				More Thermal Scopes and Zeroing
last_rifle_round replied to xeno426's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
PSO-1 optics SHOULD have zeroing. The SVD specifically has adjustments not in mils or moa, but in METERS on the turrets. As a squad-attached designated marksman rifle and not a "True" sniper rifle, this makes a whole lot more sense. Basically, you are supposed to use the rangefinder in the lower-left or the mil lines towards the center to range the target, dial in the closest range setting (increments are 100-800m in 50m increments), aim with center chevron, hold off for wind if necessary, and fire. The 4 chevrons are specifically for area fire when at max range adjustment of 800m, so the center chevron is 800m, the first one down is 900m, the 2nd one 1000m, 3rd one 1100m, and the final one is at 1200m. Again, this is supposed to be for area fire only, not engaging with point fire. As far as I know, anything derived of those optics without range adjustment doesn't really make sense, Those chevrons really only come into play when your adjustment is maxed out at 800m -

ACE 1.5 Beta (Advanced Combat Environment)
last_rifle_round replied to xeno's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Is there ballistic information readily available for ACE firearms? I know of the integral range cards, of course, but i was more curious about how the ballistics are actually modeled on for various weapons. For instance, the M110 in vanilla seems to trend exactly with a Sierra .308 HPBT at 2550 f/s muzzle velocity as far as various holds were concerned. ACE, however, appears to change this. I'm not sure what muzzle velocities are modeled and what the ballistics are for the rounds I'm firing, so I can't use ballistic calculators any longer to practice and perfect my long distance marksmanship. -
Anyone know the meaning of the reticle in the M110 TWS? Not sure if those lines are mil stadia or MOA or neither? ---------- Post added at 03:52 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:59 AM ---------- Actually I just answered my own question. Each has subtends to .5 mil. The first hash on either side of the center dot is at 1.5 mil. For example, to hold over 3 mil, you would be holding your target on the 4th has down from the center dot.

				Ballistic charts ready!
last_rifle_round replied to last_rifle_round's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Very cool. How can I get my hands on that? -
I think I've figured out the ballistics charts for the m40a3 and m110. Theoretically it should apply to the M24 as well but I haven't tried it or the DMR. I used JBM software's awesome online ballistic calculator. Most commonly used round in these rifles now is the M118LR, which is a Sierra .308 175gr HPBT. I played with the muzzle velocity, and it seems it's modeled at about 2770fps. I have 2 charts, one for a 300m zero and one for 500m zero. Drop is in mil so you can quickly hold-over instead of constantly adjusting zero (only 100m zeros anyway). I need the communities' help with the following: 1.) At roughtly what mph are the walking/jogging/running speeds in ARMA for calculating lead? 2.) What is the height of an Arma soldier? I've heard 2m, but I find it's about 1.89m (1890mm) for range estimation purposes. Knowing for sure will help developing a sort of range card. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Try these out and let me know how they work for you! I uploaded the 2 charts here in .ods (open office spreadsheet format). http://www.mediafire.com/?rnenxrv9oojlbhb

Anyone know a ballistic calculator you can use with Arma 2 for long-range shots? I know Bulletflight for the iphone would work, but I don't have an iphone. Are there any range cards available? If not, how do you make your own? Questions all for stock Arma Combined Operations, of course.

I've seen videos on youtube showing a map with targeting reticule for artillery, but when I use the "Target artillery" option, I seem to only get a map with no cursor. What am I doing wrong?

				Vanilla Arma 2 hold-off
last_rifle_round replied to last_rifle_round's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
perfect! Thank you! -
I know I posted this before, but I've searched and searched and cannot find the hold-off values for vanilla arma 2 and OA optics such as DMR, Ak w/PSO, etc. Is there any resource at all for these? I have Deadeye's guide but that's only relevant to ACE.

Store-bought US DVD copy of combined ops. Installed Arma 2 just fine, when attempting to install OA i receive the following error every single time: "File not found: D:\OperationArrowhead\ijl15.dll" D:\ of course signifies the DVD drive. Not sure what to do, but it sounds like a faulty disk. Tried moving contents to my HDD, running it from there gives me the same problem. Tried patching Arma 2 to 1.07 first, same thing. Please do not tell me to throw out my RAM, reinstall my OS, buy a new optical drive, rebuild my carbuerator or short sell my home. It's not a problem with my setup, I had both demos installed (uninstalled both before starting my install) and they worked fine. All of my other software works fine.

I have the Amra 2 OA demo loaded up (buying combined ops this weekend!) wasn't sure if this post should be in troubleshooting but.... It appears the acog for Mk17 is off 100m on the bdc markings. If you measure a target using the sight markings or use a rangefinder, and it is at 400m, you actually need to use the 300m hash to hit the target and so on. This makes sense, as it appears the 0 (the red dot) is at 300m, and each has is 100m after, so the 300m is really 400m and so on down the line. Did anybody else notice this? Is this present in the full game? Don't even get me started on the MAAWS....if you try to use the markings on that you will overshoot your target every time. Do they even tell you in the full game how to use the various optics or is it all trial and error like this? It's really hard figuring it out on your own since they don't seem to work true to life, I was hoping maybe the armory or tutorial missions explained how this all is supposed to work in game.

				Thinking about buying-? about ballistics
last_rifle_round replied to last_rifle_round's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
just tried it now actually. There's a designated marksman class that i took out for a spin, looks to me like it's an M-4 w/ACOG Couldn't hit the broadside of a barn with the damn thing. Set up a few BLUFOR at the end of the runway at different distances with tags on so I could see the distance I was shooting. Are there any resources on what the proper hold-offs are in vanilla ARMA 2? THere's plenty out there for ACE, and plenty of links for real-life material, but I can't seem to find any for vanilla ARMA. -

I see. So basically I'll need ACE to play this the way I want to. Can I get combined Ops and play with ACE for the ARMA 2 portion, or do I need Arma2 standalone for that? I know they're releasing an ACE for OA soon, but I didn't know if combined ops was a whole different animal or if I could at least enjoy ACE in the meantime. -

I just remember skimming through some posts stating that the mil-dot scopes may not measure properly in ARMA, and the M4/M16 ACOG BDC isn't right. Never heard the Dragunov wasn't working. -
Thinking about picking up ARMA 2 + OA, but I was wondering if the optics in the game are fully functionially. I.e., if I use the ACOG sight, measure the shoulder width of my target and fire a round, is the range proper? Do the sights actually work and correlate to the ranges they display, or is a mod of some sort necessary (such as ACE2?).
