Why is this game not more popular?

Wow, people still thinking that realism is the problem. That most people dont like the game because its realistic. Then the other group that thinks it needs its own massive advertisement campaign, which makes a little more sense then the realism group. Come on people, its obvious. People get on the game, cant figure out what to do, jump on multiplayer like most people trying to get used to the game. Then they find that they cant join half the servers, no party organizing, dont know that the hell is going on, no chat to help them before they join a server. Before you know it, most people quit before they even play the game. Simple as that... Then, even if they get into a game, there all alone, no friends and they have no choice but to play like a individual rambo man. Reason being, no party organizing system and no multiplayer section chat.

Chat, parties, and addon download list/automatic

Does anybody else think this should be implemented as a patch to arma 2 or should it be implemented in operation arrowhead? I think the patch idea would be better, but it would obviously require more time and be harder to do that way. Putting it in a game already in development is far easier.

That is BS. I'm sorry to say, but those things are not a problem, nor were they ever a problem. Its like a relationship with a tribe. You get sick of the people there, but at the same time you realize, this is the only way I can survive, otherwise I will starve. So you just put up with it. You should just put up with it, because the lack of multiplayer community is causing most to starve. No one is saying you cant have your little groups of team work only players. But when a big server is running, and people want a quick way to jump into the game of arma2 and kill some other human players then thats absolutely fine. BIS should be disturbed that there product is not being sold to full potential because a greedy but dominant group of players is advocating that they be the only ones having fun. That is pretty messed up. But even then, hardcore players like me are figuring out a major problem with this equation. Who the heck am I supposed to play with?!?!!?

Thats exactly the point I am making. I have broken it down a lot for everybody. But I guess I can break down the source of the problem even more. Too many needed things not built into the game... Every person that replies to my ideas goes: "MOD"! "ADDON!" "Do it yourself!" "BIS cant do that!" "I'm a scared of the regular peoples" "Only autistic people should play this game" (the last two are sarcasm)

 You guys are missing the point; this is for the people who do not know where to go or what to do. This is for 80% of the people that tried the game and did not continue it because they simply do not understand this type of game. I completely understand this game, you veterans do to. But does the average joe know he can get yoma? Does he even know where to get it? Thats kind of the point of having this built in to the game. Many games already do this because most people do not wish to put in that effort. Nor is it wrong to have that mindset, as most people are very very busy. And for BIS's knowledge, I already know they can do this, so if you are looking at this please do not say you cant.

These sort of things make my point when it comes to the multiplayer aspect of arma 2. Many people go straight into multiplayer because its the first place they can go and interact with human people. Sadly, the game is too complex to just jump in a server and get a feel for the game. This is why I am going to continue to say that a chat system, party organizing system, and mod list/downloading system is desperately need when entering into the multiplayer section of the game. The chat system will provide you the ability to ask questions and get a feel for the community. Players that have a run and gun mindset may even be persuaded to change there ways to get enjoyment out of the game, and friends will obviously be made in the process. The party organizing system is needed because in order to have fun on most missions, you need other people to do it with. This will allow groups of people to join into servers and easily coordinate before a mission begins or they decide to load in. Clans, tactical gameplay, tournaments, and general team work will arise because of this, and those things certainly need a boost right now. The approved addon list/downloading system is the most important thing needed in the multiplayer section. Like I have said before, half the servers require custom content, and most people will be demotivated by this. Even the option to automaticaly download individual addons at a time would be an extremely helpful thing for the community. Does anybody think I should start my own suggestions thread for this?

Why is this game not more popular?

I'm not sure if people truly understand the reasons for why I say its paramount to provide such an interface in multiplayer. This was some posts back. I even got the annoying, "you can get a mod" response; luckily I didn't get the even more annoying "mod it yourself response". The reasons are simple to understand if you break down the average reasons for multiplayer. People like to interact with other people, through the game. Whats the problem with arma2s multiplayer? Its too minimal. There is no chat in the lobby, no party organizing, and no mod access and listing. This is extremely needed in such a complex game. Half the servers online require some form of mod, so people are automaticaly discouraged here. Sure, they do have the ability to explore the internet on port 80, but do they want to spend time doing that? Or how about the hours required just to join a clan or tournament? There is a reason in simple FPS's for 95% of the players not belonging to a clan of some sort, its usually not because they are not skilled, but because they dont want to spend that much time just to get into one. Many games already allow you to do these things and they are not even as complex as the arma/ofp series. So it should be a very seriouse thing on BIS mind for patches and expansions right now; how can we improve multiplayer accessibility and quality. If they figured this out it would bring a whole fresh new load of people to the milsim community. To say that it would be a bad thing is just nonsense. Most of the people who say these things probably have no care whatsoever about the suffering most multiplayer people are going through with this game. I currently haven't played arma2 in weeks because there is simply nobody on and its too difficult to organize anything with such a archaic multiplayer system. So this is my important message to you BIS. Bring light to the dark and empty multiplayer world of arma2, and you will be rewarded with many fresh players.

Multiplayer desperately needs to be fixed. The interface is bland, old, and barely functional in terms of allowing users to connect to multiplayer servers. The lobby needs to show how many people are online, list downloadable mods approved by BIS, allow you to download them, and have the ability to organize players into dynamic mini clans. Basicaly groups of players who can communicate and organize with eachother without even joining a server. A chat lobby possible? Everybody understands why these functions are important in a game like arma 2, right? Infact, these features alone would probably bring life to the multiplayer pool. The lack of these features probably is the main reason why nobody graduates from single player, and its also a big reason for people simply not playing the game anymore. ?
