ATTN NOOBIES! - New to ArmA II or OA - Here's the place for your questions
fireballs619 replied to wraith_v's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Okay, I just got ARMA 2 and I have a bunch of questions, but I'll spare you all by simplifying it into two questions: 1: Are there any recommended guides for newbies (a wiki would be okay) 2: Is there an IRC channel for ARMA? -
Will my PC Run this? What CPU/GPU to get? What settings? System Specifications.

I would like to also ask if the actual game performs better than the demo due to lack of bugs and/or other improvements. -

Ok- I haven't posted here in a while, due to real life cutting in, but I did end up getting computer. I did get this with gaming in mind, but not top priority. It was a good deal at the time, so it was a good purchase. Specs: i7-860 @ 2.8 Ghz (Im not going to be able to overclock in the near future:() 1TB HD 8 GB RAM Nvidia Geforce 310 (I know, I know, its pretty crappy.) The actual model is the Studio XPS 8100 if anyone needs to know. I know it can run ARMA (or at least the demo :)) with semi-good quality, but I was wondering how I could maximize this. I am looking to get a better GPU in the near future, but until then, I am fine with what I have. I want to see how ARMA will look with the best settings I can get while still having enjoyable playability. Does anyone have some recommended settings that I should test out? -

Will I be able to run this game enjoyably? -

What's your budget? I could possibly help, unless of course you're happy with those specs. -

It does indeed look like a very good mother board, i must admit. What memory are you using with this; DDR3 2200, 1600 or what -

Does anyone know how the EVGA 121-BL-E756-TR mobo is? I'm thinking of getting it instead of the ASUS P6T. Link http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813188051 -

Thanks on that one, you saved me there. And i forgot to mention i was getting a 650W PSU. Thanks. EDIT: I just checked and it is actually compatible with the 1366 socket, I just had to look under specs. Thanks for looking though. Also after checking I found that my motherboard does not support 6 GB/s on the hard drive, so i switched to a 1TB 32MB 3 GB/s one. I also switche dmy memory to a better deal with the corsair xms3 6GB. The two switches canceled out and i am now only $10 higher than i originally was. -

Okay, I have finally decided on these specs; Intel Core i7-930 2.8GHz 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 Quad Core Geforce GTX 260 896MB ASUS P6T Corsair XMS 6GB (Should i get more?) Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB 7200 RPM COOLER MASTER Storm Scout SGC-2000-KKN1-GP Thermaltake Purepower W0100RU 500W ATX LG WH10LS30K 10X Blu-ray burner ARTIC COOLING Frezzer 7 Pro Total comes out to $1300, which is pretty good. Any other thoughts, although I am happy with these specs, I have never run ARMA, and therefore do not know how it would work. Any idea on the settings I would expect, while keeping a good frame rate? Thanks to all who helped in my search, especially Leon86 -

Ok guys treat me like I know nothing about computers (even though I do [a little bit]). I am looking to build a PC to run Arma 2 for around $1000 (give or take a few $100). The most important thing for me is FPS, which I am looking to get about 25-30. I would like to be able to run it on med settings while maintaining around those frames, but High settings are of course preferred. I am open to any suggestions for specs. I have some ideas in mind, but I just wanted to see what the general opinion is. Thanks
