Royal navy buys Hornets not JSF...

You prepare for the enemy of tomorrow, not today. I sure would feel much safer flying into the target with Raptors in my package then ANY other A/C flying today. PS: Coming home with everybody alive is also a bonus. S41

    Air to Air Weapons Class

Dating all the way back to the SLUF days('70), winders were experimented as a alternative A/G munition. Don't know much of the details or outcomes of the tests, but I'd place my bets on a 'not suitable for the role'... S41

    Su-25 radar bug, armor fix

The "T-50" isn't even close to being fielded, once in the production curcuit, it's not as though thats a 'done deal, lets move on to the next one'. The SU-35 still works off of older combat/flight principles - no doubt a great aircraft - but lets be realistic about this. How many do you think will be produced? Not alot.. Of those, how many operational within squadrons? Im sure a 3rd would be designated... What about sortie rate? Or best of all using a "older generation" avionic suite, to compete with newer, fielded, western jets. It is in no way produced to combat the F-35, or the Raptor for that matter. I know I wouldn't. S41

You have NOT provided backing to your claim. Backing your claim would be listing sources to state your point. I find it very hard to believe your credentials, especially after this rant of showing up to ECM demostrations as a 'armour guy'. What my job is, is not what should concern you, or any member of this forum. Although, from my profession; these posts on aircraft always make me wonder. I'll leave it up to you to ponder where I stand (or ride). Waffen, Russia has no cash to fund production fighters that compete with the West. Fact of the matter is, they can't even develop and produce ASEA for their jets, when America has been Flying Vipers 'with it' for the last 4 years. Nevermind a full production C7n'ed Raptor. I'd be suprised if each of their pilots is hitting anywhere close to 100 Hours yearly. You think some dream plane is going to compete with it - 'like a tech demo' - 'or propaganda machine'? http://www.airforce-technology.com/projects/s37/ The US runs technology demostrations more frequently then any other country on the planet. http://www.f-16.net/f-16_versions_article19.html Those are just a few converted Vipers... let alone the many other a/c and experiments. Quite a mouthfull huh? It's hard having to respond to a wall of misinformative info, about something a person has no knowledge or 'credentials' to apply with. S41

    Su-25 radar bug, armor fix

As a CF member who HAS NOTHING to do with aircraft, has used a Wiki, or unreferenced source for information that you know NOTHING about, where do you get off saying you have backed up your claims? Then you call, "close topic" because I don't agree with you? When you make a claim that a Frogfoot can take SAM launches like there nothing and differ ANY IR or Radar guided threat, back it up. All you have done is paste a Block upgrade to a thin and far between number of SU-25's. The last 3 pages have shown completely uninformed information from someone who is obviously not involved in the a/c department. It's like me telling the Germans how to make their BMW's with "so much of my experience". When you turn on any source of Radar or counter measure on, it can influence the chance of being "picked up" dramatically. Whatever you send out can be used against you. Why do you think the Iraqi's and Serbs flickered their SA-2's throughout the campaigns? Do you think they had to much brewski's, or is it because they were scared shitless of the Wild Weasel? It's ignorant of you to think the Russians can simply "do what they want", everything costs money, and everything is a business. Even the great pornographer Kim Jong Ill from North Korea can't get away with everything. He buys, or exchanges in favours for everything he needs. Russia is no exception to the rest of the world - the T50 is costing them some coin, even during testing. You can list all the Russian triumph's you feel is necessary, it doesn't change the fact of budget restraints, and a whole lot of aging aircraft with underdeveloped capability. Ask a Russian maintainer how much time they spend on their jets for each hour of flight, and every 90 hours of flight time. S41

    AA missles undetectable?

Ex. EODAS, and new systems from Lockmart that are currently integrated on 5th Gen fighters, by presentation pick up exactly what you said. Other designs include taking up a hardpoint, or paying the bills to place the system within the airframe. None of which are spread around the AF. "Picking up the plume"(Which btw, depends entirely on the MANPAD), needs to be visually identified; either by system or eyeball.. one of which is operating on mass scale today. S41

Regardless of Glitch or not, Waffen pointed out that the RWR can infact pick up a IR launch as factual - and that Jets are like video games, where they are created with Hitpoints. If your making claims, back them up! @Beagle 'Flight Simulator', I know is used for civilian pilot training for any single/multi engine prop where I live; you need to hit a certain amount of hours on it. However, military jets are usually no factor within public "simulatations"; that DCS A-10 does look good though. S41

    AA missles undetectable?

Your right, the Hog nor the SU-25 uses 80's technology - MANPADS and SAMs don't either. It's alot cheaper to create a more powerful mobile aircraft killer then it is to compact radars and electronics into a airframe. The US had systems with the same effect on their Vipers in Desert Storm, and Decoys were also used off of Rhino's in the early stages of the war. Our older jets (Both Bug and Viper) could detect and place where threats are located, and produce a "threat circle" on the MFD to avoid them. Russia, as of your post seems to only be touching this area in 2010/11. Day and Night capability! We had that in the Gulf war! @DM Yes it matters very much which seeker is fired at your jet. With new 5th Generation a/c like the F-35, DAS will be able to detect all incoming friendlies or threats. However, active seekers kick in when they obviously become active themselves and require ZERO guidance from the host - If I were to launch a slammer on your MIG29, you would have around 7 seconds to respond to that, AFTER my missile goes active. Technology can only go as far as it's implementation. S41

I understand FULLY what it reads. My JOB is in direct relation to Bugs. It is you who needs to understand it before copying and pasting it and preaching you know what your talking about. Before you post on the internet, due realise that there are active/former/upcoming Military members, who in some cases hold a much higher standing of knowledge then you. Due to OPSEC, a "how to jam" is obviously not going to be discussed. What I can tell you, the US and it's tighter tier allies are far beyond any other nations equipment, tactics, and implementation, in both numbers and quality. Not to say underestimate your enemy, but America is the only country that spends over 300Billion alone on white projects. Don't you think jamming IR missiles has been thought of before? What are you going to do, run a active beacon on your a/c for other aircraft or SAM's to pick up? It's not as simple as souping up a honda civic. I'd place my bets on a HOJ shot. Please provide backing to all your claims, including references, and factual accounts - as half of what you listed are either unrelated to anything about the topic, or have been made up to precieve as factual. F & C already take up space, adding in another component is highly unlikely to a existing airframe - especially for MANPADS, which are a very short and mobile threat. Not touching this area. @Beagle Unfortunately Waffens right on something... Lockon is just a game, with little to do with the real deal.. although we slap Simulation on it, it's also a selling point to alot of enthusiasts who have minimal knowledge or experience in the field. For example, the propaganda that infuences are friend Waffen on the Super Frogfoot. S41 ---------- Post added at 09:28 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:05 PM ---------- Your right, there are systems that are being produced to counter IR threats, however they are not implemented, or on short supply due to the weight, cost, and space in upgrading or utilising existing airframe hardpoints. The Russians can barely afford to keep there airframes running let alone create and develop against countries with a MUCH bigger budget then them. To be honest, they don't even have a operational ASEA set on any of their ACFT. How do you figure they can even compete with newer designs. Of course you want to close this thread as you do not have any sources to back your claims - it's almost a joke responding in this thread with claims of SU-47 Production to several countries.. S41

    Su-25 radar bug, armor fix

Obviously a/c is not your strong suite. Certain missiles do not pop up on your raw because of there targeting criteria - many aircraft have been lost to IR seekers.. seeing as how deadly they are. Pods have been produced(TADIRCM) to combat the detection from the IR SAM, it still takes up a pylon. ArmA2 does not have any external mission combat systems to add to the jet as it's a very simple flight model. Planes are meant to fly and avoid SAMS and AAA, no matter what armour protection a acft has, it will not take a missile with open arms. Usually getting hit means you have a long walk home. This applies to any "flying tank"... Regardless of it's service life - a SAM doesn't descriminate. PS: Your excerpt still doesn't provide backing for the Frogfoot to take missiles, or avoid them for that matter - before you copy and paste, know what your talking about - jamming will not influence a IR threat. Nor any other block updates. S41
  11. Star Four One

    AA missles undetectable?

The type of SAM threats you face in ArmA2 are undetectable by RWR because they are IR seeker heads; all aircraft in game are WVR exclusive, and armed with "heaters". 3rd and 4th Gen ACFT cannot detect these without a pod. BIS did something correct here. S41

    Why don't AI use RPG's on Helo's?

Here is a list of Soviet Aircraft losses (Be advised it's a Wiki) - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Soviet_aircraft_losses_in_Afghanistan I have a "info sheet" referencing MI-24 losses to RPG fire.. although, I can't seem to pinpoint any online references nor any amount of number for that matter. Why don't AI use RPG's on Helo's?

It's not as easy you might think, factors come in to play like Rotor Wash, M134s' and... well Dust, and the general difficulties in firing an RPG at a moving object above you. I'm sure the general target was the MH60 body rather then the Rotor, (seeing as it presents a bigger target; atleast thats what I would be aiming for if I had the RPG and high on khaki) - just so happens the grenade lined up into the tail... Twice. S41

    Parental controls

Booze must of worn off, eh? I have absolutely no clue as to what you are getting at. But if your trying to purge me as some sort of 'Anti-Military dude' then you got it all wrong. My post has been completely about the topic, nothing more, nothing less. AND less I remind you, .S41
  16. Star Four One

    Parental controls

First off, smarten up. Second, I do not mind the swearing personally; however if we all thought about ourselves I'm sure we wouldn't get anywhere. And third, don't play the army card (if thats even credible), I bed I can trump that. The argument isn't whether Civilian or members of the forces swear, it's the justification of having it as a option for new and existing users. Like you said, it's a game. I'm sure Devs' are more optimistic then to look at every new feature as "extra work", the more time you put into your creation, the more you get back. Pure simulators, and ArmA2? So whats the big difference? We can talk techy all day, but what it comes down to is people want a Milsim. I'm sure if people got their way here, we would all be playing VBS2. On that note - Swearing is not needed to Simulate bounding overwatch. It's not about the people who didn't buy ArmA2. It's about the future customer, the existing customer, and a better gaming experience. I'm sure with my job I swear much more then the average person. But that isn't the topic here. S41
  17. Star Four One

    Parental controls

This game does not simulate war, It does not simulate emotions, It does not simulate mechanized/air assets or electornic warfare, It does not simulate current modern day operations, What is does simulate, is the movement and fielding of specific assets within a controlled theatre. Why is limiting/removing swearing a bad thing? Last I heard, the military has ZERO cussing within their "training" simulators. I'm all for it, but to increase more sales and provide more options to a game DEVOTED to the word "options"; swearing should be toggable. S41

    Why don't AI use RPG's on Helo's?

I don't know what your talking about, but any weapon they have that can bring down a tactical symbole like a helo - there going to use. RPG's were also the cause of a MH-47 hitting the deck in Afganistan and multiple other incidents. To say this happens only in Somalia, is a great underestimate of knowledge. S41

    Less content/features more polish please

Agree with the polish, however, this game is always a work in progress, thats actually one of the great things about it - it keeps building upon itself. It's hard to really expect a "polished" game considering the size and magnitude of ArmA. Instead of a map you can crawl across, a couple of guns, maybe a vehicle or two - and usually zero AI, we get a dynamic full scale battlefield that shoots for realism. We get Day and night cycles, a world that never ends, a mission editor, lots of weapons, pretty superb AI (comparing to ANY other game on the market)... etc. To nitpick about voice acting (Although it could be much better) and not take in the positives in contrast to other games... is wrong! Personally, I would like to see both fronts conquered at the same time. The whole DLC BIS has introduced is a great idea to continue to make money off quality models - and encourages new mods and missions to expand ArmA's community. So? Does it have to be one or the other? S41
  20. Star Four One

    Please....Stop the intervention

Looking for realism does not mean adjusting "AI skill" difficulty. Realism comes with authenticity and mission focused situations. S41
  21. Star Four One

    Please....Stop the intervention

Although I think this idea would be alot of fun, and definently have a impact on the type of scenarios you can create - were still talking about replacing the entire vanilla ArmA units with 3rd to 4th Generation weapons and unit models. As much fun as I could have with this, I firmly believe in leaving this to DLC or mods. To much rides on Russia and the US to have them removed. Many groups and players enjoy the HUMMWV convoy missions, and the pure "modern combat experience". I know the current ArmA2/OA are much more appealling at the store then going into buy 2 fictional countries waging war with T series tanks, and Fishbeds. S41
  22. Star Four One

    Unknown death.

If you keep getting killed the same way, wouldn't it be smart to do something differently? Don't fly the same profile as before; bound a different direction; drive a different route instead of main street. Don't ask BIS to conform to adding in options to make easier/more laxed gameplay. If both of you are truely looking for 'a text mssg' or other options, ask a forum member to implement it? S41

  24. Thanks Metalcraze and Celery. Sure I can probably go to around 430, would you be able to help me choose the right PC? And, can these come as laptops for the same price range? Thanks again guys S41
