Update regarding Store.Bistudio & Arma 3 Steam key distribution
Slides replied to Placebo's topic in BOHEMIA INTERACTIVE - GENERAL
Keep getting this when trying to buy from the store: Error code: 30-1002 What up with that? -
Yes, the games industry is one big entity. Which is why it's called the games industry and on account of Steam being the leader for PC games distribution, BIS will continue to have to rely on STEAM for a good portion of their sales. Steam customer support is one of the best in the industry, and while the risk of an account being unfairly banned remains in any digital rights protected online environment, with Steam and Valve's credibility taken into account, there is a good chance you will be dealt with fairly. Steam's success has proven that the model works and is here to stay. It has also been a great way to combat PC game piracy with its ease of access and good deals. ---------- Post added at 01:58 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:57 AM ---------- This includes almost all of the game genres that are immensely popular, thus making Steam an industry leader. The fact that you have 171 Steam games says it all. You wanting to buy a disc version are now the exception to the rule.

The PC game industry has already adopted Steam. There is no question that BIS has NO choice but to offer at the very least sales through Steam, if not total integration. Total integration would be great to have, and great for the user too, but it's up to BIS. Being angry at Steam is not going to change the reality that Steam is the leader of digital game sales and BIS MUST sell through Steam as it has been doing.

I still have a lot of them lying around and anytime I have sold them in the recent past, I have just sold the CD key.
-
Steam is now the only way that I buy games and so do all the people I know who are into gaming. Adding the Creation workshop would make finding and installing mods that much easier. There is no good reason I can think of from a uer point of view to not fully integrate with Steam. ---------- Post added at 09:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:44 PM ---------- Who owns CDs in this day and age? I haven't used my optical drive in years.

I see. Do I need to do anything to fix that? Does verify integrity check work for them? -

No, the patching process that Steam initiates automatically which shows the traditional BIS window for patching files. -

Oh ok, good to know. Though during the 1.60 patching process, I had some errors of a .pbo file missing. Don't remember which one. Is that still ok? -

Already done numerous times. Keeps saying 1 file failed to validate and will be reacquired. If it matters, my Arma2 copy is from the DVD, while OA, BAF and PMC are from Steam. -

How do I reinstall the 1.60 patch in the Steam version of OA/BAF/PMC? -
The 1.60 patch process from Steam gave an error about some .pbo file not being found and was not able to be patched. Running integrity check on game cache in Steam says 1 file failed verification and will be re-downloadable, which never actually happens. ---------- Post added at 01:20 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:12 AM ---------- Here's my RPT file: ---------- Post added at 01:32 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:20 AM ---------- Also, how do I force Steam to re-install the patch or the entire game?

I'm getting similar error with the Steam patch update to 1.60. Not sure how to fix it.

Steam version of Arma2: OA/PMC/BAF. I'm getting errors when during the 1.60 patching process. It says some .pbo file cannot be opened or was not found. How do I fix this? I can still launch the game and it says version 1.60, but not sure if it was properly applied. Thanks

Seems to be an amazing patch. I almost want to pay for it. How can I give BIS money to continue the good work?

The need for integrated surveillance, target acquisition etc.
Slides posted a topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Especially since this will be set in the future, you need to have an electronic battlefield where different units can "see"what other units are seeing. Example, as a tank commander, you should have the ability to view a live UAV feed and get IFF info from an overhead JSTARS aircraft. And the other factor is the availability of radio comms with other units that you are not part of or control. Would really help improve the immerse factor. Nothing better then hearing the radio comms going crazy in the middle of a fire fight (to an extent). -
Better mission editor where you script writing is minimized and where you can use the GUI to do most of the stuff needed for a decent mission.

Agreed. If BIS is promising a future combat simulator, then I would hope they would include some of the current and future tech advancements in ISR. ---------- Post added at 07:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:43 PM ---------- I like the part about the helmet cam too. Imagine being a commander and being able to see real time helmet cam footage of a raid. Or maybe a Comanche pilot who can view the locations of friendly and enemy forces superimposed on his/her HMSD. Of course there should be a degree of inaccuracy built into any such system as there likely would be in any real situation. -

Yes, I should have mentioned, GOOD radio comms with voice actors reading the entire line, not the current level of "x is down" artificial radio comms. I have seen this used to great effect in other games, including flight sims (Jane's F-15/F-18). ---------- Post added at 09:08 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:02 PM ---------- ArmA prides itself as a tactical sim where you are just one small piece of the larger battlefield. Introducing the integrated battlefield aspect of current and future combat would further add to the immerseive factor. Of course, care should be taken that none of this is scripted, as that would take away from the free flowing/dynamic nature of ArmA and nothing could be worse then that for this sim. -

Death Valley- where is gameplay like it?

Takistan isn't actually a real country. Tactics, weapons and strategy add more to the realism then what side one is on. -

Updated 1.01 PMC and 1.57 OA in Steam, but after running them I get error about some pbo file not found and there is no confirmation message saying that 1.01 PMC was successfully installed. Verified Steam files and that seems good. What can I do to make sure that updates were installed? -
ARMA 2: Private Military Company 1.00 released

What's so special about these sights? Just curious. -
Graphical UI can be updated to respond to context instead of just a numbered menu system. Other games have done this.
-
Voice commands can be difficult to use in gameplay. We need a better UI for AI commands

How do you install mods with the steam version of OA?
Slides posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Seriously not one sticky thread to explain this? I don't mean to sound ungrateful, but BIS should put up a separate and dedicated sticky for steam users. Mods are one the biggest reasons people purchase Arma.
