For Mission Authors: Allow Team Leader to Declare Mission Complete
SimonF posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Hi Folks, After playing through all the OA missions, and having spent too much time playing Domination, I've recognised an important element missing from most missions: the option of allowing the "ranking officer" of the mission the option to declare the mission complete. Most missions seem to follow the typical "game" scenario of having an objective, and automatically ending when the objective has been completed, or if it is no longer possible to complete the objective. Apart from being somewhat contrived, this leads to endless amounts of time wasted looking for that one last soldier hiding in a corner aiming his gun at a brick wall, when clearly you have actually succeeded in taking the objective and that last soldier would IRL surrender or go start E&E as soon as he realises his position is untenable. I believe it would be more realistic and less frustrating if the player(s) had the option of radioing HQ to declare the objective secure. Game logic could then determine whether any remaining OPFOR are of sufficient strength to result in mission failure, or if they simply surrender or flee. It would make sense for HQ to respond with an order to RTB, and then if further resistance is detected to simply re-activate the original objective with some sort of reprimand for not getting the job done properly the first time! There's my $0.02 worth anyway.... -
I've noticed some strange behaviour of friendly AI while playing "My Scenarios". Summary: Arrowhead Beta, no mods Takistan Combat Mode Scenario Regular Difficulty The two problematic behaviours are: 1. AI get stuck, even in open desert 2. AI carrying G36 use a pistol instead to fire on enemy 300m distant. These issues are occurring early in the mission, so they should have plenty of ammunition. I tend to change formation frequently, and also combat mode. I would understand if they were using pistols with silencers because they were in "stealth" mode, but these events have occurred in "Aware" or "Danger" mode, usually after contact with enemy. The only fix to problem 1 that I've found is to teamswitch to that unit and cycle through various postures until I can move out of it. I haven't found a fix to the pistol problem yet. Anyone have some ideas? PS: sorry if this thread is repeated elsewhere, I couldn't find anything relevant in the search. Cheers.

Hi Folks, I hope someone out there can shed some light on this problem. (I also have an issue registered for this, but they suggested I post here as well). Since my previous post to this forum, I've replaced my brand new GTS 250 card and found ARMA 2 much more stable. Previously it even crashed at the startup menu, especially when adjusting video settings. So problem 1 has been solved - faulty hardware. I also gained some more stability after updating the Realtek NIC drivers (as recommended in NVIDIA forums). Now I'm able to play - and sometimes for over an hour at a stretch without a crash, however then the screen freezes, sometimes it goes blank or gets distorted by a colour pattern, the audio stutters, and then I either get BSOD or I hit the reset button. It very rarely (once ever few days / hundred crashes) produces ARMA 2 dump files. I've run Memtest and Prime tests overnight (different nights) without errors, and my PC is not overclocked. I've tried everything from the lowest possible graphics settings (although 1024 x 768 display), to re-seating RAM and graphics cards. Troubleshooting steps so far: Re-install Nvidia drivers (uninstall, reboot, reinstall) Rollback Nvidia drivers (uninstall, reboot, reinstall) Change in-game video options to "normal" Disable Antialiasing Disable Post Processing Run Game Booster (disables unncessary processes during game play) Force GPU fan to 100% all the time (seems to stay at 50deg C) Check CPU temp immediately after crash: <45deg C. Run 3DMarkVantage - a little choppy but came in on the average line. Disabled PhysX in NVidia control panel Game Version: 1.05.62017 System Summary: Intel E8400 @ 3GHz 4GB RAM 600W PSU Gigabyte GA-G31M-S2L Mobo Brand new NVIDIA GTS 250 1GB (using splitter/adaptor cable to connect to 2 power leads to the 6 pin socket on the card.) New User - Game Crashes to Desktop or BSOD every few minutes. Vista 32, GTS 250
SimonF replied to SimonF's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Over at NVIDIA forums I found this article: http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=154614 It refers to an issue with Realtek NIC drivers causing BSOD with NVIDIA cards. The NIC drivers have caused problems in the past - but only for the NIC. Since upgrading to Realtek driver 6235_03102010, I can actually get through the Boot Camp module with the lowest possible graphics options. I made it through armour training and then CTD with a red scrambled screen, then got into the air with a helicopter (Transport) and the game just froze (no response to keyboard (even capslock) or mouse for several minutes, so I cold booted again to recover. In every instance the appdata\arma 2\ directory does not contain dumps. Any suggestions??? BTW: Imperator Pete, do you also have the GTS 250? Simon -
Hi Folks, Please let me know if I should post this to the bug tracker instead. I've just bought ARMA II and am having enormous difficulties getting it to play. I've finally managed to get through the basic training to MOUT with a few crashes along the way, but now it is unplayable. I think it has something to do with my graphics card setup, so I hope someone with similar gear can advise. If I get a CTD instead of BSOD, a warning pops up to say that the graphics driver was reset. I have just started MOUT training, approached the village on foot, and once I start to make contact with enemy the game crashes. Symptoms: Display and audio freeze and screen either goes blank then CTD, BSOD, or remains blank and audio comes back after a couple of minutes. Sometimes when it crashes, the display gets totally scrambled and split diagonally in two, with wavy blue patterns in the top right half and a mix of horizontal and vertical lines in the bottom left. Troubleshooting steps so far: Re-install Nvidia drivers (uninstall, reboot, reinstall) Rollback Nvidia drivers (uninstall, reboot, reinstall) Change in-game video options to "normal" Disable Antialiasing Disable Post Processing Run Game Booster (disables unncessary processes during game play) Force GPU fan to 100% all the time Check CPU temp immediately after crash: <45deg C. Any help would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks! Simon
