Alt Tabbed - Closing a file throws me back into the game

Well then you're out of luck i guess, probably an Arma 3 bug, maybe open a ticket. -
Alt Tabbed - Closing a file throws me back into the game
Hellhound replied to Pac Man's topic in ARMA 3 - TROUBLESHOOTING
I've had this behaviour in the past too with some game, what you need to do is following (prevent windows from stealing focus). http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windowsxp/ht/stealingfocus02.htm after reboot it should all be good. -
haha, now that's funny :) I remember a poll about going with steam that was voted pretty much 66% flat out against it. And we all know how that played out :( .

Hellhound replied to fabrizio_t's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
I visited a friend tonight who bought arma3 alpha so i tried it out a bit (i don't own it 'cauze i don't do steam). I'll break it down to what i liked and didn't like from the alpha (played a bit in the editor). The Good: - Like the new stance system - Weather system - New Sounds - Physics (although it needs ALOT of tweaking). The Bad: - CPU usage is still horrible , like it is in Arma2 .I tried in the editor 32x32 AI and got 30fps at 40% CPU usage, after that i tried 64x64 and got less then 20fps and the CPU was still only used 40%, (i7 [email protected] GHZ) I always was told that AI is heavy on the CPU, well i'm not seeing that, wish it was. This should be top priority. - Still no gun resting like in Red Orchestra 2 or bipod usage like ACE. - The Gun sway , even in crouched position when you would rest the gun with your arm it sways like mad. - Zooming Scopes is still very laggy (dropping from 50+ to 25) - Midrange textures look terrible (blurry mes). - No easy way to make custom loadouts without going with all the commands. - No lights can be shot out (runway lights and lights from lamp posts, i know it's alpha but i have a feeling they ripped it out completely). - Running speed is way too fast, feels like floating also. - Autohealing ? (when you get blood on the screen and it disappears). - Don't like the whole future setting. Personally I don't like the location (doesn't feel like a known war location, more like a holiday island). It feels a lot like Arma2 with some added stuff and made more gamey. It's a shame it still hasn't addressed the fundamental problems this engine has. I have a feeling BI is aiming at the BF3 players, it feels more like a generic run and gun shooter now (you only have to look at the youtube vids people are posting). It probably brings in the money (untill BF4 comes along, and people start to migrate to greener pastures). The bright side for me is, i don't feel as bad now as i did for BI going steam exclusive, i like arma 2 better, and unless there's gonna be a steam free version, i'll skip this one. -
No offense, but i really don't see the problem here. What i mean is this, given the fact that by buying this game on steam you are already giving up on consumer rights in the first place, why bother with the rest ? The whole steam workshop is just the icing on the cake.

Hey, just like Arma3, nice!

Any 3D rendering program will do that for you (100% CPU usage on all cores). And these programs are not designed as benchmark applications, but to render images/movies (and therefore take as much advantage of your CPU as it can). When i render with Lightwave 3D it uses all my 8 HT cores of my core i7 CPU to the full extent, and i'm sure it's the same with Maya. 3Dmax, XSI, Houdini etc..).

I don't know how this steam workshop works, but it could be like "what has been seen can not be unseen" for all i care. What i mean by that is: with unreal tournament for instance you could go into a server that had a certain map running and you didn't have that map, it would be automatically downloaded (and you would have that map to do whatever you wanted with it), this could very well be the same with mods for arma3 (i don't know how this works with steam). All i know is that i uploaded a 3d render to an obscure lightwave 3d newsgroup some 14 years ago and within a day it was on the frontpage of hardocp.com without my permission, thats how fast it can spread ( i stopped posting my images on line from that moment on). But i'm sure i'm just paranoid for having principles (call me old school if you want).

No offense but you should look up gullible in the dictionary, you might learn something ;) For me, i don't even play online, so it's just stupid practise to launch an external program to tell it to be able to play offline (but you still need to run the program, so it's not even offline 100%). I wonder what the REAL reason is they went STEAM exclusive, because from what i've heard sofar it doesn't add up. Shurely piracy can't be it, since steam games get cracked the minute they are unlocked on steam if i'm correct. This way BIS will only lose money. And what was the poll all about ? , i believe the vast majority was flat out against making this game steam only, so it makes absolutely no sense (in fact i feel stabbed in the back). This is yet another game i won't be purchasing because of steam/origion/ubi EULA that i simple won't accept.

I wonder how all the people who are so in favor of steam and telling the nay sayers to deal with it would feel if we were to replace the game with a real life object, lets say a car. Say your favorite car maker comes out with a great car you've always wanted and have the money to spend on. However, instead of just buying it at your local car dealership they decided that you can only get it from a special dealer. When you buy the car there, you don't actually own the car because you can never sell it later on. You are only renting it for the full purchase price of a car.

goddammit, i just can't believe this. I don't do steam/origin/ubisoft bullshit, so this is no sale from me. I can't believe that they made this mandatory, really unbelievable.

The ultimate thread about Arma 3 anti-cheat discussion

Don't tell me Arma3 is gonna be a steam game, i would be completely pissed and not buy it!, I don't do steam. -
New anti-aliasing algorithm TXAA, Arma 3 potential?
Hellhound replied to james2464's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
TXAA looks VERY promising, i hope it will be available in Arma 3. When it comes to AA i never use the in game way, always override it in the Nvidia CP to at least 4x AA. -
Yeah far away looks great, thats what i meant, normally it would be a lesser LOD level, so should look worse then the mid level LOD.
-
Yeah, gotta agree, the mid level looks even worst then far away

US Army ditches digital camo scheme. Will Arma 3 follow suit?

Hellhound replied to Maio's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
I was referring to someone who said that more polys meant more stress on the CPU, which simply isn't true. In my 20 years of doing 3D it has always been the case that if you want a faster render , you're gonna need a better CPU. Faster viewport response (more polys to work with fully textured etc..) you're gonna want a better GPU. When it comes to collision, physics etc.. that has been traditionally done by the CPU, it's only since the last years we have things like CUDA to take the load of the CPU. The heaven benchmark you mentioned it a DirectX 11 benchmark. so it will be heavy GPU based (I just watched it , and theres not much going on, just a high poly scene with a simple motion path and some shaders, no collision/physics). I'm longing for the day when we can do these FX in realtime but i'm afraid it's gonna take at least 20 years to get there (These pre-calculations can take many hours/weeks/months before you can actually start the final render) :DWhen it comes to Arma i can only look at the GPU , which is at a constant maxed out state, and the CPU hardly doing anything (i7 [email protected]), to know that you better have a beast of a GPU prepared for Arma 3 :D -

Hellhound replied to Maio's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
That is not correct, in a real time environment like a game (or 3d viewports in a 3d render program) , the polys are drawn with the GPU (DirectX, OGL). When you render a scene with a 3d program (3dMax, Maya) etc.., you'll be using the CPU. And tesselation is not taking stress from the CPU, but it's a way to make meshes more smooth (means more polys on screen) and that is also done by the GPU. -
The one, single thing you're most looking forward to?
Hellhound replied to dmarkwick's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Well if i had to pick just one thing, it would be everything :D -
I requested this long time ago in the "Community wishes & ideas" thread, this should be in Arma 3 without any mod, because it just makes sence.

While games may not support HT, with 3d rendering (Lightwave 3d) i found out that enabling HT means my render times are cut in half!.

I'd like BIS to post a whole E3 demo presentation in at least 720P (grabbed with fraps or the like) instead of low quality cams we have seen. Don't get me wrong, it's better to have something then nothing, but i think people will want to see this in the quality it deserves.

Don't think so, but he'll post to his YT channel.

I think it's best to wait for the TotalBiscuit youtube vid. These gamespot guys are more into the console junk.

They're showing Black Ops 2 right now :D
