researching tends to be done on the internet primarily, so give an unbiased view, not make a statement that a certain card is better than another, that’s just misleading anyone who happens to be researching for a new card.. If your prepared to say its better, show some evidence i.e. tests reviews that shows its performance is better that the other card.. Most on-line tests show the HD6970 to be better than the GTX295, I was told that the card being put into my PC was going to do a good job, I still researched a little before saying yes put it in the machine, I used test reviews, they are out there even ones tested on A2/OA as I listed previously and here again, that’s helping point someone in the right direction to make an informed decision… 'Mine is better than yours' syndrome, is just childish.. .
  8. The more I explore this island the more I love it.. The forts are great especially ‘Mike 1’, looking over Al Jebel, views on foot from the watch towers and in the air are breathtaking. I thought the ai might struggle driving along the perilous tracks through these beautiful deep valleys, but no worries at all, I set him on ‘Limited’ speed, as the roads are too winding and dangerous for ‘Normal’, and he handled it supremely.. Really great work.. Thanks again.. .

    MCC Sandbox - The Mod

Lots to learn in this mod, a credit to you and all that contributed to it, an amazing sandbox.. Thank you for releasing it for us all to use.. .
  10. Just downloaded this now from SU, looks fantastic, great work. And thank you.. .
  11. I was simply pointing towards a very respected view, the site I would look to when choosing a card, would be ‘Overclockers Club’ not here. There are no actual tests shown on here showing fps in A2, you tend to have the same people responding to posters regarding cpu’s & gpu’s, of which, many will tell you that this card and that card won’t do and that Arma2 is different when it comes to gpu’s & cpu’s which I agree with, to a point, but some concrete facts would be nice. Talk is very easy, show some test results, don’t just talk cards down, when in reality they probably run A2 very well indeed, if I would have took the views of some on this site when researching my A2 PC then I would not have my out of date HD5850 2gb Toxic, because that cannot run A2, can it…:butbut: No of course not... Proper test's, not talk, similar to this.. PuFu best check out the GTX590 results, I think he has no need to worry.. .
  12. Just looking at the ‘Overclockers’ review/test and running Crisis Warhead (no A2 test) the GTX295 runs average on 1920x1200res 32fps, the HD6970 on the other hand runs the same res at average 52fps, which pulls out at the same as the GTX580.. ---------- Post added at 03:03 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:54 AM ---------- Don't think you'll worry much about running the game 1920x1200res 77fps ;) .
  13. Check out Overclockers Club reviews, great indepth reviews plus testing.. You sure..
  14. I only use the main editor so am not too sure regards the simpler scenario editor, anyway lets have a go; Go into scenario click ‘My Missions’ then ‘New Mission’, decide which quick simple game you would like, when I say simple I mean simple to set up, may take you ages to complete it, anyhow, once you decide (quick ‘Basic’ is good to start with), expand it to allow you to choose your side Blufor (west) or Opfor (east), say you click ‘Blufor’ little menu will come up, now ‘Name’ your mission, be sure to give it a name so you can come back to it, choose the map you want to play on, then click units, it will tell you what is provided as standard, go into edit, a small menu offering you the option to alter, change, add to etc, you will see infantry, vehicles, armour etc, choose what you want to play as and how many men you want (you can add some more later this is your main group here you are to command) add a man or two. Once you have chosen which you would like to play as change the enemy amount, type etc or just leave it as it is. That done choose the weather you want also time & date you want to set your mission. Now ‘Parameters’ click this and set the ‘Ambient’ combat, low is default but you can set it for more etc, ambient combat is the occasional enemy or friendly contact the computer will automatically produce during your mission, on the way to your main objective, the higher the ambient setting the more the additional combat. Now go into edit, a map will pop up showing the simple scenario you have created, in basic its really just destroy the outpost and get to the final destination, however here you can move the green icons on the map also the outpost if you want also you can add more action, for instance double click on the map a menu will appear to allow you to add units either enemy or friendly, add one for now, then click once on the unit you created and double ‘right click’ somewhere you would like the unit to move to on the map a ‘waypoint’ will appear, double click the waypoint and set the behaviour etc, so first the type of order you want it to carry out i.e. ‘Move’, ‘Destroy’, ‘Get In Nearest’ etc, then set the behaviour, safe, aware, combat etc, aware is good to start on, now the formation, if it’s a group you will see the different formations you can have them move in, now the combat mode, ‘open fire’ or ‘open fire engage at will’ are the ones to choose for a simple set up, you can of course choose any. Once you complete that ’Esc’ to close the menu, if you want to add more waypoints repeat the same, click once on the waypoint then right click the map and so on. Add units and give waypoints to them, then your mission will be built. When you have finished ’Preview’ your mission choose the difficulty level then play. The map will appear giving a general outline showing units etc, click continue and play your mission, if you want to come out of the mission ’Esc’ and abort, provided you gave your mission a name you can go back to it edit it again if you want and re-play it.. When you first get into your mission the men you chose to have with you will be on the map, in the bottom left corner of your screen you will see their icon’s, now click ‘F2’ the icon will be highlighted for that unit also a small menu will appear with some quick orders to give him i.e. move there etc, experiment moving him around. Now F2,3,4 etc to highlight your units press any of the numbers i.e. 7 will give you behaviour, stance etc, press different numbers for different commands. Making simple missions is fairly simple in the scenario editor more complex missions can take a long time to finish and best done in the main editor, but part of the fun is building the missions. That’s a brief look at the scenario editor, its simple and easy once you have done it for the first time. My advice would be to use the main ’Editor’ to make really complex mission after getting used to it first.. There are lots of vehicles, aircraft, armour, infantry etc to choose from but there is a large amount of mods available from the talented mod making community that can add armies, vehicles, aircraft in-fact everything to keep you happy… If you command a group you can order them into a vehicle and then order them to get out again, all or just one or two, just highlight their icon bottom left screen and the easiest way is just to look at the vehicle you want them to get in and a symbol will appear to make it easy, when you want them out highlight icon and tell them to disembark.. Load-outs are fixed unless you use simple scripts, easiest way to begin with is select an ammo crate put it where your group is on the map and load-out in game.. If you choose to play as a commander use the ‘High Command’ module and the ‘Subordinate Command’ module to set up a chain of command, I would leave that till later for now, but yes you can be the commander of a whole army if you want to, and command them from the map if that is your wish.. .

    Armaii reinforcement question

I have ‘Arma2’, ‘Operation Arrowhead’ & ‘Reinforcements’ but they tend to add bits here and there so some of the packages are the better option. I would go for Arma2 next if your going to buy a single one, but in the long term you need Operation Arrowhead (not lite version) as well, just to make sure you have full access to all the great islands content & the great mods that are available which is what makes the Arma series so great, islands, weapons, armies, vehicles, aircraft etc, etc could go on for 2 pages, there is that much out there, available from this forum.. My advice would be a launcher SU (Six Updater), I tend to go on about SU a lot but I have found it perfect for downloading and keeping mods organised plus it updates them all automatically so have a look and see if its any use to you.. .
  16. 'Oddfuturewolfgang' When you get started, and if you do get any performance problems make sure you are patched to the latest patch; Arma2 = 1.10 or Operation Arrowhead = 1.59 as there have been many improvements over the last 12mths or so. Also check out performance mods if you do experience any problems as there are a few that will help with improving performance a little i.e. ‘DVD’, ‘Sap Clutter’ are the two I use, DVD will automatically change your view distance in favour of fps and Sap Clutter will reduce the foliage a little to help boost fps etc.. But don’t think I’m saying you will have problems just don’t worry if you do there are things available to help sort it out and its free.. Set view distance at 2500-3000 to begin with as 10000 is, well lets say nooooooo...
  17. I think your going to get some on here saying you will only get this or that in settings and you should have got this type of cpu or card etc.. I think your going to be really o.k. with that, shame the card is just 1Gb, however. I would think high or very high settings, however if that’s not pos normal settings with high shadows and to be honest there is not really that much difference.. There may be a little lost in the jpeg transfer but you get the idea.. Hope you get great settings and enjoy the game with not too many problems.. Oh and welcome, 'Oddfuturewolfgang' .

    Armaii reinforcement question

I don't think it contains 'Operation Arrowhead' it does have a small campaign and the extra factions 'BAF' & 'PMC', but I think you would have been better with 'Combined Operations' or one of the anniversary editions that contain the whole Arma series.. If it does contain OA you need it patched to 1.59, not sure if that is available on a lite version which is what you may have if its been added to 'Reinforcements' .

How many people still play this?

Have you thought of using a launcher, something like SU (Six Updater), you can make several 'Presets' so when you go online each preset can have its own set of mods, then once your presets are setup its just a click of the mouse button and your away. Also SU has a very good MP server selection built in, you can wander through choosing the best for you, plus it lets you know which mods are needed etc, and you can download them there and then and put them straight into a preset plus go straight to the server, well worth a look at.. Other than that and to answer your question, it’s the best military game/sim on the planet, if you can get used to using all the controls and don’t let it overwhelm you, it will reward you in every way that you want it to.. Get into the ‘Editor’, there’s a whole world of things to do in there..;) .

    Would i like ArmA?

Your four questions: answer ‘Yes’ Combined Operations (Arma2 & Operation Arrowhead).. Then welcome to Armaverse... .
  23. Does it make a difference lowering Win7 settings.., I don’t know, my guess would be yes, it must help, I suppose that’s why he recommended it.. Would it be worth it on a high end system.., my answer to that would be, why isn't it running it well already.. .
