I've just experienced this bug; is any fix forthcoming?
-
I am trying to get an artillery battery to fire, as if on a fire mission. I have found this script: http://wiki.zspecialunit.org/index.php?title=ArmA_2_Mission_Editing_Code_Examples_and_Hints#Artillery_script_for_sporadic_fire But just can't get it to work. I am too new to the editor to understand what it all means. I followed the instructions, but I either get a "Cannot Find Script" error message (so I enter the whole path of the text file), or nothing happens. Can anyone talk me through this, or show me an easier way to get artillery to fire. I don't care where or how often, I just want my battery to fire, as if it's firing at something.

2 Questions: Artillery AI and AI in the mission editor

Thanks for the reply ST_Dux. I'll look into the scripts you suggested, especially UPSMON. I never realised just how powerful the editor was, it's really quite fun considering the possibilities. -
2 Questions: Artillery AI and AI in the mission editor
Mighty_Joker posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Questions 1: As a total newbie to the editor (and to the game in general really) I've had great fun learning how to place artillery arrays for use when the player calls it. Now, I'm wondering if there's any way to get the AI to use the artillery without my picking a target. I know that if you place some M119s within range of an enemy, they will fire at that enemy (sometimes anyway, I can't always get them to), but is there any way to get them to fire at positions located by other AI squads? For example, AI squad 1 spots an enemy, and the AI artillery battery fires at that position. Is there any other way to bring artillery into a mission? Question 2: When setting up in the editor, I seem to be limited by waypoints. I have absolutely zero scripting knowledge, but am willing to learn a few good commands if it will achieve my purposes. Basically, how can I get placed squads to patrol, attack various checkpoints, spawn randomly; basically act in a higher-order way than just placing a Seek and Destroy or Guard waypoint? I know there is lots of documentation about the editor, which I am reading through, but very little of it is newbie-friendly. All assume some level of understanding where to put what and terminology. Thanks -
In games such a Warfare, and even during the SP missions, my squad-mates are spotting enemy soldiers hundreds of meters away and engaging them. I find myself spending the whole engagement holding the right mouse button to zoom in just trying to find them. This is especially acute in Arma 2 vanilla where the clock indicator doesn't work. Saying "200 meters to our right" isn't very helpful in a large and populated map. What are some settings I can turn on that will help to point out the enemies. Sometimes when a squad leaders orders me to engage, I get a red target appear. Is there anyway for this to pop up to notify my of an enemy's positions. Thanks P.S. The game is at max settings, so it's nothing to do with visibility or poor graphics.

That seems to be the only one. The B02 Combat mission works with OA content, but crashes with Chernarus. I've also had a freeze at "receiving" when trying to load Takistani units on Chernarus, which makes me suspect that it's a Combined Operations issue. I have retail Arma 2 and Steam OA, which I launch with "Launch Combined Operations". I don't know what else to try. -
I am getting this message when attempting to load the B02 Combat "My Missions" scenario. Furthermore, the game freezes on "Receiving" when I try to load the BAF SecOps in Chernarus. Could this be a faulty download? I have tried reinstalling BAF, but the problem persists. Any ideas? thanks

I have retail Arma 2, and have just bought OA on Steam. Under Steam, there is the option to launch combined operations, which seems to run a CMD pointing it to the Arma 2 folder. When the game loads, everything is present, including all Arma 2 content, and it is shown under "Expansions", so it seems to load successfully. The thing is, while most things work just fine, the odd thing seems to crash it on "Receiving". For example, it cannot load the "My Missions" B02 Combat. And just now, I was playing with the editor on Chernaraus (sp?), using BAF content, which worked fine. However, when I inserted a Takistani Army unit into the map, it froze on "Receiving" again. Does anyone have any idea why this might be the case? I have a totally clean install of Arma 2, OA and BAF DLC, and 90% of the game seems to work without a problem. There seems to be a few instances though, where it cannot load something. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks ---------- Post added at 01:37 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:32 PM ---------- It has just occured to me that my Arma 2 is only version 1.7.7. I am now downloading ths 1.8 patch, could this be the issue?
