  1. In the past I have had no problems playing Arma 2 and Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead on my PC. I haven't played it in a while but recently decided to start playing it again, I have it through Steam. There was a Steam update for Arma 2: OA when I decided to play it about 4 days ago. But suddenly and mysteriously, when I launch the game now, it freezes my PC. Not a CTD or BSOD or anything of that nature.. it simply will Freeze my PC to where I can't do anything except hold down the power button and force a reboot. I have not ever seen this behavior on either this PC or my last, the only time I have seen this behavior is on a Mac, they are known to Freeze when something goes wrong. So there is probably something to the OP's post. I have updated Drivers, disabled Firewalls etc etc, done my own troubleshooting, and like the OP says, nothing seems to be resolving the problem. Here are my specs: Windows 7x 64 Home Premium I7 930 3.2ghz 6 GB DDR3 Nvidia GTS 250 1gb 1 TB WD 7500 rpm HD EDIT: I thought I would mention that the game doesn't freeze on launch, it will let me select a server and join a game, and then within 5-30 seconds it will freeze. Sometimes I get a lot of audio feedback through my speakers before it happens and then bam, suddenly I cant do anything, with the game picture stuck on my monitor screen. If anyone has a solution it would be highly appreciated!

    Arma2 using only 2gb ram?

I'm an avid PC gamer and I have to let you know, that everything is ok, and that you are using an outdated, obsolete OS. I used Windows XP 32 bit for a long long time. Then I decided to update to Vista 32 bit. It was a nightmare, so I switched back to XP 32 bit. One day I was playing a game maybe a year later, and people told me that they had fixed Vista for the most part. So I said what the heck and re installed, and sure enough, I had none of the problems I was experiencing before. Shortly after that I upgraded to a dual core 64 bit processors, so I ordered the Vista 64 bit upgrade CD. It was amazing, the system speed was at least twice as fast. I did not know why I was using a 32 bit OS for so long. So I used that until Windows 7 came out. Even then I waited maybe 3 months and didn't give it any mind. But once again, a lot of friends were talking about how great Windows 7 was, so I went out and bout Windows 7 64 bit. My friends, you have no fears. This is THE BEST OS that Windows has ever produced. I have no glitches, and it runs flawlessley. It has a lot of options that no other windows OS has had, that you will love. So basically I am just writing this to let anyone who is sitting on the fence about Windows 7 because of the Vista launch debacle, you have no fears.
  3. For New Players see my Thread here if you are having trouble with Multiplayer: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=97186
  4. Well I know a put a couple posts up about having Multiplayer Connectivity issues. It was mostly due to me being unfamiliar with the game and mods and what needed to be done. It was also due to most servers running the ACE mod, and no clear information on how to do it. So I figured I will make this post to explain to new users on what needs to be done. (This information should really be put somewhere major on the Arma2 website as well) Ok, when you first download Arma2 you will try and play matches on servers, but you will get Session Lost or "You were kicked off the game" messages. This is because you are running Vanilla Arma2 and nowdays it seems almost every server is running the ACE mod. What you have to do, is download a program called Six Arma Updater. Then download the ACE mod pack, all three of them. Drag the ACE mod files into the Six Arma Updater GUI file on your desktop, it will eventually open a Six Arma Web Browser window after what looks like a Command Prompt window runs for a little bit. Select the ACE mod, and Vanilla and hit Execute. It will now begin a lengthy download and update process. When that process is complete, you have to Right Click on your Arma2 Quick Launch Icon and select Properties. Where it says Target, you have to paste this over what is there: "C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2\arma2.exe" -mod=@CBA;@ACE;@ACEX;@ACEX_SM That will make it so it loads the ACE mod every time you launch the game using that shortcut. After that you are free to play Arma2 multiplayer on any servers running ACE, which most are. It is a lot to do to play Multiplayer, but it is worth it. I have been playing a few rounds tonight on the U.S Socom server, and on their TeamSpeak and it is a load of fun. I really appreciate the massive scope of this game and the realism of it. I am an ex marine corps infantryman myself, and I have already become addicted. I have to give a thanks to all of the people who develop and mod this game. Anyway see you guys out there!

You can't Play this game Multiplayer.

My game is patched, and it isn't my ping. I managed to join someones game earlier which was quite obviously a mod, some cops and robbers mod. It let me download the scenario like it should. In any case getting kicked off the game due to the mysterious "Modified file CA" happens with any server for the most part. When I installed the game I got a lot of errors at the end because it kept trying to install STEAM crap, so I just hit ignore to each one. And while the single player aspect on this game may be amazing.....no I do not buy games, especially war scenario games, to play single player. If anyone wants this game to actually thrive with a lot of packed servers, then a lot has to be done to make it easier to play this game multiplayer. You can't just advertise this game as being a multiplayer war sim and then expect people who buy it to go sorting through the internet and troubleshooting road blocks and doing all kinds of complex stuff just to play a match.

Why is this game not more popular?

Because you can't play it multiplayer.
  7. Well I see some posts on these forums and other forums wondering "Why doesn't anyone play Arma2??" Well after 2 days from having purchased this game, I can tell you why. This has proven to be the biggest pain in the ass of a game to try and play multiplayer, that at this point, I would say that there IS no multiplayer. The server menu is packed full of servers that are empty, and when you try and join the ones that do have some players, you will end up with a message that you are "Using Modified File CA" After which you will get a message "Session Lost" Or "You were kicked off the game." One person mentioned it might be that they are running the ACE Mod. So I went out and downloaded the ACE Mod, and Six Arma Updater, and went through the very non user friendly attempt of updating and installing this Mod. It did nothing to solve the problem of being kicked any time I join a server, or getting a session lost message. So if any of you are wondering why this game isn't being played much, I think maybe you should start looking into those reasons and fix them before advertising that more people should join. The way it stands now I'm about to call this game a waste of 53 dollars.
  8. Well title says it all. I just bought and finally downloaded Arma2, got it patched to 1.05 from the website. Any time I try and connect to a server, I get a "Session Lost" or a "You were kicked off the game" message. I have ensured that the game is added to my firewall exception list, and no I do not use a router. Anyone know of any solutions to this problem? Using Windows 7 Ultimatex64 ---------- Post added at 03:41 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:18 AM ---------- I've noticed it says I am using a modified file CA. Maybe that is the reason I am getting kicked? When I tried patching 1.05 I got some errors at the end which I chose Ignore to, it was all things related to Steam. I purchased my game from Direct2Drive. Anyone know of any solutions to this problem? I've searched google and seen that other people do have the same issues, but the discussions are short with no solution.
