  1. Also everyone warps!? Like 2-3 metres... Obviously this is known about but looks bad.

    This.

I am still kinda new to the A2 scene but it is beyond me how in every mod, every server, no matter if it is coop or PvP, every one warps (either just a little or very much) and ppl go by like nothing is wrong... Perhaps I am still so new that i pay attention to the teleporting bots or players.

    Take a look at this:

Everything looks so nice, absolutely freaking beautiful to be honest, until you notice that everything is warping back n forth like crazy. Seriously...

I can imagine that such a huge maps take a toll on the connections etc but still... any other game with such a warping would be out of players in no time. The huge fanboy base is the only one keeping alive the small MP scene...

With all these huge maps and awesome atmosphere, I was expecting huge battles of 64+ vs 64+ (PvP) and all i got was few random ppl shooting warping bots from 1km with sniper rifles...

  2. Hi Guys,

Love this mod but have found that bazooka shots can somtimes go pass right thru the germann Sd.Kfz 222. If I set up a simple mission in the editor and shoot a bazooka from 20m or more, somtimes it passes thru the 222 and lands in the distance. We have the mod installled on several computers and they all have the same problem. Has anyone notices this?

That might explain why I missed the 222 three times from 5m in Left Behind mission :-/

  3. Could I ask that the pre existing MP Missions have an option added to turn grass off.

My computer is OLD (year 2001 model specifically Dell Dimension 4600) and grass lags me horribly.

Also I like D-Day, but could we somehow alter it so that we get the whole atmosphere without the lag inducing extra AI and perhaps slim it down to a smaller area.

2001 model might be way too old to run this game.

Anyway, what I would like to see is that the most common server owners (*cough* KH *cough*) would allow some wiggle room with addons. Like allow ppl to lower the VD on the fly with MWVD and so on. And perhaps some PROPER and GDT grass/house/environment tweak addons etc. Something that does not create a huge advantage ( read: cheat) but gives the client some more needed FPS to play.

I would also like to see the 3rd person cheat-mode ;) and ironsight removed from some, yet again unnamed, (*cough* KH *cough*) servers...

  4. I don't see the point

That was just general handling of Stug in that video. Although it does spin around quite fast and it seems that mg bullets make Stuarts and Shermans blow up...

The tank gameplay mechanics and its flaws are vanilla A2's fault afaik. No decent hit-modelling afaik. When you hit someone, you don't really hear or feel if you hit the target or not. Same goes when you are hit, you just find out that the tank crew left the tank and then you check the upper left corner and see that your tank is almost blown up and then you wonder when and how did this happen :-/ I could imagine that a shell makes quite a noise when it hits.

There are several things that just make the tank handling a bit weird.

  5. OP pretty much described how the A2 movement feels to me too. It is clunky and small sideway moves feel spastic. And by reading other gaming forums, a lot of ppl feel the same way.

The game is still playable and I am already used to the clunkiness but I can't imagine that it is helping to get more players to the game when they feel that the avatar movement is so awkward when trying A2 demo for example...

  6. Afaik, most of the servers wont allow running GDT Plants mod to disable the grass lod switching. Is there some other way to disable them and still play online? To me that switching is a huge immersion breaker and I just want it gone...

  7. I think it would be enough if BI implemented a system where you click a server to join it and if you don't have the mods needed to play in it, you will automagically download them from some fastdownload server and if you have the mods the game will enable them on the run, and if you have some mods running that are not allowed in the server, well they will be disabled on the fly.

And don't tell me to use AddonSync, cos I already do and it is just a half-way solution, which doesnt work that well.

  8. Is it because...

    - poor marketing.

    - AI in many multi player games?

    - Lack of dedicated servers for online PvP games?

At least the last 2 are true in my opinion.

It was disappointing to see that there isnt hardly any PvP action going on and rest of the MP-scene is co-op missions with bunch of players, all with sniper rifles shooting bots from 800 meters.

Don't know where you heard this ... but as you found out it is WAY wrong!

Arma2 is buggy. Isn't that common knowledge? But it still is worth playing.

There are LOTS of servers worldwide, hosting a variety of missions. Just doing SP is really wasting the potential of the game.

The purchase will be the BEST decision you ever make in your life !

Kind regards and welcome to the community

    I would take all that with a grain of salt. LOTS is quite relative when it comes to A2. Most ppl seem to play with 3-6 player COOPs;

If the OP is looking for PR type of FPS-action, well he is going to be disappointed. At least till A2:PR is released.

  10. Any warping in the video is probably due to the lag causes by SFG in the states playing on a UK based server... still pretty decent by ArmA2 standards!

Decent, oh noes.. I've yet to play vanilla Arma2 online that much but that warping was really awful in that video.

I've now tried I44 in about 3-4 servers (with pings from 30 to 150), with bots and with human players and every time the bots and as well the human players warp so much that hitting moving targets is annoying and just seeing the whole warp effect is off putting. Is this all because of A2 netcode or do I have something wrong with my configs or whatnot?

  11. about 5 US soldiers firing bazookas and no one hits it...

Out of curiosity, is there something wrong with the zooks in-game?

I had trouble hitting a Puma (or what was it in the Left Behind mission) from about 3 meters. I missed all 3 shots and was like ????

Here is some footage from a great session on Kelly's Heroes today.

Looks nice but what is with the players and tanks warping like that?

  12. I am not so sure those questions above are suited for this topic in particular but here goes anyways;

    Finland at War 39-45

    http://www.moddb.com/mods/fww2-finland-at-war-1939-1945

(they said they'll port to A2 when they finish A1)

Arma2 (ww2 mods) and RO are no that comparable imo. They serve different purpose. They are just too different. However my opinion (others will disagree); RO is a small scale fast paced action shooter, some say a bit clunky, and with ping-pong tanks. Arma2 ww2 stuff so far (my experience) is super clunky as A2 stuff usually are, slow paced and huge maps with good looking exterior tanks while everything else in tanks is imo better in RO and more immersive to drive/shoot. In A2 you don't notice if your tank gets hit or not :-/

In RO you can play multiplayer games whenever you so choose to, in A2's WW2 scene that is not possible, in other words A2WW2 mp scene is almost non-existent. I hope I44 2.5 fixes this. Summa summarum; if you expect RO type gameplay from A2WW2 mods, you will be disappointed.

  13. I would suggest getting rid of the steam A2 and getting a DVD or sprocket version, steam is a pain in the arse to mod and you have to wait longer for the patches.

Then you can use tools like ArmA II Game Launcher orArmA II Launcher to start the game and choose what mods you want running quite easily.

After all Steam is not that bad thing for Arma2 as it is usually portrayed.

You can already use Arma 2 Launcher etc with Steam version. So you don't have to get rid of it in anyway. It took 11 days extra for Steam to update the game. However, one could have updated the Steam version manually before that, just like _everyone else_ had to do. Steams automatic updating is actually a good feature for casual gamers.

Perhaps next time BI waits till the Steam version starts to update and then releases the manual patch download links? I guess pathological gamers would be against this...

Imo, A2 should have had a built-in mod/addon GUI Launcher from the start. Steam version or not. All this -mod @blaablaa is not practical when there are 10+ mods to load and puts off casual players ( which every game needs as much as possible to maintain a player base for pathological gamers ;-/ )

  14. 1. An addon that makes the tank drivers Turn In-view more wider so you don't have to Turn Out all the time to see. + on top of that a 360 deg. turning view for driver like the commander has to those tanks that have it in real life + thermals to that.

    2. An addon where you feel and hear that you really were hit by a tank shell when you are the receiving end tank.

    3. An addon that makes the "Enemy, 200m, 9 oclock"-announcement less robotic and natural. + it is broadcasted thru radio only if the receivers are more then 10m away.
