    Extreme lag

*solved see post below this* Hello, I have this same problem, but deleting the .cfg file did not help. Does anyone know a solution to this? The game used to work great for me, but I haven't played it since Christmas so I had to reinstall it with the latest patches. My OS is up to date with new drivers. The game should be fast, but the main menu keeps freezing every couple of seconds. In case you need more information, here goes: C2D @ 3.5ghz AMD HD 5870 SSD with plenty of free space Windows 7, 64bit, service pack one All drivers up to date All background stuff disabled (firewall, virus shield, etc) And all other games work perfectly Game has the latest patches, first I installed them for Arma 2, and then I installed OA and the latest patch for that. When I look at task manager, it shows that the CPU usage goes to 100% while in the main menu, and the game starts to freeze. It happens in Combined Operations, but the same thing happens even if I just run the original Arma2. Please help if you can, I am dying to play.. ---------- Post added at 10:40 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:23 PM ---------- Ahh it's solved now. I just rebooted and now it works. I'm thinking there must be something in the install process or the patch process that tampers with the game or something, so a reboot fixes it.

    ArmA2:Oa Patch 1.54 released!

please make another patch that fixes more bugs and optimises the game more. And make it use more than 2 gig and work better on win7.
  3. 1) How do you place a working FARP? 2) How do you make the ULB usable with a chopper? thanks

  5. Can you? For a better description, when you do a virtical take off, the rear engine is facing directly downwards to help you lift off. As far as I can tell, the only way to now fly off in to the sunset, is to angle your plane forward like a chopper... and then have it gradually pick up speed until it gets fast enough that the rear engine returns to it's normal position, and then you really start picking up speed. What I always wanted to do though, was to just manually tilt the engine back so I can fly away like a Transformer! I notice that you can trick the plane in to doing this by engaging the landing autopilot. It instantly puts the engine up, and then you can just disengage the autopilot, but that's a bit messy.

Force X35 in to forward flight?

Well the Harrier is multi million too, and nobody actually compared their thrust vectoring.
  7. Hey all got this weird bug. I have OA and it's all fully patched to latest. Everythign works great, multiplayer and single player campaign and editor and everything, but whenever I click on "Scenarios" it crashes to desktop and tells me it stopped working. My specs are: C2D@ 3.6ghz 4gig ddr2 HD 5870 win 7 64bit intel ssd snoopy sticker on case

Force X35 in to forward flight?

Oh well, shame, because it would have been fun. Maybe a modder can do it.

Force X35 in to forward flight?

Maybe, but that's just speculation. I could speculate that they would be trained to use the aircraft to it's full potential. I've seen footage of Apache and FA18 pilots doing very dangerous silly stuff. I wouldn't even be surprised if it was encouraged to some extent.

Force X35 in to forward flight?

Because it's not 'some guy', it's a pilot they train incredibly intensively. They could already destroy the plane any number of ways, but they don't because they are skilled. The Harrier pilots can certainly do it, and it was only through experimentation that they tried thrust vectoring in actual combat to out manoeuvre enemies. They have full manual control over the plane. The F35 may be more modern and computer based but it could well still allow you to do it. It's not even that risky a prospect if you are careful. It's far more dangerous to do low level flying which is what pilots are doing almost constantly these days.

Force X35 in to forward flight?

It's just a bit conservative. You can hover up pretty high, and then you only need to tip forward for a moment to reach say 50 kph, so if you could then just manually tilt the engine up, you might drop a bit, but with the full forward thrust you would have enough speed to get lift within just 2 or 3 seconds. Like I said you can actually do this already by using the autopilot, but it would be nicer if you could do it manually, as I'm sure you could in real life. I doubt you would want to do it from takeoff, unless you liked being a crazy pilot, but sometimes I like to come to a hover from forward flight, and you can end up hovering at like a thousand feet up. So engaging forward thrust at that point would be great. Even if you dived down 200 feet before you could pull up and fly level, you still wouldn't be anywhere near the ground. It would be so much fun to be able to fly it like that.

Ahh so it's not possible? Pity. Maybe they could do it in a patch.

    Someone please make this

Awesome thank you! It's amazing really because I made a little mission myself and I was thinking about how great this game is as a flight game. The original Arma 2 was ok, but now with these new areas, there are some really nice mountain ranges with valleys, just made to fly down at low level :) It's really nice. So yeah this game could make a great chopper game and now with the Apache it's got the perfect chopper for it too imo. Now it's down to us to make the missions.
  14. There is a mission in the single player campaign of OA where it's all in the Apache. You have to take out a little base, then an armed convoy, and then you have to use the ULB little bird to sneak in to the mountains and select targets for the chopper to then destroy. It was awesome, but unfortunately it didn't work very well because it wouldn't let me re-arm at the FARP. Anyway, I wish there was more of this! Could someone please make a bunch of missions that are all done in the chopper? This game is good enough to work as a flight sim I think, so I hope someone can do this. There needs to be a FARP to come back to and re-arm, and there needs to be the ULB which is really fun to use. I would make it myself but I don't know how to make FARPs work, or the ULB, and I also would rather not play missions I made myself because I already know where everything is and there are no surprises.
  15. This doesn't work for me. I have the latest patch. In my squad there is only one Bradley. None of my units have been destroyed or anything, it's just that I only have a Tusk, a Bradley, and a Linebacker. If I run around to the back of the Bradley, the only option is to climb inside. If I go to the back at the side, I get the rearm icon, but I can't get the UAV icon to appear no matter what.

    DLC- What do YOU want?

I want a good single player campaign for a change! The original was very poor. Buggy, no tanks, no choppers, no jets, limited weaponry, and totally spoiled by missions like Manhattan which although fantastic in concept, just didn't work properly. In OA, the campaign was a bit better but it's too short. I want to see BI put together a proper campaign with great scripted events and all the great stuff they have made for the game so far, with tight well made missions, and some grand scale missions like Manhattan but which actually work properly. With missions designed to be fun in a gunship, fun for a figher plane, and some great on foot missions. Ones where you have to escape an enemy compound, using silence and sneakiness to get away, and then you get chased and you have to run in to the hills and forests to evade them. Missions where you have to take out tanks with the anti tank weapons and call in air strikes and artillery. And have it end with a mission where you have to capture a well defended city, in a series of stages. So the player has to use fast jets to take out their air defences. Then you go in with a bomber to take out some ground defences and armor, and then a chopper to take out the remaining hard targets. Then you go in to the city with a squad on foot to finish off the remaining enemies.
