is real virtuality engine robust enough for MMORPG?
psyclum posted a topic in BOHEMIA INTERACTIVE - GENERAL
it seems strange to me that BIS hasn't licensed out the tech behind real virtuality to a MMORPG developer. personally, i'd love to see a sci-fi based MMORPG using the arma2 engine. maybe something like a anarchy online 2 type game but you can actually aim particular body parts when you kill things:D -
What if CryEngine was used as Arma 3 future engine?
psyclum replied to jonneymendoza's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
IMO, the engine needs some refinement like better transition for opening doors or going from prone to crouch and stand. it's kinda bad when i'm crawling over a rock and suddenly my gun is aimed skyward like I'm holding up a flag pole or something. maybe have some kind of mouse wheel transition option for going from prone to crouch and stand. same thing with doors so you can crack open the door w/o fully opening it.(kinda like ghost recon/rainbow 6) so you can crack the door open and sneak a flashbang in there w/o advertising your entrance to the whole world. aside from that, ARMA2 has one of the most impressive engine on the market today. and the ONLY engine that allows you to render out to 10km of clipping plane. it's really the only engine that allows for semi realistic sniping(aside from sniper elite) and quasi stalking. when i showed my CoD/MW2 friends how sniping is REALLY done with a M107 and 1500m away, they tend to raise their brows:) IMO, the engine needs some optimization, then licensed to other games so that other games can utilize the capabilities of ARMA2 but with better interface and smaller learning curve:D -
New ARMA2 OA Beta Patch 72291 Available!
psyclum replied to AnimalMother92's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
this patch seems to either have a memory leak or uses more memory. was gaming fine before this patch, but after this patch, i would crash out with memory issues. -
personally I like to see smoother transition between prone, knee, and stand. personally I play sniper style and alot of the time when i creep up to a town and hiding behind a rock, i like to poke my head out abit to scout the town w/o having to expose half of my torso to enemy fire. kinda like how rainbow six did with the mouse wheel to cracking open a door and roll a flashbang into a room w/o fully opening the door. the geometry when crawling over a rock or a crumbled wall is the only real weakness in the game IMO.

it's too bad that sniper elite didn't do as well at the stores since it's an absolutely kick arse game. I've tried to get my fill with GRAW2 but it's just not quite the same since GRAW2 has "small" maps and no consideration for gravity/wind. the ONLY game capable of duplicating sniper elite's feel IMO is ARMA2 due to the map size and gravity calculation. (granted there is no windage calculation but sniper elite has much smaller maps then ARMA2 so that kinda cancels out the difficulty factor) so, I was wondering if anyone who is familiar with scripting/map editing that is also a fan of Sniper Elite can make a map that simulates the experience in sniper elite either a single player map or multiplayer map.
