Has anyone ever had any challenge from the enemy carrier?
sav112g replied to flyinj's topic in CARRIER COMMAND: GAEA MISSION - GENERAL
Not played this in any form but owned the original way back. Its going to be a huge let down in my view and a missed opportunity if Carrier battles are limited. The original disappointed a bit in that you knew the carrier cheated but hay it was about more the fact of the control you had back then. Easily pleased back then that we could fly around our own ship while it moved and watch a Walrus also. The warp back then was a necessity due to the limitations of what you could actually do. But today I’d want to be surprised, out foxed on a level playing ground. If players feel cheated then they loose interest and the magic of what could have been will have been lost. Look at DayZ it’s such a hit as its refreshing that a game lets you make your own fun, every time you log in its different. Surly after so many years of development an Ai should stand up on its own and be counted and give you something different of a challenge. This is why I thought they would go with the original game mode and make random islands give you a fresh challenge time after time. I always think I want to win yes but I want to win by the skin of my teeth as the saying goes. Taking an absolute pounding in the process from an Ai to respect makes the game for me. I so wanted this game to be a hit and hope it still can be but its not good reading so far I can tell you.:( -
AI Pathfinding Suggestions to help the Devs fix the problems (Constructive please)
sav112g replied to Suranis's topic in CARRIER COMMAND: GAEA MISSION - GENERAL
Always had an interest in this from way back. Surly this was covered from early games I cant remember my Command and conquer path finding being poor and they had to work out the best way. I understand it’s a very rich world they have created but it cant be too much to ask for a semi intelligent Ai. There should have been a basic learning algorithm put to work on every island or just on the map to continually run vehicles around and learn what works or what does not. Universities have been advancing Ai for years I just wish the Gaming industry sponsored or invested in some of there know how. In saying that some games delight you in the fact your actually taken aback about how good enemy Ai players are. I wish them every success in this but I’d say some of the RTS games must make huge calculations to imitate Ai when units clash on a massive scale. Half the fun in such games is just watching the Ai cope and play. I’d have thought in this day and age with the PC power we now have Ai should be a given. This so far reads as the Ai is dumb with enemy carriers not fighting or surprising ( and thats the beauty of Ai is should surprise you) Vehicles getting lost or stuck on lets face it uncomplicated maps. -
I am sorry, but after only four hours.. I'm removing the game
sav112g replied to JanJoh74's topic in CARRIER COMMAND: GAEA MISSION - GENERAL
Quite right Jan, not played this version but loved the original and this looks to be a massive let down. We are compairing it to the original for a very good reason that it was intended to be based on the classic – or did I miss something? We were expecting too much – What???? Having watched so many clips it seriously looks like a dated game that is four or five years old. Possibly in 2005 this would have been acceptable but this is 2012 and we seem to still have a clunky, arcade looking game. Take a look at Planet side 2 for example ARMA III for sheer scale and units playing. Don’t get me started on no Multiplayer – It’s the one thing we all wanted way back in the 80’s but could not have but to not have MP now is suicidal and just plain arrogant that the developers seem to think they know what’s best when clearly they were either too short sighted or just lazy to add it or worse not up to the task and unable to work out how MP would play on this. It’s been years in development and my face lit up when I first read that CC was being brought back to life. The original gave us so much with control over multiple vehicles at once. Who did not fly round the carrier when it was moving just for the hell of it. I think way back we filled in the blanks with our imagination and yes we may have rose coloured specs on when we fondly think back but you have to create a world a player want to inhabit and not annoy the hell out of him. Things have moved on so much and any developers trying to defend lack of options and scale with we tried to encapsulate the original in doing less are just idiots. Not that I’m saying the staff have said this. But its lacking and that plain to see in this quad core age, I remember my first PC had 2mb of ram to that of 8-16GB these days. God knows what my Amega had that I played the original on. Time to face facts, released with more bugs than a Midge filled Glen Coe in summer! They should be ashamed of this lack of effort. PS tell me can you just sail the ship from island to island real time for the fun of it? What is it with developers that cant understand players don’t want action , action , action. Some times its nice to just be doing stuff out with fighting but on edge a fight could happen any time. DayZ has finally worked out give the players a world and platform and let them make there own fun, some times its nice just to admire your ship sailing through fog or a storm. Anyone who played Silent hunter will know what im saying when it was great just to experience a good storm out with the actual trying to locate and sink ships all the time. Rant over. -
Got to emit I never got the idea behind the FPS especially when everyone can see it looks like a poor five year old bargain basement FPS you pick up for £2. Time would have been better spent on other endeavours within the main game. At least its only in a campaign mode that will be entertained once then forgot about. The real meat to this game was forgotten about :(and I mean who ever made the no multiplayer or signed off that it would come much later proved idiotic in my view) What we all dreamed of after we had won over the enemy carrier was to play other humans. But back then we could not imagine how MP would rule the gaming world and become so central to basic inclusion in today’s games.

I was looking forward to this when I got my new machine next year but this sounds dated already and poor. :( Made the mistake of getting into PS2 and watching how it was developing and it looks a fantastic open world multi-unit game on a massive epic scale, to me this looks quite tame and boring now and I was a huge fan of the original that I played way back.:( Back then having vehicles you could control around each other was something special and made the game so fantastic:cool: but things moved on light years and this game looks to be clinging on to more of just the idea of the classic but has hindered it.:butbut: The original did four units for each class why with quad core PC is this still the same. We should be seeing 40 units and being able to pick what one if any we want to pilot or drive. In the end it could be a wrong impression but to me it lacks what was needed and that was to not only improve on the original but bring it into the modern age. Sadly four manta's versus I guess only ever four others kind of tells a rather sad tale.:o

OK, Theory time! Why the original Carrier Command worked, and why a remake might not

I often think if they made "Elite" for the BBC model B again would I love it the same with all the bells and whistles they could add to it. I still cant believe no one has done a permanent live universe for elite. Give it an edge like one life and you have to start over! you don't save games or rounds you simple have to dock to get back to real life out with the game. You could even have employment n the game as they had bounty hunters, police or just simple traders making there way in the universe created. Space stations could even be sponsored by real firms and products with offers on. ;) Getting back on topic i just hope its half as much fun to play as my original was but I'm not going to be amazed that I can fly over my own ship while controlling it as that's just the norm these days. -

The problem with Multi Player...
sav112g replied to TaktiX's topic in CARRIER COMMAND: GAEA MISSION - GENERAL
Once played a saved game in football Manager every week for four or five hours with over ten friends and at some points it was into the teens. Yes totally different game but we started in the football season 2003-4 and played every match managing our teams at the same time till I think it was 2022. it’s not a quick game with periods of just working away and waiting as it moves in game day by day….but very enjoyable it was. You can make it work if you get the right players and set up. Four ships with a 2v2 would work, you just have to make sure the game is saved by a host to carry on when everyone wants to. -

Now that's more like it...Cheers.:D does the ship still have drones?????and what fo they now do? It did look like the other ship could still pund away when damaged heavily. I hope the enemy ships systems going down could have both ships sitting there in a mess but still alive but fighting to repair... I still think struggling to save your ship should be a huge part of this and if done well would just add to the game play. after all who wants to lose a ship you have got back after a real fight to repair it...Although I do appreciate the player did just charge in and stop so took a lot of early damage. But it would be good to have the ship list and have water pumps fighting all the way. Also it would be good even if you blew the enemy ship out the water that the game did not end for a set period so you had still to work for your win to save the ship.. I hope they drop the death message:( that just pops up with just a fly by of your ship sinking and blowing up. sorry just saying your dead is so boring after a fight lets see a wee while longer just to admire the sinking and the damage done to the other ship.....SHIII did the same. Bang " Your Dead" right some else post there default CV Attack........;) -

Well then find it on standard and do a clip ;) Cheers for the info so the AI has the usual game settings Incredibly Dumb (if actually any intelligence is present at all) Good Human Match ( oh yeah I’ve got a fight on here) Just Plain Unreasonable (What, Your kidding me!) -

Not at all I enjoyed your clip, you gave us a general idea how the game plays. Although I did think the transport supply ship/drone was very quick to resupply and I think it will be a better single player game if things like this were slowed down but then again you had just started out on the Map. I don’t know if this is the case but it would be so much more interesting if you could design the islands defences as opposed to an auto set up that just duplicates over and over. Be good if you could place AA and Anti tank on the map sort of style. I take it we had some sort of radar too that could be added to the islands. I'm right in that the airfield on the island was on the original? Everything that can be customised that can be added to make every island more individual the better. Especial when if it does come to MP. Be nice to know a players trade mark positioning of defensive weapons. So far the island looks very small and you just get on with fighting over it rather than probing for a weakness. Lets face it the Ai will get a bit stale in this I think if its just repetitive building that generally plays out the same island over island but that could be unfair saying that never played the newer version. Maybe there should be an option for a forward command post to be placed on one island that takes more resources and time to build but has far more defensive and offensive characteristics that will throw up the odd surprise and tactic to crack it. PS I take it the enemy carrier AI is not up to much on the Beta??? It sat there taking hit after hit. I love to be able to program the Ai response in this game. I hope they don’t hold back and as long as the AI does not cheat then bring it on with it being mega offensive and hard to beat!!!! -

Averon01 did the clip and thread! Not my thread or clip, but it is a great long clip of game play right enough. I thought if a mod was going to go to the trouble of closing said thread then could they not have shifted the original posters clip and add it here. It’s a bit like telling someone “ your going the wrong way†and then walking off. When if your going to go to the trouble of telling someone there going the wrong way why not put in the extra effort and tell them the right way and actually be of use. The clip was wrongly added when a thread dealing with clips was up and running lucky the activity and posts on here are nominal or the thread would have been long lost…the guy posting the thread and clip deserves it to be moved on merit of the clip and effort to show the game. I learned more about the game in that 27 min clip than anything else ive seen up to now. -

ProfTournesol I see you closed a thread with a new clip and yes your right there is a thread and we only need one rightly:)...its a good clip how about doing a bit more house work and moving said clip into the other thread????? Just a thought Cheers. PS your PM space has no space left so no one can send you a PM.... ---------- Post added at 06:12 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:34 PM ---------- Watched the guy with the 27 min game play in fairness I don’t think he played the original that kind of educated you in multitasking both in units and ship. Anyway great clip even if the game play was not up to much. I was alarmed to see you can not lunch Manta’s while the ship was moving ??? I’m sure in the original I used to move the ship and have both Manta’s and walruses either struggle to catch me up or catch up when I slowed the ship to Dock. I’m also sure I could lunch a manta while on the move????? -

Cheers for the Vid's well done getting them out! Thank god at the end of the last clip I thought you could not sail the ship but only put it on that Anchor on the map…. What you really want to see is storms and having to sail through them and still fight taking the risk of sending units out in such Weather. Plus I hope the AI is not scripted to death that its boring and easy to predict. I'd love surprise air attacks out of no where. But in all it looks good, the less you have to follow a story line the better. would be epic if it had loads of Experience rewards and 4 player 4 ship MP 2V2 ;) Quick someone find the enemy Ship and take it on and show us Damage control ;) -
Good luck lads only wished i had a system able to run games these days. still running a late 2004 rig... Have fun and take a few video clips.
